Note that this may only be funny to the American posters, as it sort of relies on knowing American folklore, but:

Last night my husband and I had a close friend over for dinner. He isn't into BDSM himself but knows about our relationship. When I brought dinner to the table, my husband said, jokingly, "Now it'd better be good, or I'll have to punish you!" Our friend replied "Go ahead, throw her in the briar patch!"

Logic........
In an old folk tale, Brer Rabbit begged Brer Fox to do anything to punish him but throw him in the briar patch.
Of course, Brer Fox wanted to get Brer Rabbit as bad as he could, so he caught him by the behind legs and slung him right in the middle of the briar patch. There was a considerable flutter when Brer Rabbit struck the bushes, and Brer Fox hung around to see what was going to happen.
By and by he heard someone call his name and 'way up on the hill he saw Brer Rabbit sitting cross-legged on a chinquapin log combing the tar pitch out of his hair with a chip. Then Brer Fox knew he had been tricked.
Brer Rabbit hollered out, "Born and bred in the briar patch. I was born and bred in the briar patch!"

The nilla was comparing that with a submissive getting punished in a way that would please her, like a spanking.....

This reminds me of a comedy concert Ellen DeGeneris performed in. She talked about her tough Catholic school, where she was taught by Sister Mary Top. She got a good laugh... which cut off abruptly. You could just see what the audience was thinking. "Oh my God; if I laugh at that joke, people will know I _understand_ it!"
