If any of you have a playroom or dungeon could you describe it? What does it look like and what types of toys and/or furniture does it contain?
If you do not have one, but have an idea of what yours would be like, please share that too.
This newbie is completely clueless about such things except for in fiction.

We turned the retreat in the Master bedroom into our Dungeon .. don't like "playroom".
going to be painting it differently soon. and install some more items to attache to walls. couple more BDSM furniture items for furnishings.
A cedar wardrobe converted to house all the toys, ropes and chains, etc..
it's nice.

Thanks Wolfscout for the info. I don't mean to offend by calling it a "Playroom," but I've heard it called both.
The thread on tools of the trade was helpful. I'm wondering if scenes are carried out mostly in a specific room designed for them, or if most people just use whichever room is "handy."
What types of funiture do you think is priority? I'm still new, and would like to know how others got started, so to speak.

My master and I have a tiny place, and we just use whatever room and furniture is handy. Chairs, desks, and tables that you already have can work great. You can experiment and see what furniture works the best.
I think that the best playrooms develop organically as the couple or person figures out what is needed and what would be nice. Maybe start out experimenting with what you have, and then acquire BDSM specific furniture as it is needed, for example if it turns out you don't have anything that's the right height for spanking over, or you want to tie a person up in a certain way but there's nothing that works well for that.

Thanks for the suggestions!
We have a room in our basement is partitioned off with concrete blocks (used to be used to store coal - old house) It is rather small, but can serve the purpose. Also, it can be sound-proofed rather easily. With a small child in the house, it's hard to have "things" all over.
I guess I just thought more people would have a designated space for this. With so many "accessories" how does one keep up!?!

HI looks like you are asking the right questions. Everyone is different but there are several sites where you can look and toys and equipment and are relativly easy to order. Different colors of rope and tape, wrist and ankle restraints, whips and a bed in the room works wonders different floor coverings in sections adds to the mix, proper lighting can add to the atsmosphere.

I have a dungeon in my house, in the basement. I spent a lot of time building my toys specifically for my own tastes. If you are into "making" your own items, there is a book called The Better Bondage Book which has how tos on almost everything. From St. Andrew's Crosses, to spanking benches, fu**ing machines, etc.
O/our dungeon is done in black and gray, we used the individual carpet tiles (so feet won't get cold), and I even have eye hooks bolted into the walls for bondage and stuff. It all depends on your taste and the amount of space you have. What I did was built a wall cabinet for all my toys, and it locks too.
I also "customized" my bed where I can use rope in various ways, or for a more secure type of bondage situation. I enjoyed building my toys because they were "mine," plus you customize them to how you like which makes it unique. Unlike most things you buy. I even built a slave box, my slave hates it (used for punishment) but you would never guess who "asked me" to build it, ahem, her. Now, she despises it, which now I love it...evil grins.

My basement has much too low a ceiling to be used as a dungeon (6ft 4 headroom) - I like suspension - a lot <weg>. So I renovated the basement to make additional living space down there - bedroom, workroom, study and a small family room and a pantry/laundry room.
I converted the second bedroom on the main floor into a dungeon - it has a 9 ft ceiling. Toys are on racks on the wall, there is a large suspension rack in the middle of the room - and an older futon below it as a pad (the futon gets moved aside during suspension to prevent messes) the floor it tiled. Nothing is built in permanently - mainly because I intend to sell and move in the near future - I'm looking for a rural property with a barn as well as house, and with lots of trees. The barn will become the dungeon - with really high suspension possibilities <weg>.
I don't have children - so the added privacy/security isn't needed - but it would be no issue to add same if needed. The current dungeon can be locked up - and soundproofing would be reasonably easy.
I make a lot of my own furniture - the frame, a really comfortable spanking bench. I'm currently working on a spreading chair (which won't have a full seat - to allow easy access to the nether regions - lol). On the books for when I move is a rotating St Andrews Cross, and some stands. I also plan to make a form of gibbet out of steel banding which will be used for suspension as well. I also intend to make a globe display cage - that promises to be lots of fun.

You know I'm thinking as elaborate as this is, a lot of money could be made by designing dungeons. We should be going into interior decorating folks. Wouldn't that be fun.
OMG!! Decorating is a personal hobby of mine.........never really thought of going the dungeon route..... I wonder if those that have let me work on their houses would let me work on dungeons as well? NOT!!! LOL
However, PRO DOM, if you're in, I'm in!!! "Pro-Isa Dungeon Designs International" Has a certain ring to it, don't you think?!

lol, any where I am is a dungeon, just need a willing partner. I don't think I have bought a piece of furniture in decades that can't be used for at least one additional purpose.
I found a table and chair set at a local thrift store that has short legs, I took out the brace on the one side of it so that I can use it to make cuffs and other gear on it and it will work well for tieing a lovely to it and has her head or bottom at just the right height for penetration.
I have a large ottoman that I can put my legs on or tie a lovely either face up or down to for a bunch of fun things. then there is kneeling on the floor tied to the ottoman for great anal.
Hooks in my spare bedroom ceiling and ring bolted to the wall so that she will experience a flogging while enjoying the view of the denver skyline and lights as she feels the tender touch of suede.
I could go on but I think I have made my point

Mistress Leah and i have a 3 bedroom house. The master bedroom is where Mistress sleeps. i sleep in the other room and the 3rd room which is 21'x21' is our "playspace".
The whole room is painted black. We have a large cage in one corner. A St Andrews cross on the wall. A spanking bench which collapses when not in use. We put hooks into the ceiling beams. We also put flush hooks in the floor, the kind that you open a flap to access the hook. We installed wooden bars on the walls with hooks to hang the "equiptment" from. We also have a sort of dresser that was designed to fit in a corner with 4 drawers. On top we have a T.V. with a DVD player and a stereo. Inside we keep all the ass play items, the electro stimulator box and attachments and some other assorted toys. Next to the dresser we have a wall unit for my crossdressing wardrobe. There is a 4'x2' wooden toy chest where we keep anything else. For lighting we put in those rope lights all arond the perimeter of the "space" in the corners where the ceiling and wall meet. We also have a large black light on the ceiling and a red light and many candles. i just recently bought a strobe light.
It took about 5 years to get the "playspace to where we want it. But now it is very respectable looking and very "user friendly".

Look over this (http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6905&highlight=furniture) thread -- some pics of my space and toys, and some other peoples' as well.
I'm going to make a spanking bench in the next couple months, I'll post images of that too once it's done.
As for important furniture, I suggest getting a bed that you can be tied to: there are a lot of possibilities from that position, and it's a toy that can be used for longer periods. I made our with several hooks around the base, and no upright posts to get in the way, but any sturdy bed with convenient spots for locking subs to is good. The other starter I'd suggest is a st andrews cross; they're VERY easy to make and, how I made them -- with removable bolts in the center -- very easy to break down and store.
Enjoy, and please share whatever you come up with!

Here's one I made earlier EB - it has a split kneeler, is nicely padded (and very comfortable and has rings (not there when the pictures were taken) to hold a girl down. I used mahogany ash and maple (the reclining slope and kneeler are 3/4 birch ply....it works a treat - weg)

Glad you like 'em, Isa, and I'd be happy to show you all the ins and outs next time you're in the northwest *wicked grin*
I actually pondered the idea of trying to sell the crosses :)
Can't wait for your pics to be approved, Whip!
