At night it sings to me, it calls to me
through vivid dreams of colorful sound
waking me in laps and rushes, waves pound
their melody on ghostly sand, the sea
begs me to run down creaking steps and see
the silver moon-path gleam, to spin around,
arms flung wide, head thrown back, long hair unbound,
to twirl and sing, just the moon, sea, and me.

But I cannot dance now, I am too old,
age an early cumbersome weight on my feet,
too responsible to waltz with the moon
and sea, no ropes of coral and pearls to preen
about in, no kelp thrones to be my seat,
too old to be a princess, dancing on the dunes.

I found this, going through some older writings, and liked it all over again. It reminds me of all the summers of my childhood, spent at the beach, and reminds me why, sometimes, I really wish I could get that time machine working.

Anyway...hope you enjoy.
