I am looking for the perfect strapon. I have two but they are the cheaper rubber/latex styles and that is fine but I want something of really good quality. I found one online that is leather, is that healthy? Can you clean it well enough, or does the germs leak into the pores? If anyone knows of any good sites or places to find a nice harness and dildo, let me know.

That is a very good question. I am pretty sure that leather CAN be cleaned (especially treated leather) so I would assume that leather would be no worse to deal with than any other material. However, I really don't know for sure and I am glad you asked. Now, let's just hope someone that knows replies. My guess (and it is only a guess) is that treated leather would be fine because it would not be as porous as untreated leather and could be cleaned easier. But some other material is flimsy and irritating and I understand where you are coming from. Some materials are just not very comfortable and with hard use can be flimsy and also create 0ther irritations. So, the material for the belt is even very important. I am so glad you asked this question.

Actually…. Leather is not easy to maintain if you let it get into contact with bodily fluids. The best you can do, without damaging leather is to wipe it clean with hydrogen peroxide right after use. That would apply to a harness of course. If you have dildo made out of leather you will be safe only by using condoms on it (use non-lubricated and double it up just in case). Leather will absorb the moisture and/or any bodily fluids much better than latex or plastic.

I could be wrong here, Eva, but I think the first two posters were refering to the harness that holds the dildo in place being leather, not the dildo itself. Certainly that wouldn't change your care tips, but it does mean that the quantity of fluids the leather is exposed to would be much less. The sturdy and non-stretchable nature of leather makes it an excellant choice for a strap-on harness, IMHO.

Good Vibrations (http://goodvibes.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0102.exe?FNM=54&UID=2004101710142745&SKW=HA21) carries an excellent selection of strap-on harnesses and dildos. I have a leather harness, and I use rubbing alcohol on it before hand-washing it in mild soap and water.

Hope this helps!

No matter what kind of cleanser you use on your leather, just be sure to treat it with a quality leather paste like picards to ensure it lasts. I know folks you use a betadine mixture to ensure they kill the germs on it. thought it will stain light leathers.
