HI

I am having massive Library problems.
Like with pages loading really slowly....taking several minutes to load.
The pictures are taking ages to show even down to the point that some pages are showing up in differnt colours.

Is anyone else having the same problems?

I've had it too, and a couple of times I've gotten a "Server not found" message. Maybe the forum is running slow in general. I know this has happened to me at other forums, where the pages load slow some days.
Hopefully this is just temporary.

I can hardly log on even. Get timeouts all the time on this page, and that "server not found" message too. Dont think I have really looked through the forum since friday cause of that.
Really annoying imo.

Yeah, I've been having the same problem, all weekend and right up to now. I just keep plugging away and eventually get in, but eventually I get that "Server not found" message again.

This has been going on for quite a while, but it's been especially bad for the past 4 or 5 days.

I have been unable to see the server for the last 2 days at all.

I'm logged in now through a proxy (hidemyass.com) but am not able to come in from my regular IP address.

This is almost certainly a DNS problem, as discussed before. I pointed out the DNS errors on the dnsstuff.com diagnostics page, offered to help, and nobody answered.

At the moment I may not have time to help, unfortunately, but I'll try if asked.

I was just now able to get in. I cleared everything and that didn't work. Unplugged my modem and waited a minute and plugged it back in.

Hi,

I've tried to join the Academy forums. I have had the activation email and followed that and had a welcome email but every time I try to log in it says welcome then goes back to the login screen.

What am I doing wrong???

I know the Academy was having a few minor problems last week. They may still not be completely resolved. I would pm Torq and let him know!

Okay, yesterday I had to change my password for the site, no problem. But since then I find myself having to log in each time I come back, even though I have checked the "Remember Me" box at the log-in.

I do have cookies allowed for this site and haven't had this problem prior to yesterday. Anyone else finding this? Anyone know what I can do about it?

Thanks!

annie

Have you cleared your cookies? That should fix the problem. What is happening, I believe, is the site is reading the old cookies not the updated one with the new password so it is not keeping you logged in.

I'm having the same problem. I cleared my cookies, ran a disc cleanup and deleted my temporary files, restarted the computer and then came back to the site. When I logged back in, I checked the remember me box. A couple of hours later, when I tried to get today's posts, it made me log in again.

Other suggestions would be appreciateed.

I'll try clearing cookies. Let you know what happens.

I have not been going to the Academy, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Same problem here, and I'm not going to the Academy either. Cleared cookies etc!

Yeah, the forums has some bizarre features... one of which is the log in issue. Sometimes, I hit the remember me button and it keeps me logged in for 2-3 weeks with no problem, I clear cookies, and I have to relog in (how it's suppose to work!)

Other times I go through stretches where I have to re-log in every single time I come into forums...

Some common problems:
1. You cleared cookies since you last came into forums. Some puters clear them automatically when you close your browser. Check the settings.
2. You can log in, but a "you have a PM" window pops up, you click into that... sometimes that messes with your "remember me" cycle the next time you log in.
3. Did you accidently forget to click the remember me button the last time you were in?

If none of these work, come find me and I can teach you the "Log in Dance".... :p

Thorne
10-22-2007, 08:11 PM
Okay. Several hours ago I cleared my cookies, shut down Firefox, then restarted and logged back in to the Forums. When I came back now I was logged in already, "remembered" from earlier. So, at least in my case, clearing the cookies seemed to have fixed it.

To the best of my knowledge, this was the first time this has happened since the last time I had to change my password. It makes sense to me that the cookie was not properly updated when I did so, and was therefore keeping the site from remembering me.

The only suggestion I can make to those who still have the problems is to check how your browser is handling cookies. I know that, with Firefox or Netscape you can set your browser to accept "Session Cookies" which I think are supposed to be deleted when you close your browser. It's a little more complicated in Internet Explorer (duh!), but I think something similar happens. For sites like this, where you want to remain logged in all the time, you have to accept cookies completely, not just for the session.

It is completely an Windows IE issue. I've switched over to my Mac (using either Safari or Netscape as my browser) and things there are fine. However, when I come back to my pc, it won't remember my login for more than 15 minutes.

I've done everything short of reinstalling--cleared cookies, empty temp. internet files, rebooted, logged on, clicked remember me and it still won't remember me. Suggestions?

annie
10-23-2007, 10:23 AM
Hate to say this ER... but my only other suggestion would be reinstalling, especially if you have tried everything else. Either that or check and see if there is a program update for IE that may be the issue.

Sorry not sure what else to advise... I use FF because I have never gotten IE to work right for me!

Euryleia

Unfortunately, it is a work pc and I don't have the authority to reinstall. I will run a software update, tho. I guess I'll just have to play here only on my laptop b/c the never ending logging on is driving me crazy.

Mac's rule, pc's drool!

I always recommend Firefox. It has better cookie handling capabilities, especially for anyone with some computer savvy. I find that whenever I have problems with a site in IE it works well in Firefox, and vice-versa.

Yeah, ok, I don't know why it's doing this either. And it's not operating system dependent, though Vista does seem to have more issues with it than XP does. I log in and can stay remembered for forever on either of my laptops (Vista & XP), but no matter how T logs in, it never remember him. (really that's assinine of it if you think about it... not remembering your boss? ouch...) T hasn't had to change his password the 40x I have had to, so it really isn't a password issue... T's also doesn't refresh the Library pages correctly, but that's a Vista issue.

In any case, clearing the Library cookies is different than clearing the browser cookies. If you clear one and not the other, your computer sometimes does creepy stuff and keeps you logged in on some sites and not on others. Also, when IE updates itself, it sometimes installs patches for cookie issues, so although you may still be using same browser & settings, it isn't the same monster.

Keep fiddling around with the stuff... at some point there might be something that works.

Thorne
11-10-2007, 01:15 PM
Something else you might try: use a different browser. The three I use are Netscape, IE and Firefox. If one gives you problems try another.

I have a download problem with certain sites when I use IE, but when I use Firefox there's no problem. With other sites it's the opposite! Go figure.

I know there are other browsers out there, but I'm not familiar with them or their reliability or ease of use.

I am just going to go with the assumption that you have not created a profile there. It doesn't recognize your password from the forums, and you have to create a new profile over there.
And if you have created a profile there, I can always ask one of the admins over there to help out with that.

The Academy is a link at the top of the forums & goes to another area of the Library site. It's a place where people can go to get tasks or make tasks & is run by a different crew of folks then run the Forums, though Torq oversees it all & Tiger still owns it... That confuse you enough, Draco? *laughs*

Hey!

The Academy is a wonderful place where performers (submissives) and TMs (dominants) can learn more about task completion and setting.

We have just revised the whole forum and are always looking for members who wish to participate. It's ok if you don't have alot of experience, as we all are there to learn.

Of course, we tend to be on the kinky side and push ourselves often. But, then again, that is the fun part isn't it!

So please stop by and check us out. You can see a basis of what we do after you validate your account, we have an ever-growing resource center, home made craft corner and a few sample tasks that you can see before joining.

Look forward to seeing you!

I've had a few problems logging on but, when I eventualyy do acces the pages, all seems to be running fine...for a few minutes. Everything then slows down to a crawl, I can't refresh a page or select a new thread (tried it a couple of times) and then it runs fine for a few more minutes...and then slows right down again.

For me, the forum keeps crashing several times a day, for the last several days. The BDSM Library is my homepage, and, about half the time I log on, I get "This page cannot be displayed, or found". There must be a server issue of some kind, because I have no problem logging on to other sites.

Hope this gets resolved soon. I hate when this site is down! I love this site!

Server upgrades are about 99% complete, a little tweaking left to go. If your still experiencing difficulties, try a few of the following.

1. Clear your internet cache/cookies files
2. If your running Windows XP or older make sure your "internet" files are set high approx 2500+
3. Make sure (if you use chat) that you have downloaded the latest version of Java, I beleive its 10.1 or 11 version
4. Make sure you log completely out of Forums on occassions this allows the site and your system to "refresh" / update.
5. If your computer is more than 5 years old OW,, time for an upgrade LOL, kidding.

Just for the record I fixed my problem. Anyone who followed the advice in this post

As a workaround, I've added www.bdsmlibrary.com to my system's HOSTS file (a text file, /etc/hosts on Unix and Mac OS X systems, system32\drivers\etc\hosts in the Windows directory on Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista machines).

You should see lines like:
127.0.0.1 localhost

Add one for www.bdsmlibrary.com as follows:
208.53.170.232 www.bdsmlibrary.com

Now, your computer can bypass the buggy DNS servers and go directly to the bdsmlibrary server itself, without asking directions. (Downside: if the bdsmlibrary.com server ever moves, you'll need to update or delete that line so your browser finds the new location.)

to fix an earlier problem now needs to delete the line they added...
can't believe it took me so long to figure out lol.

Well, all right! Seems this move has been good for me, anyway. This past weekend, when you were apparently just switching over and still working out the bugs, there were some problems with time-outs, slow responses, dial-up speeds (and I mean ROTARY dial). Since Monday, though, things do seem much better. I haven't gotten a single one of those nasty "Cannot Find Server" notices that used to plague me, especially when I tried to post something to the forums.

Good job Torq and Tiger. This more than makes up for my (minor) disappointment in the new look.

Again it happened! An untold number of auto emails finally arrived after many, many attempts to log-in failed. Not once, but too many times has this same issue occurred. "Locked Out" seems to be the favorite expression of the robots at work. In fact, one of their so-called automated messages to me to reset my "forgotten"-NOT password even included a new password that failed, as well, leading once again to the "Locked Out" label! Per just_annie's suggestion to Thorne on this very same difficulty, i.e., to clear cookies, that also did not work. Who knows why a certain password finally did work???

FYI for Alll,

The password issue was and still is completely resolved approx. 6 weeks ago.
The Forum program was reset NOT to ask for a new password at any time.

IF you are stillhaving issues, please send me a PM or E-mail with specific details as to what is happening.

As alot have said clearing cookies, internet files, etc, does indeed help,, BUT keep in mind once you do that you MUST re-log in even if you checked the "remember me' box before.

In addition the new server is operating great, its capacity should hold us for quite awhile.
Issues of "getting kicked" is now 95% NOT the server. The server does "recycle" periodically and "weak" connections do drop, And "periodicially" is a rare occurance.

Thanks everyone for your patience and contributitions,

Be Well

Hi, I don't know if the move to the new forum had anything to do with this, or if there is a setting that needs to be adjusted, but, I used to receive e-mail notices of any private messages I got from friends, etc, via my e-mail address that the forum has. Although I know I have "Receive e-mail notices of private messages" checked in my profile, I don't seem to be receiving e-mails notifying me of my messages. If anyone has any idea of the reason for this, or any setting I could adjust to make this feature return, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

MitchSome ISPs filter out automated emails. I don't know if that is the case here but if all your settings are correct and the forum is in fact generating the notifications automatically you may want to ask your provider if that may be the case.

It's been fine for the last 30 minutes or so and then it ground to a halt, wouldn't let me post anything - and I couldn't log on again when I closed the program and tried to access it again.

Anybody else having the sdame things happening?

No, the trouble is that move only "soft deletes" the message and it'll turn out the way Tufty put it: there is a "trace" showing what was recently there. I had the same problem when I was on staff and would do some trial posts at a staff-only Forum to prepare what would come out in the Hall of Fame (because fixing anything once you'd posted the real thing in HF could be tricky). Those "pre-posts" and try-out posts were meant to be scrapped afterwards, but I could only soft delete them, had to ask cariad to do the permanent deletion.

Hate to contradict Torq, but the password issue is and continues to plague! As of just this last five minutes ago.

Why is it then, that all other sites seem to retain passwords, using I.E. or Firefox or whatever, yet this site continues ad naseum with pointed prompts scolding one for "forgetting" their passwords?

At least today, the automated message response did work as if to prove there must be a Silver Lining to even getting passwords straight here.

A I stated before the password issue is resolved,!!!!!!!!

The problem that WAS happening here was the settings were set to "request" the members to re-set/re-do a new password every 60 days ,, this WAS based on past guidelines of the Forums.

This issue as I stated WAS completely removed and no longer exists!!!!!!!!!!!

The issue of the "site" retaining your password is NOT the issue you refer to the site DOES indeed remember it,, if YOU!!!!!!!!! clear your browser and cookies then YES you MUST re-log in ,, as do I everytime I clear mine. This is NOT a problem with the site its just the way it is PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!

NOTHING more can or will be "fixe" in reference to pasword issue!!

At the risk of offending anyone, especially an Administrator, (TorQ) and his own exclamatory punctuations aside, it is NOT my problem of forgetting passwords and the issue of passwords does present itself within a 60-day period as so described.

To his credit, I again say that the allowance of admittance has been resolved.

Assuming that the rather exhaustive punctuations by Torq also equal exasperations, my sympathies.

It remains frustrating, however, for those not forgetting their passwords, (and clearing their cookies), to continue to be denied access and reminded by automated messages that they are negligent, plus the entire cause for the disruption. To only be seconded by an Administrator.

Suffice to say, exasperations or no, the issue of log-ins does continue despite all good intent of Administrators and Members, an issue that deserves to be fully addressed without recriminations from either side.

Sometime ago I joined one of the sites (of the Kink.com family) that's got banners at the top of this page. The content is great, but the picture looked jumpy and "high-compressed" although the sound and the colour quality were very good, so I reckoned there had to be something about the codec (the format of the film). More than a year ago I'd been a member of hogtied.com (same group of sites) and I'd kept some videos I downloaded from there, and plainly their motion was much smooother than in these new ones, even though it was the same type of video - wmv - and the bitrate of data is higher in these recent vids.

This morning I happened to find the reason; noticed a small tag "in hd wmv" on the site. HD WMV is a new codec of course, an upgarade of standard wmv - the proprietary Microsoft Wiondows Media Player format. But I can't locate a plugin to playback this new quality in WM player (version 10). I'm sure some of the knowledgeable cyber people on this forum can help me with this, though!

it seems that you will have to update to the new version of WMP which is 11. in there will automatically have the codecs you need.

Warbaby1943
03-16-2008, 12:02 PM
I have WMP ver. 11 so there is a newer one out like cg says. Hopefully that will do the trick for you. Warning, I was told and have no real proof of this, some computers may balk at running WMP 11. So I'd really make sure I could roll back if necessary. Hopefully creating a restore point may facilitate in that quest. Good luck.

I'm running v11 with XP and don't have many problems. Very occasionally, I've had a file that says it requires and additional codec but these are easily available and easy to install.

Failing that, I've opened video files in DivX Player without any problem

Warbaby1943

I have had no problems either and I too run XP Pro and Home and have several machines with ver. 11 on them. However, where I buy my computers, and they work with them every day, they told me they have had instances where ver. 11 corrupted some files so badly that the OS to had to be reloaded. This is more than likely a very isolated instance admittedly. It only becomes serious when it happens to you so still I believe creating a restore point is a good idea.

Thanks folks, it seems I'll have to install XP SP2 as well to provide for Media Player v11 - avoided SP2 for a long time because it had been reported to interfere with some non-Windows programs, but by now it's definitely needed; many programs now require it. I'll be making a major reboot and rewiring soon - planned before - and then I'll get SP2 and WMP 11 in as well.

running free sites isnt easy, its very time consuming theres often interruptions with techie stuff going on in the background, constant upgrades which can be a nightmare because when you upgrade some of the hacks dont work and need taking out and new ones installing and when the new versions and upgrades come out there tends to be a few bugs in them which can cause problems.

admin cant be around 24/7 so if theres a problem and thier not then there's nothing that can be done about it.

also each day when the server backs up the site that can make it run slow or even go down for the duration, the larger the site the longer it takes and is dependant upon the server too, and it can be pretty costly with no income generated from the site means you cant always go for the high tech stuff or pay for huge bandwith !
as the site becomes larger and larger it slows it down.
it might be helpful to know if you sometimes find yourself getting timed out when posting always open the view online in a seperate window

I don't know what Sir Russell means, but what I mean is that it just freezes. Stops with the page half loaded and just sits there for minutes or hours, which it did around 9:30 this evening.

for a free site with a plethora of advertising to compensate, yea it does pretty good.

I will compare it to MDS, cause they are approaching the user level you have. They also use ads for those that don't pay. However for those that do pay, there is no advertising. If you did something like this, I would gladly pay some sort of yearly fee similar to what MDS is doing. Their site downtimes are very seldom, so whatever the difference is between the two sites, they have less downtime.

i cant speak for bdsm library obviously and dont want to dominate this thread... might be a bit difficult for a sub lol ...but i do know from experience that advertising doesnt really generate any income, and most people dont want to pay for sites when there are so many for free even donations are pretty rare
and sometimes its the server who has technical problems which causes the site to go down.

I've fallen prey to this problem too, though to be honest, I've had issues with my own computer lately, so its difficult for me to pinpoint the actual problem. A few minutes ago, I did try to post something under technical problems, and wound up needing to reboot my computer and apparently, the post didn't make it to the server, and I didn't save a backup copy of it, as I do with my other stuff, in some notepad file somewhere. I guess I'll just have to type it up again later, though it is very frustrating to compose a lengthy message with lots of detailed technical information about a problem or two only to have that be time wasted.

ukslave,
If it isn't showing in chat, then it is one of two issues usually... either it's an avi you selected from this site, in which case you need to download it onto your computer & then re-upload it (it's a kink in the system)... or if it's a recent addition, it may not have cycled into chat yet. If you continue to have issues, please feel free to PM me.

Thanks,

Thank you for your reply, sorry if i wasnt clear on what i meant. I was hoping that there was a way to post tags or pictures here in this thread for example using the HTLM code or the IMG codes from photo bucket. I have tried and it didnt work soo it probable isnt possible. thanks again for your time * giggles love the saying * bite my nipple* :)

That's called 'hot-linking' and isn't allowed at this site as it uses a lot of band-width, fetching the image from the hosting site and then sending it to the viewer... no matter how many times you've seen the picture.

So they prefer you upload the picture. Then the full sized version is only sent to those who wish to see it.

What is the problem with the server? It was NEVER as bad as this :(

Log-on problems, server seems to just stop or slow down to a crawl, posts get 'lost' or aren't there when the page refreshes, post a reply and then told that I have to wait 30 seconds when it's my first posting, database error messages on quite a few occasions...and posting pictures is a nightmare; it's a hit-and-miss affair whether the server will grind to a halt and lose everything that's been posted.

Very frustrating

Hello,

I suppose there might be a problem with the reader-counter at the library.

The link to my story "Hardskill" is fitted with the following line:

(Added on Mar 22, 2008) (This month 8476 readers) (Total 8476 readers)

I'm checking the number of readers for some days; it is stuck at 8476.

Well, maybe no one likes my work:), but since the story is submitted two month ago, the information This month 8476 readers just can't be correct - I know that the story was read by a number of users last month, too.

As far as I know it is only this story that shows the problem...

Thanks

Alex Bragi

Well, thrall, I'm not certain, but I think that's for your own security as much as anything that you drop out after fifteen minutes of idle time. And again I'm not certain, but I don't think you can extend that time.

gagged_Louise
06-11-2008, 04:19 AM
You can extend the idle time to several hours by crossing the "Remember me?" box before logging in: then you won't be auto logged off (it's not something to be recommended though unless you really need it - refreshing some page every ten minutes or working with two windows so you can use one to 'go walkabout' is a better method).

I'd hazard the guess that the reason is not to have the servers overloaded. The more users that are tracked the more it weighs on the server, even if some of them are idle the mechanism has to keep updating who's online and what they did last.

Widget
06-11-2008, 04:51 AM
your timing out if you do not be active. just make sure you do not idle when here and you will find that stops, also being one the page showing current active users helps keep you logged in as it auto refreshes often enough you stay active even if you are looking at other pages in a different window.

I see all the answers and believe them but that doesn't explain why at times when replying to a PM I will get dropped out. Does it not recognize a PM activity as what is needed to keep you logged in? Is PMing considered as being idle?

Funny you should mention that, just the other night I was typing my little fingers to the bone on a PM. When I went to send it I got a database error message. It said "click here to resend" but it was all gone by then.

Could these be systems probs caused by all us seedy charaters hanging around too much?

I have had that same problem and I do think it is because if you are taking a while to compose a message or post the server does not recognize you as active. I do a lot of long replies to messages or posts in word first then copy and paste them or just keep the page open with the active members on it so I stay logged in.

Oh sorry I assume everyone uses tabbed browsing, you can do this in either ei or firefox not so sure about other browsers. If you right click on any link in the site and choose either new window or tab then you open a page in the site while keeping the old one open. That way you can have as many pages open as you wish at the same time. You can also go file, new window or tab and then open a new page to the site from there as well. Either way works. I hope that made more sense, I find I often browse several sites at once that way.

I do use tabbed browsing for multiple sites but wasn't aware of multiple tabs for the same site. Even with multiple tabs open for this site wouldn't one still have to make a post in one of the tabs in order to not get dropped out while typing a lengthy PM?

Again, thanks.

The active members page is the page the shows who is on line and what they are doing. Go to the bottom of the forum and look for the "What's going on" Section. The section immediately following that is for "Currently Active Users." Click on the "Currently Active Users" words and it links you to a page showing who is doing what. This is the page that auto refreshes (or at least that is my understanding) that will keep you signed in.

http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/online.php

I also use the chat screen to keep me logged in as well. Although I seldom have the problem even when I don't have an active page open. *shrugs* Sorry, not sure I have any other suggestions!

I can be in chat and then go to profile perv and be logged out and have to resign in anyway lol

Just little things that if you let bug you, will ;) The age old saying "Don't sweat the small stuff" comes to mind :D

Truly if the worst of our problems is having to relogin, then it's all going pretty good, yes? hehe

My concern lately is this random page that pops up while typing....

okay, so i joined the academy about a month ago, but i'm totally confused and overwhelmed. i'm not generally stupid or computer illiterate, but i can't figure out where i would be offered and get a chance to accept a task (it has happened once, but it was pretty much an accident that i found it). i JUST found out tonight that i hadn't registered for the library and got in, then ended up in the main chat room, but it didn't seem the place to ask what to do (sorry to the folks in there, i didn't mean to be unfriendly!). are there...directions, guidelines, in the technical sense anywhere? any advice is much appreciated.
peace!

Hello Emma and welcome, the FAQ (http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/faq.php)link and this link (http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25)may be a good place to start as was mentioned before, and there is a lot of info in this thread too. If you come to chat please ask for help if you need it we are all happy to answer questions here. I am also happy to help you if you send me a pm or if you see me in chat ask me there too,. The academy is separate from this part of the site and if you have trouble there you should ask MistressNev the Academy Administrator or read the FAQ forum in the acadamy. Good luck and welcome.

The drop problem is a real concern if you write a post more than a paragraph, or read a story to review. Even a short tale makes you re-log again and again. This NEVER happened in the past; you could stay on for hours, reading and reviewing story after story. And the site was free then, too. Without all the ads as well.

Lots of former heavy posters no longer attend, due to the constant problem of re-logging in. That is something that CAN be changed... or it would have been the same here before.

Can you take this to heart, as a truly constructive post, and take some action?

Torq
06-29-2008, 06:41 PM
Odd since new server have gotten just the opposite comments,,huh,, Try making sure you have checked the "remember me" box,, that seems to be a definite link to being "booted" Keep cookies cleared and if running windows xp or older make sure your "allowed' cookies setting is above 4,000. With windows vista its mainly getting cookis clear, As far as story posters the count has never been Higher, processing 10-15 stories DAILY! And long posters in Forums still there to look at the post count and writers area! Why does this "drop" happen to ""Select"" members UNKNOWN!!
