:confused:Hi all,
I dont usually post but I am in a bit of a pickle... I have met someone... and I need something to call him. In the circle that I see him in we call him Fish, as it is a part of his last name. He does not want me to call him that in our personal conversations. I need something to call him. I dont know if I am at the point of calling him sir..
Are there any other terms of endearment... other terms of respect that I can use???
Thanks,
Kuri

This can be so personal between couples that it's hard to give an answer, but the first thing I that popped into my head is when I read this was, "so what's wrong with his first name??" It's more persoanl than the nickname everyone else uses for him, but not overstepping your comfort zone either.
To me, "Sir" is a general term of respect for Doms I have regard or affection for, so if he met that criteria for me referring to him as Sir would be natural without implying anything more. At the point we became something more, I would ask Him to provide me with His prefernce for a title. With my J, "Master" was a natural fit.

Amber,
Thank you for your thoughts... Yes his name Philip is much more personal. He refers to me outside you the social group as little one, and young lady. i would very much like to call him Sir as that is very natural for me, though i dont know if that would be too forward as this is very new and we are still sorting things out.

Ah, if it is natural for you at this point then I suggest simply asking him. Nothing wrong with saying, "I like that you call me little one, and I feel I should also have something special for you. Please think on it and let me know what you find acceptable." It allows him to be comfortable as well as the compliment of you asking in an endearingly submissive way. :) Good luck!
I agree with DowntownAmber, just ask him, that way he won't freak out when you suddenly call him 'Sir'.
I don't think he will have a problem with that, and maybe he will have his own suggestions for you to call him; perhaps he prefers 'Master' instead of 'Sir', or yet something else.

As just another voice in this mix.. how about calling Him "Duke" or "Earl", both convey positions of "being above one" while still being a 'real' name. *shrugs*.. just a suggestion. Best is to simply ask. - lil ash

how about Mr or Mr Fishwhatevertherestofhisnameis if not Sir is "there" for you just yet or just his first name?

I'm pretty new here so forgive me if I seem to take this a bit lightly. But how about his name and give it some time. Pet names seem to develop out of time, closeness and comfort...why are you rushing? Take it easy, let it happen.

Kuri, a more subtle way to broach the subject and mabey get him to tell you is to try slipping a "well what does Sir wish for me to call him"? into the mix, make sure to practice it first so it doesnt sound forced
Amber is right as rain here, its a very personal thing for most couples. One way or the other the two of you will have to figure it out together.
It does take two to tango

The name has to be comfortable for you to utter, but not too comfortable. What do you call your boss? Your grade school and high school teachers? Your father?
