WASHINGTON - Adm. William Fallon, the top U.S. military commander for the Middle East, is resigning, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday.

Gates said Fallon had asked him Tuesday morning for permission to retire and Gates agreed. Gates said the decision was entirely Fallon's and that Gates believed it was "the right thing to do."
Fallon was the subject of an article published last week in Esquire magazine that portrayed him as opposed to President Bush's Iran policy. It described Fallon as a lone voice against taking military action to stop the Iranian nuclear program.

Was it the Right thing For The Admiral Fallon who is Navy Commander in the Mid East, since he publicy Critisized Bush's War Policy as a Commander in the Miltary, or did he resigned voluntarily since his marks were made public, so he would not have been forced to resign under pressure, but did he resigned on his own accord, despite what Sec. Gates has said, instead of being asked to step down?? simply put did Adm Fallon voluntarily resign to avoid being pressured to so after his comments of Non Support For Bush's policies were made public??
makes for interesting thought if nothing else
