I have been on this site for a while...usually in the background soaking up information.
I've been doin some reading recently about Tantric sex. A very interesting subject. It made me quite curious if anyone here knows much about or practices Tantra, and if you have used it in conjunction with bdsm.
Any information would be quite appreciated.

Just read a review on a book about Tantric sex, though I have no idea whether or not it addresses aspects of incorporating with BDSM play. Want me to check the title anyway? Oh and welcome to posting.

Sting prevents me from even reading anything about it sadly, cause it seems interesting.

There is actually a book that talks about this, Radical Ecstasy. Never read it but it has had a few good reviews.
Tantric sex is supposed to last for hours, right? I'd be careful combining that with bondage -- it could give a new meaning to "pins and needles."

Never knew Sting was into tantra, though I see your thought Logic1. ;) Do you know if Rev. Runar is into tantric sex or bdsm as well?
(note for non-Swedes: pentecostal Reverend Runar Sögaard used to be the husband of one of the best-selling singers of Sweden and at one time, when living in L.A., alleged to papers at home he had become the "spiritual coach" of Sting and some other megastars. Sting's press agent denied any connection)

I wanted to add stuff to this thread. It isn't exactly the same thing, but "Tantric Sex" comes from the Tibetan form of Buddhism. The idea is mind over body, which allows one to control their own orgasm. It can also come from the idea of Tantric meditation from Hinduism which is again the control of mind over body. The idea is that a person should indulge in the pleasures of the physical world in order to let go of the attachment to the earthly pleasures.
In both cases this can draw a parallel to some bdsm play with control and/or the desire for longer and/or meaningful sex. To control the mind and body and let go of the attachment to pleasure, you learn more about yourself and your limits.
Time for my 2 cents: The sort of Tantric sex talked about by erotic writers is sort of a bastardization of Tantrism. It is like the kind of yoga people do for exercise. Sure, it is good for that, but it isn't what it is for. Yoga is a sort of meditation and prayer done with the whole body. Thoughts, breathing, movements of the arms, placing of the fingers, etc. are all involved to complete "mindful meditation". This sort of meditation is a homage to the gods and a way to control the mind and body to reach liberation.

Good post. :) As a yoga student I am very conscious of the fact that while right now I'm working to just achieve the poses, my ultimate goal is to move beyond caring about what my poses look like.
I have been thinking about starting a thread about yoga and BDSM -- not only because the flexibility training and use of various blocks, straps and props to achieve positions seem to have a certain bondage appeal, but because both philosophies hold that through extreme humility and discipline an individual can be truly liberated. :)
