Lately I had become quite despondent. This occurs whenever I suspect that the world around me and my life in particular, is becoming completely predictable. The possibility of all of my tomorrows being re-runs scares me shitless. Thankfully these gathering clouds of gloom were blown assunder today when I received the following e-mail:

Dear Author,

I want you to include helpless, religious, muslim women and girls in your next chapters.

Whoever you are, may Allah bless you and may no sand be too deep for your camel!

I want you to include helpless, religious, muslim women and girls in your next chapters.

It would be difficult to write anything that could compare to the real life stories of Muslim women in the Balkans over the last ten years. If you need inspiration just look up old news stories from Bosnia or Kosovo.

I was not thanking anyone for a storyline. The only thing I found inspiring in that e mail was its utter absurdity.

Not having any religion myself, I never deal with it in any form or fashion in my writing. With a single exception, I would not understand what I was writing about.

I was raised in a Cath-o-lick prison that masqueraded as a school. I traded them my religion for an education. At times I am tempted to mine that rich lode of raw material. Especially when the tip of some new 'ugly' emerges from the holy water they have submerged it in. Fortunately other authors are shining the light of truth into those sewers saving me the chore.

The email was absurd, but it was more than that.

I would have found it very disturbing if I had received it.

People never cease to astound me.
