Nice new layout, without making any unasked changes in the content of the old forums it has become easier to find one's way, and I think new people will appreciate that.

It's good to see also that the A-Z of BDSM section is being restarted - and I find myself liking Widget's suggested theme for O. :)

All praise to those who must have spent like forever re-organising this.

Great job, much easier to find things although it was a little confusing when I first logged on after a weekend away to find it all changed lol

As a first impression, I don't much care for it. I prefer the black, darker appearance. Closer to my personality, I suppose. Any chance you could have a user configurable setup?

I do wish you could fix the problems with the server. Half the time when I try to get here my browser can't find the page. And most times when I try to post a reply I have to make several tries to get the site. I don't have this problem anywhere else, so I have to assume it's you and not me!

It used to be light... then it went to black & everyone complained... now it's back to light & so people will complain *laughs* But Tiger, I think it looks fantastic, MUCH easier to read stuff & doesn't hurt the eyes!!!

I am sure the chat link will be fixed, but for now, y'all will have to cope without chat for a day or two while Torq & Tiger take care of the issues... so pleaaaaassssse don't continue to post about it... yes, we all know it's missing, yes, working on fixing it... I will PROMISE to let you allllllll know when it's back up... though you'll probably figure it out on your own.

Anyway, I like it better this way (colors wise)... not that my opinion matters much *laughs*

Since you asked...

The color personally doesn't matter to me, it was yellow, then black, now blue. What does bother me are the posts with special colors that will, once again, be harder to read because we went from light to dark back to light. This post (http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/showthread.php?p=519497#post519497) being a prime example.

And I haven't checked many profiles, from what I have seen though it doesn't look user friendly.

What does Top Thanked and Top Referrers mean on the front page? And is it really wise to show the "Most viewed threads" at the top since they are all gaming threads, atm, and top posters? That doesn't seem to be highlighting that we are a BDSM site but more of a game site.

And I guess my only other comment is more of a plea... could you PLEASE post a thread a few days in advance letting everyone know that changes are going to be made, the site will be down, on such and such a date so people know what is going on? I don't think the changes are so much the issue as the frustration level that is built up while the changes are being made since no one knows why/what is happening all they know is they can't log on. After all BDSM is all about communication you would hope a BDSM site would involve active communication as well... :)

For now,,, you can turn off the ""Top 5 Statss"" panel at the top by clicking on top left of the stats box and menu will appear to let you turn it off,,,

Working hard on things,,, please be patient as issues are worked through one by one,,, aware of chat issue already,,,

Well, honestly, i liked the black, but i'm also very accustomed to working on sites and message boards with black backgrounds. The message board i've been visiting for 10 years now has always had a black background. i guess i just got used to it. When i started comming here, everything was black, so that's what i got used to here. Like Lookingforsomething, i say give me a week or so to get used to the new changes, i don't think that i 'dislike' them, i think i just need to get used to them. One thing i did really like was the new thing with profiles where you can leave messages, not private messages, but ones that everyone can see, that's kinda cool. Thanks Torq for letting me know that you can take the stats off the top, i don't really have much interest in those, so if i can take them off, alls the better for me! Also, i agree with annie, the server was weird almost all day yesterday, had a couple of hours where neither Draco or i could access the site at all. Then it suddenly came back and i figured it had a cyber fart or something. Came back around 2:30am (EST) and found everything still in black, but profiles were down and the chat link kept linking to the forums, that got weird. Torq, i tried sending you an IM, but i didn't know if i remembered your screenname correctly, so if you got one around 3am, that was me.
All in all, i've got no real complaints and eagerly await all the changes to be made and finalized so i can go back to using everything as i used to.
One little suggestion i do have though, maybe until everything's finalized, putting up some type of notice at the top of the page "This site is undergoing upgrades, please check back soon" or something like that. i know a lot of new people come through here and i wouldn't want to miss out on them because they don't know everything the site has to offer. Not sure how feesible that is, but it's just my two cents.

Wasnt sure about the new layout at first but now ive had a play around I like it. Agree with Dru about the profiles. I much prefer these now ive got used to them. Thanks for your post, Annie. Maybe instead of "Thanks" and "Thanked" we could have "Whipped" and "Whipped by"?

Personally I like playing games ;) but I agree that their predominance in the "most popular" section does make it seem like this is a games site. Although ... there ARE games played here, and lots of members do play them ... maybe BDSM isn't all serious.

Is Powder blue really appropriate for a bdsm site?

Don't get me wrong... I enjoy the games section as much as anyone and spend some down time there occasionally as well. But as you stated so much better then I could their predominance in the "most popular" section probably won't give a first impression of the site being "the best BDSM site on the net."

Just a little tip, for those who may not be aware of it. By holding down the left mouse button and "dragging" the cursor across the text, you can highlight it, making it MUCH easier to read. This works for light text on a light background or dark text on a dark background.

Not always! I had no problems with the last one, but this format (blue/black text on white background) will be easier to read, particularly with the various colours that some members use. Thumbs up (just).

I may be able to add a black theme as well for people. I switched it because so many had asked for it to be changed back to a lighter color.

Chat link is back and working.

Server problems = I'm working on them, trying to figure out what is causing them. It looks like we are growing again and may have out grown this server. If that is the case it will take about a week or so to order, setup and move to a new one.

Here is some food for thought...

The colossal misunderstanding of our time is the assumption that insight will work with people who are unmotivated to change. Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard. People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them. Even the choices words lose their power when they are used to overpower. Attitudes are the real figures of speech. -E. Friedman

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time. -Abraham Lincoln

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it. -Mary Engelbreit

Yes, I like it. Over time you adapt to almsot any colour just by force of habit but I was never really happy with the jet black scheme. There's a bunch of new features that look good too, the option to create an open public group of some kind is one - that used to be a default thing on the profile but it lead nowhere, everyone was "not a member of any public groups" and there was no way to actually start one. Now it's suddenly come alive. Good work!

I don't mind the colors at all, it will undoubtably be easier to read as well. My favourite color is blue anyway, so I can't complain.

I had to try out the thanks button on one of just annies previous posts just to see what it did. It's a neat feature.

I like the profile set ups, but are there things we can adjust in there.

Now people can view my friends list and heaven forbid everyone will now know that I am a big loser with no friends. Can I hide that?

I don't like the fact that if I view a persons profile my name will now show up on thier profile. Is there a way to do that anonomously?

If we use the invisible feature, will our names show up then? I guess I can just try that out anyway.

Sorry if I am being nit picky, but those things are issues with me.

I liked the darker layout a lot better.
As for the functions, I did not get around to try them yet.

I still need to add the links back the old one had. I'm working on it.

As far as the colors go, seems half like it dark and half like the bright stuff.
I will try to add another dark theme and let people pick which one they prefer. Although that will be quite a bit more work. I will put it on the list of things to get done.

For now my main concern was getting the upgrade done and making it as functional and clean as possible.

@ TomOfSweden: I´m afraid I have to admit I liked the "adolescent porn look" very much. *cough*

@ Cadence: I just realized I am a loser with no friends as well *giggles*. Feel free to add me :-)

@ Torq: I have to admit the new look is a lot more easy to read, and I think the new profile features are pretty neat.
BUT I liked the black layout better *whine whine whine*. Do you think you could create a special, personal layout for every user? I think you could squeeze that little bit of work easily in between the posting of new submitted stories, as I think you and delia waste FAR too much time with this "private life" thing I keep hearing about, anyway.

Well thrall you beat me to the punch. Yes another new look. I like it too. I liked the black scheme as well, after all black is my favourite non colour but this has a brightness to it and it is very easy to navigate and read through. Thanks to the admins and mods who continue to do a great job. And when I post this I will even hit the new thanks button although I think it thanks the thread starter, who deserves thanks too, because she is a nice person anyway!

I should add a big thanks to Tiger for the changes. This is my third quick visit back and I even had a friend request. Damn now I'm really going to have to spend some time seeing what other little goodies are now available. It would seem this is the new Rolls Royce of forums. I'm truly Gob smacked. But then again it doesn't seem to take much these days to make me gob smacked.

Personally I really like the coclour scheme this way it is so bright and fresh. On my 22" LCD wide screen monitor the avatars are huge, the text clear. Just amazing really. Again well done!

I like the blue now much better than at first, it was so drastic a change from the black. I find it easier on the eye and as someone mentioned it is not so porn site looking this way. I think it would be nice to turn the friend option off if you like as I wonder if people will worry about offending someone by not adding them ect.

There have been a few comments made about the fun and games showing in the stats part at the top, personally I would not think too much of it either way but perhaps there is a way to have that forum not show in the stats.

Overall I always enjoy change, it makes the familiar new and interesting again. I think it just needs a few days to get used to new look. Thank you to Tiger and Torq for all the hard work in creating a new look for the forum.

Openness and safety

One thing that's worth noticing is that the site has become more open and "transparent" to non-regged visitors. Apart from the Welcome board and the Library Info Center, all boards used to be non-visible to "guest viewers" (in Rabbit's days it was mainly the Welcome Board and General Talk that were open like that). But as for now, if I'm in on the forum and waiting more than fifteen minutes to open a new page or refresh, and then I'm logged out - well, I can still see what is written on that page (the last I was on) and maybe on other pages in the same thread, even if it's a non-public board (of course, one can't post though).

So the content is still visible to someone who could arrive at the pc after you if you haven't expressly logged out (and it might be possible to see it days after from the visited pages cache (Show->explorer field->earlier pages in Windows). Something to think about if you're logging on from a public pc or one you're sharing with someone (your kids?) whom you don't want to know about your visits here or to guess about what you've been writing.

thepast

The only thing the site can control is what different usergroups see what... in other words, you are a registered user, so you can see different things then a non-logged in or non-registered user can see--they STILL can't see the main forums areas, just the basic stuff they've been able to see since before the upgrade (not much... I think its just specific subforums in the info area...). Access hasn't changed for any of that type of stuff.

HOWEVER, once you log in, your browser caches the cookies for the page you are on--in other words, you will forever be able to see the page you are currently on if you never close your browser. That page will never refresh itself & you won't be able to post--you'll just be able to see what it was when you loaded it. It's the same thing that happens for every website you see anywhere on the net... That's the same reason that web-based email programs (yahoo, hotmail, gmail) always are careful to warn you to log out & close your browser windows--anyone coming onto the computer after you can see what you last had opened if you don't just close the screen. The way to prevent this is to clear your cookies every time you log off the site--and not just via the site--you need to clear them in your BROWSER. It's up to you to maintain "safety" for yourself.

As for the 15min "log out" rule, if you have the "Remember me" button checked, you wont be logged out (at least I never am), but if you don't and you are inactive in the forums for 15min, it'll log you out.

As always, have fun, but play safe. If you don't want someone seeing that you're here, you either shouldn't be here, or you should have measures in place to ensure they don't "catch" you... None of this is news to anyone, I would hope.

Christopher Columbus, a body goes MIA for a brief time and returns to total and absolute confusion. (Well, I'm confused easily.) teehehe. Actually, I thought I was in the wrong place. But when I finally realized that changes had been made, without my permission, btw, I was all excited. (well, I'm excited easily.)

I simply adore the colors. Blues, cool and soothing as icy hot. hehehehe. As said before, it's much easier on the eyes. And all those little tidbits at the top, oh happy day. But what is that "notification" thingie under my name? And did I read that now I can't cruise new folks without them knowing I've been checking them out? Oh my, that does put a damper on things. I'm so very, very shy. *glares* Was that snicker really necessary?

Anyway, thanks to all the people behind the scene that made this happen. And yes, Torq, change is good. *hands him Sunday's underwear. I think.* Hell, they both have the letter "S" embroidered.

I like it and think it looks good........one comment only.......

One thing i did like was the the Administrator/Owner red would stand out in the register of who is on line..........Yes this is not as bright red......but the admin red will not stand out as it once did.......

Well, I was away for nearly two months due to a busted wireless sensor and the computer having been sent away to get fixed....and look what a beautiful forum I came back to! I love all the colors, doo-dads, and fun stuff- great job everybody! Still getting used to the layout and extras, as I haven't really had a chance to poke around yet (still catching up on posts). After the past 6 months of craziness, I'm looking forward to getting back to normal. Did anybody miss me?? :D

Hello Allll,

As you can see each "section" of the Library now has an Archive section. In an effort to "freshen" up the Forums main page these archive sections contain "older" threads/posts.

The main Froums boards will always keep an average of one (1) years threads/posts. All archive sections are still completely open for your review and for posting if you wish.

In addition the new "Reference Center" is now completely open for posting AND more new Sections are coming SOON !!!

Thank you to allll members,, and Enjoy

I have a question about the writers block archive.......

Can the general members see the writers block archive?.....the understanding i have of the block is that all assignments..........are only for the viewing of the members of the block and the instructors. That the stories there were not to be seen in "public forum"........that is why it is labeled......private

just as level one's cannot see level four........can everyone see the block archive, or only those with access?

thanks

Thanks to Torq for setting this up and to Alex Bragi for the idea and some refinements.

The Blue Pencil Sharpening (http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=145) forum lets volunteer editors help out aspiring authors.

Authors mail me to have a sample added to the forum. Editors may edit (as per the guidelines) at any time.

One week later I'll do a poll and a roundup.

I sure hope we get enough volunteer authors and editors to make this work!

Best to all,
Clevernick

I've seen other forum sites that let you select from a list of themes, changing the color/graphic layout of the website. Perhaps it would be nice if this site had alternative themes? I mean, the default red and black is just so dark...and scary! Well, I mean, most people probably don't mind, I just thought I'd ask ^^

I cannot find either way. I want to be notified about specific blogthreads whenever anybody adds to them and also I want to have a list somewhere of the blogs that I have been enjoying, have commented on, etc.

I tried what you wrote down below but could not see anything to even try to use...

once again, please help. I am finding that much I could be enjoying in our community is beyond me because I cannot find explanations that really explain how to do something...

Hi folks,

As you are noticing, the site is taking some affirmative movements towards ensuring that there is uniformity & readability for posts while still allowing custom avatars & sig blocks. We have already taken affirmative steps to shrink avatar size (note the thread in tech corner already & the response). Likewise, we are looking at sig blocks as well. PLEASE do us (and yourselves!) a great service & take a few moments to police up your sig blocks by looking at the following list.

The reason we are "concerned" about both avis & sig blocks is that they both affect the viewing of the forums for everyone. In particular, if your avi is huge but sig block tiny, everytime you post your post will be "long" simply to conform to your avi. Same issue w/your sig block--it is added onto your posts, so it lengthens the posts significantly.

A year ago or so, it wouldn't have mattered what size your sig block or avatar was--but the site has grown 10-12 fold since last year-- we have over 500 viewers online most days-- hence the need for the change.

Here's the list:

Cut the size on your sig block font down to 3--any bigger is really unnecessary--at size 3, everyone can read it.
Condense your sig block down. If you have 20 things you want to say, try & pick a few, maybe rotate through them. Folks with 6 lines of size 3-4-5 text that are spaced 2-3 lines apart or folks w/ 8-9-10 quotes: we're talkin to you! *grins*
Justification--people like to play around w/it. Fine. However, please restrict yourself a bit--you don't need one 8 line blurp centered, then another right justified, then another left justified... maybe condense the lines down, or just do 1-2 at a time.
Colors/fonts--colors & font choices in sig blocks are a GREAT way to express yourself w/o making the blocks bigger.
Pictures/awards--some of you have awards that you like to show off--that's great! You might consider your 2-3 most prominent/special/important ones & put those up. Or put them all in a horizontal line (i.e. so 5 take up the same space as 1). If you have HUGE pictures in your sig blocks, you will probably be getting a PM to please shrink the pic--so you could do us a *big* favor & shrink it yourself!
Preview your sig block-- take a look at it before you put it up--is it what you want?

If there is additional profile areas we can put in that people would enjoy, please just let us know--we are trying to give you more personal space (user albums, groups, friends lists, profiles) while at the same time balancing the needs of the site for readability & clarity (avatars, sig blocks).

If within a week or so your sig block is still at a ridiculous size, we may delete it--so please fix it yourself! It has been a guideline of the forums for over a yr, so this should be absolutely no surprise to folks! In a week or so we're going to start going through folks, starting w/the biggest "offenders"... again, please take the time to edit it yourself!

Thank you all for your cooperation!

Ok,
Folks been 5 days asking that everyone please reduce their signature blocks down to 3" or LESS as in the Forum Guidelines.

Please note with the amount of traffic we now get and the post count climbing to over 750,000 and members over 43,000 we ALL need to SHARE!!!!

As of Tuesday 12/20 I will start reducing same. Please do NOT reset them back larger after they have been reduced, re-organize or re-do quite ok, BUT not larger, TY

THANKS to everyone for your co-operation in this matter.
