Well, I probably need a lot of advice, I jut don't know it yet!
My boyfriend and I have been engaging in kinky sex for a while, so when he brought home some pink furry ann summers handcuffs naturally I was pleased. Unfortunatly that same night they broke. We fixed them with pliers but they're still breaking all the time - they're just not robust enough. We have to go back to using knots and things, which can be tiresome sometimes. Another thing we're finding rather boring is the safety catch, its not really much of a thrill when you know you can just unclip them in seconds...
So, can anybody recommend me a not too expensive (we're both students) set of handcuffs which don't have a safety catch, or if they do its not *easy* to reach, that wont break under the slightest strain?
We've both had a look around, but I'd really like a proper recommendation from someone, instead of going with whatever google search comes up with.
P.s. we're based in the UK, in case that makes a difference to anyone/thing.
Thanks in advance! xxxx

Especially for someone new, I'd recommend against handcuffs and suggest leather restraints for a couple reasons:
First, cheap handcuffs usually don't have a double-lock, so can sometimes get tighter as you play -- if you don't notice it, this can be a bit dangerous to circulation. I also once saw a submissive break a wrist with handcuffs -- she was cuffed behind her back and fell backward unexpectedly. Her weight must have come down with the cuffs at just the right angle and fractured her wrist. Unusual, but one of the reasons I don't like handcuffs -- some images stick with you.
Second, having a restraint on each wrist is more versatile, because you can clip them together or spread the arms and clip them to something else.
If leather's too pricey right now, there are some reasonable velcro options:
This is a nice set for beginners ($59.95): http://www.extremerestraints.com/7-piece-beginner-bondage-kit--value-buy_1324.html
Or just a set of wrist/ankle restraints ($14.00): http://www.extremerestraints.com/ultra-beginners-bondage-cuffs_2617.html
Take two pair of the $14 ones and combine with a trip to Home Depot for some clips, eyebolts and light chain (hanging chandelier-type), and you can have a nice setup. Put eyebolts in your bed-frame at the corners and then use clips to attach the chain and the restraints. Very doable for the budget-conscious.
One thing about the velcro restraints is that they can rip if you pull hard enough. I used to use them because they're quick and easy, but my kitten ripped the d-ring right off them, so we switched to leather exclusively. Then she snapped the leather band, so we switched to leather with metal grommets on the buckle holes.

Our first set of "cuffs" were a set of matching small dog collars with the plastic clips on them easy to attach to things easy on, easy off and really easy on the pocket book, i picked them up at a dollar store, Good luck!

we bought a "hogtie kit" from the local adult toy store. It has 4 cuffs that velcro closed, with snaps, and d rings. And it had a D ring with snaps to connect them to. (we don't use it much, the resulting hog tie is entirely too loose) I have yet to pull the velcro off just by struggling, and when tied stretched out, I can't reach the clips or the velcro. But they're comfy, strong, and most importantly safe because one grap and pull lets him release me in a hurry (our families choose the most inopportune moments to knock on the door)
good luck finding some you like!

Outside of hand cuffs and rope, my owner has allways made his own restraints for me or had them made at a leather shop.
Most of the ones we find in sex shops or have ordered by delivery may have been more athetically pleasing to look at or wear to a fettish ball etc, but they all too often lacked the sturdiness required.

I actually hand made my first set of cuffs, some sewing and newbie leather work producing a nice and sturdy set of denim fabric white rabbit fur lined wide wrist cuffs with D-rings for tying.. gave them to my Sir as a gift to break in during my collaring session. He was quite pleased. I thought it was wonderfully ironic that by the sweat of my brow and blood of my pin pricked finger tips I made the restraints that bind me.

My pet and I use a pair of real police issue handcuffs when we play. They are double locking so that they will not tighten on her. For safeties sake the key is always attached to them. If our play is going to be particularly rough I will wrap her wrists in a layer or two of leather first for some padding. I also refrain from cuffing her hands behind her back because i want her to be able to easily unlock them if something heavy falls on me, or I pass out from the pleasure she gives me. ;)
