I don't think I missed this one, but I'm curious as to where everyone is- I know many of you are in various parts of Europe... but in the US, what's your state? Just curious...

me- New Yorker/ Long Islander transplanted to FL

Florida - Specifically North Western Florida.

Roots - Started out in Idaho (hence my nick), went to Arizona, then to Korea, and then to *shudders* Utah. After that I went to Turkey, and then to Georgia (loved Georgia!) Then back to Idaho, and onto Germany, and finally here in Florida.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They say we're clean, allz I know is that when Hollywood comes and shoots here, they add prop garbage to resemble a normal city.

Texas, the exact opposite of Ontario, we have to clean up to look believable.

I live five hours away from Toronto, going in the northern direction.
It is a small enough town, where you can't go anywhere without running into someone you know, but big enough to not know everyone's business.

I, too, live in Virginia, though a lot closer to DC (~30 minutes or so).

I've lived/visited tons of places, though, being a military brat AND loving to travel. And as soon as I can, I want to move and live near the ocean...I miss the beach!

In Scania, the southernmost province of Sweden, and this is also the range where I was born. It's an hour's ride from Copenhagen by the sea bridge that came around in 2000 after an extremely long period of projects and gestation: I can see the bridge and its high pylons from my living-room windows.

Gisborne (pronounced /ˈgɪzban/) is a town located approximately 55 kilometres north of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. As it is close to Melbourne, but in attractive countryside, it is proving an increasingly popular place to settle. The town is named after Henry Fyshe Gisborne. Gisborne is part of the Shire of Macedon Ranges.

I live in northern California. Now most people including the weather stations think San Francisco is in northern California as opposed to Los Angeles which is in southern California. However, if you look at a map of California you will see that San Francisco is really only about the middle of California. I live about 100 miles south of the Oregon boarder in Arcata. We are known for the potency of our pot (not one of my vices) and our redwood trees. The surfing is excellent here too, but you have to wear a wet suit. Ozme is probably one of the few who will know where this is.

I grew up in the San Francisco bay area, but was born in Canada. However I have had relatives in North America since the 1600s. WARNING GENEALOGY BUFF SPOUTING OFF!!! My mothers maiden name was Van Meter. So my 8X great-grandfather, Jan Joosten, was probably from the town of Meteren in the Netherlands. He arrived in New Amsterdam (currently known as New York City) in 1662. My 6X great-grandfather settled in Old Fields, West Virginia and everyone since then up to and including my grandfather was born there. My great-grandfather took most of his family and homesteaded in Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Canada. Be thankful that my father was adopted so I can’t bore you with 10 generations of information about his family.

I live in the second biggest city in the UK. The one which is half the size but 4 times as disorganised and badly run as London... Any other West Midlanders want to say hi, feel free to do so!

Wow this was started exactly a year ago *giggles*

My city is Calgary also known as "Cowtown" - Home of the Biggest Outdoor Show on Earth - The Calgary Stampede - the city goes all out for two weeks wearing all the cowboy gear one can possibly find. Companies all over put on free pancake breakfasts or BBQ lunches, some include fair rides and such for the kids. The Rodeo itself is quite a show and last year a friend bought me tickets for my birthday to go see it for the first time, it was a blast - Gotta love those sexxxy cowboys riding Bronc's hehehe

It offers more than the rodeo with a huge carnival, concerts and fireworks nightly as well.

If you're ever around here in the beginning of July, it's worth a trip :)

Chuckle... Old Fields... I know the place. North and east of where I grew up (but a mountain person would think of it as pretty much purely north, cause that's how the mountain ridges line up).

When your people were in New Amsterdam, mine (one branch) were due east of Old Fields (and a hair south) on the Virginia peninsula between the Rappahannock and Potowmack (Potomac, today) rivers.

Started in WV, southern part. Left home at 17, went to Md. Then, the Navy, and, in order, FL, IL, WV, FL, NY (upstate), and VA. Now in VA near DC. Hope to go back to WV when it's time to grow old and die.

i was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago. Just a short train ride to the heart of Downtown. Home of the Chicago White Sox!!! (i'm sure the Cub fans won't like me but, oh well. if you live near Chicago, There Can Be Only One!) I love being a short drive away from Lake Michigan. I've pretty much always lived near here. Longest time i have ever been away was when i spent the summer in Tampa/St.Pete FL.

Reading where everyone has lived got me thinking back to where I have lived and the more I thought about it the more I just went WOW.

Seems I have lived in quite a few places over the years. I guess this will qualify me as an official wanderer. I have tried to list them as best I could in order but as you can imagine it is kind of hard to keep it all straight in my head (don't get old  ) so I am sure I have missed a few places.

But here goes.

Hutchinson, Kansas
Memphis, Tennessee
Orlando, Florida
San Diego, California
Pearl Harbor, Oahu Hawaii
Whidby Island, Washington
Makaha Beach, Oahu Hawaii
Toms River and Lakehurst, New Jersey
Pensacola, Florida
Doraville, Georgia (Atlanta)
Orlando, Florida
Charlotte, South Carolina *
Wrightstown, New Jersey *
Columbus, Georgia *
Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska *
Anniston, Alabama *
Chamblee, Georgia (Atlanta)
Petersburg, Virginia
Palm Springs, California
Duluth, Georgia (Atlanta)
Treasure Island, Hollywood and Tampa, Florida
Riverdale, Georgia (Atlanta)
Matlacha, Florida
Lawrenceville, Georgia (Atlanta)

I have at this point spent the last 18 years on Treasure Island, more or less :32:

I'm currently in San Francisco, but was born/raised in Mendocino County - lots of weed and lots of wine (I like the wine). I've lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Texas, thanks to the Army. Eventually I'll experience Afghanistan and possibly Iraq.

Claire: I know where Arcata is. Many family "vacations", which included one or more children vomiting in the car, caused us to pass through Arcata on our way up to Oregon/Washington/Idaho. :) And i am not at all bored by genealogy - i find it fascinating, in fact - you are not alone!

Still Northern Cali... but I may decide to change that to

"Living whereever the bike takes me." At least for a few years.
Planning a September spree... and a Spring Fling... followed by another Summer in the States.

So there will be more "ambassadorial" opportunities.

But first... jury duty.

Arcata, huh? please, you're just the other half of Eureka... ;) Of course, you could be a touch further North in Crescent City and run the risk of being tsunami'ed off the map again...

I live in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada.. it's a gift to wake up to the mountains everyday ^_^ Sadly, drugs and STI/Ds run rampant here and in the neighboring city.. ugh. Plus the housing here is just plain stupid, with a single house 3bdrom/2bath going for approx 2.5 Million. WTF!? The kids here are a bunch of corrupted brats who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter. I work 2 jobs to just survive.

Okay I've ranted :D

To see how many places you all have been to just made me aware how little of this world i've seen.
I was born in Melbourne, Australia, came to the suburbs of Zurich when i was 4 and stayed there the next 17 years.
However, i managed to move across town. Not really a big leap, tho, since it takes only 45 minutes on the bicycle to visit my parents.

im in the best town in the UK...a very multi-cultural place in yorkshire called Leeds, we have the best football team in the land ...although that might be disputed quite a bit from the other english folk here lol
we're usually known as some of the most down to earth, friendly, blunt people (sometimes very vocal lol) in the country and generally very loyal and proud of our city whatever it's shortcomings and will defend it to the last.
i tried living in lancashire for a very short while i only lasted 2 months but im a leeds lass born and bred and was extremely homesick..****us yorkshire and lancashire people arnt exactly the best of friends! especially if they're leeds or manu supporters!

I live in York, United Kingdom, a small historic university city in North Yorkshire.
It's very similar to my hometown of Cambridge.
I've been in York over 2 years, and have been attending my local friendly munch for the same amount of time. I've ventured to nearby Leeds munch too!

I love small cities, with good real ale pubs and buildings which were built in an era where I'd only want to think about or watch films set in rather than live in as it was gruesome and brutal which goes beyond my liking.
