Hoods - what do they do for you?

I was wondering how others felt about the use of hoods in a scene.

When Forge places a hood on me I feel more "free" to be naughty (in a kinky sort of way). Although we have been married for over 22 years, for some reason I feel less inhibited when wearing the hood.

Basically, what I want to know is;

From the submissives - Do you enjoy the use of a hood in a scene and if one does get placed on you, how does it make you feel?

From the dominants - Do you enjoy using a hood on your sub and if so, what is the purpose? Do you want her/him to feel more like a toy? Do you want her/him to feel humiliation?

I am not sure why, but hoods scare the hell out of me. They make me totally freak out....(not exactly sure how hard of a limit they are) and I am not especially interested in exploring it....and would be perfectly happy to never have to deal with it in my relationship. Maybe its because they are so dehumanizing and I am marginally claustrophobic, I don't know.

I too feel like liberated from inhibitions when i'm blindfolded. Touch, hearing and smelling become more important and the corresponding sensations more intense. And that's just great, imho.
And finally there is the effect of feeling much more helpless when i'm blindfolded.
So, to sum it up, being blindfolded rocks, and i think i would love being in a hood even more. *drools"

For me i have never used a hood per sa, but blindfolds are my favorite. I feel like when im wearing a blindfold i can see no one, therefore i feel more "free" as you say. I always liked no knowing that they can see me but i cant see them, makes me put my guard down and makes me, like you, more hornier, and kinkier. I dont have to worry about them stareing at me, hell they can stare at all me want when i have a blindfold on becuase i cant see that they are. I feel less ashamed also, less dirty.

as for hoods, i dont like the way they look, on me. So i wouldnt like to explore those anytime soon lol.

The only reason that I think I would not like having a hood used is because I feel suffocated when ever anything is covering both my mouth and my nose. I would probably panic and ruin the entire scene. This is not a hard limit for me, but I have warned Master about the possible side effects. We will probably not be using a hood. It's not something he's particularly into, so i doubt it will ever come up.

People seem to have a rough time with hoods! My sub is the same way.

She loves blind folds, but is so uncomfortable with anything that covers her nose that we can't have any fun with it. Definitely a hard limit.

Yes, I so enjoy being hooded. For me it is not so much the loss of inhibition but more the sensory deprivation and dehumanising effects. Like a blindfold it makes other senses more sensitive but even more so for me...

I could easily panic in a hood, but I don't, quite. I rely utterly on my Master - he has to be very attentive and seriously guide me and keep me safe. I feel reduced to just his; what else can you be when you're so isolated and dependent? It can be a very intense interaction.

I don't like to use a hood on my subs. I prefer to see their face. I will sometimes use blindfolds so that they cannot see what is coming at them, but I can still see the play of emotions across their face.

A number of responses here mention the dehumanizing aspect of hoods (and I'm aware that dehumanizing is used here only in a transitory way). I don't like to dehumanize my subs. Even during a scene, I get more pleasure knowing that they are sentient and aware of what is transpiring.

There is no doubt this would be an extreme hard limit for me but an understandable one. I have enough problems with asthma
and bronchial disorders in which I cough uncontrollably to the gag stage. On top of that is something I developed a few years
ago called vasovagel syncope in which, during this uncontrollable coughing fit, I literally cut off the blood supply to my brain and
pass out. (Knock yourself out take on a new meaning, doesn't it?) And I don't do this just once. It is a recurring, repetitive thing.
When I have a bad bout of this I am swigging down codeine (cough medicine) like it's water.I therefore have a horror of anything
coming near my mouth or nose that might contribute to these problems and over which I have no control. I would be too afraid
all this would happen and I would choke on or drown in my own vomit before anyone realized what was happening and did
anything. I don't even like to look at pictures with hoods in them. HUGE TURN-OFF.

I have to say I absolutely love playing with hoods. The stripping away of identity, the lowering of the sub to 'object' status is its appeal. I'm not really into creating claustrophobic panic, and I understand those responses. I think to me, it is that hoods are so beautiful, so visually erotic (most of them at least) and have a wonderful utility. If you think you might like to try playing with hoods but are a bit way, get a lycra one first. It breathes and allows much light to pass thru, plus you can add blindfold or gags if you wish.

I think I really become extremely fond of them when my Owners would place me in a confinement hood each night at bedtime.

Thats an interesting point about this and any limit that is based on a psychological response to something. It is possible to overcome fears like this with careful and controlled experimentation in a safe environment. It is possible to start small (put on hood for a minute or less while a Dom/me reassures and comforts and is prepared to take it off if you are concerned) and build up to longer periods in small steps.

Interesting point. I had never really considered how hooding might appeal to some subs. Given what has been said here, it is something I'd certainly bring up with any sub I had in future.

However, to me hooding is not sensory deprivation. Sensory deprivation would encompass a hood or blindfold, but it would also include earbuds to eliminate ambient sound, heavily perfumed candles to mask smells, hot spices to overload taste, and hands encased in thumbless mittens. (This is something I've thought about, but never had an opportunity to practice.)

ok i have looked at this post a few times and something keeps bring me back to it...

i fear a hood .. on me but more so on my Master .. maybe because i can't read him .. might be silly i know.. but not to be able to see his facial reaction scares the living daylights out of me... sighs but that is half the turn on... i fear it... if i tell the whole truth .. Well that and the smell and taste of the leather of the mask.. i melt to leather ..blushes...

As far as on me i am with most ..it takes away and i feel contained out of control... i also find fear in the fact he can't see my facial expressions because in most cases it is a lot of the time how i show dislike to something.. .. i can take a lot and stay perfectly still and quiet if Master wants me to.. {or if i am mad and get bull headed .. and refuse to show it}.. but my face tells the story... with it hidden he can't read me as well either .. which scares me..

The one WyldWyl my Sir uses online as a form of disipline scares me even more .. the only hole is at the mouth with a tube running from it so he may cut off air as seen needed fit.. one like that i don't think i could ever wear in real life..just out of plain fear... i know what it does to me just with online disipliine and that is bad enough.. i definately learn from the use of it..

maybe that's inexperience talking but i wouldn't at this stage be remotely comfortable losing that feedback.

My Master couldn't see my face, nor I his - so he held on to me and made sure I could hear him and he gave his instructions calmly and guided my physically. Just for a short period of time but it heightened awareness and deepened my submissive dependence on him; and I'll bet he loved the control.

The sounds that are made can tell tales as well. (even gagged, subs can make noises to let their Dom/me know how close they are to reaching their limit....when to slow down, speed up, rest a bit, or even stop.

im going to take the diplomatic approach for once in my life.

There are really for me two ways of looking at the hood thing, personally i would freak if some on put one over my head. But at the same time i do winter mountaineering and cover my face not even leaving my eyes exposed.

i think it would depend on the circumstances it my hands are free and i know i can escape what would be round my head i would be happy.

However if i was bound and not in control then i would have a problem. If i ever submitted to anyone (not that, that’s going to happen) and they wanted to try it on me, it would have to be a slow gradual thing.

As a Dom the hood thing does really nothing for me and i don’t like them, but if a sub want to try it i would.

So i did talk about body language hun or well the lack of it when ordered or to stubborn and voice again the lack of.. Sir {WyldWyl } sometimes tells me the same no noice no movement..

You are more then welcome on teh dom/me wearing one .. i feel it needs to be addressed as well

an add on would be i don't like them on my Master as my ex would use them at times of severe punishment .. he reminded me of the executioner.. and that is just not a good feeling in any way shape or form
