Welcome to the site.

To my knowledge: Site provided pictures do not show in chat. One must use the browse feature to obtain an image from one's computer to use instead. Then one needs to log out and clear one's cookies and log back in which will reset something that makes the new avatar visible in chat. Also there is a difference between edit profile picture and edit avatar....the profile picture allways stays tucked into the profile page....the avatar shows your posts.
