Walking Alone

Walking alone on these cold empty streets,
My thoughts follow in my wake.
Wandering, drifting,
Never standing still.

Looking out through this wire fence,
I see what little world i know.
Loud and dirty,
I call it my home.
Even if it may not agree.

My thoughts call to me,
Reminding me of my aching heart.
Never letting me rest,
Lest i could possibly forget.

And what of these rickety wooden steps?
Giving in to these leaden thoughts i carry.
Broken i will lie,
Not to be found for many a day.

Somewhere i know,
My feelings are shared.
But all i can ask,
Is it who i want it to be?
