The Light

Written by: Snowflake

A lost little kitten, in the dark,
a flame barely flickers, a safe mark.
Of a place that she once was safe in,
Is now tiny, as small as a pin.

Once large and bright, it showed the way,
But to see it now, she must pray.
Reality takes over, and dims the light,
Til it almost completely out of sight.

The warmth is gone, from it's bright glow,
if it will come back, she does not know.
She can only hope, and wait in fright,
That it will grow again one night.

So cold, does this place feel now,
To brighten it, she knows not how.
She cries for it, in the dark,
To show her there still is that mark.

Yearning and needing it, beyond belief,
She thought it was sturdy, like a reef.
But just like a reef, the light can die,
without attention or at least a try.

She sees him sitting, by the low light,
The one she longs for, in her sight.
If only your eyes would meet, just once more,
The light could be bright again, and love could soar.

I am with you, though so far apart
With every beat of your pure, sweet heart
I am within you, with guidance and light
A strong loving hand, warm arms in the night
My lost little sweet one need not wander alone
I will be beside you, true down to the bone
All pain, all loss, all fears will subside
I will do all I can do, as I walk at your side
Don't forget this lesson, keep my words in your heart
Each day I am with you, though so far apart.

Such beautiful words she hears in the breeze,
is it her mind playing and being a tease?
Does she dare look up at him once more,
To see if love continues to soar?

She turns her head slowly to look at him,
And sees the light is no longer quite so dim.
As he is looking at her with eyes so warm,
Her heart lifts up and her emotions swarm.

She was so wrong to doubt him that way,
after hearing the words she just heard him say.
She lowers her head in total shame,
knowing that she was completely to blame.

She should have known he was there all along,
and never had doubt their bond so strong.
He holds out his hand and brings her back in,
and tells her his poem once again.

On how he will always be there by her side,
And his lesson she learns and she will abide.
And will never again feel so insecure,
For she knows now their committment is pure.
