To me this seems like a natural combination. Only now as I'm beginning to realize that it is not so common in the BDSM community at large as much as BDSM is part of the latex community.
So, I wonder is latex clothing a part of your BDSM lifestyle, and in what manner does it exhibit itself?

No, it's not. Pretty much because I dislike the smell and hate the feel of latex. I don't know why, it just sets my teeth on edge- oddly enough, I have the same reaction to a few different, non kink-typical materials as well.
But no. For me, leather, every single time.

Not my thing; my favorite material is cotton. So soft and versatile.

Well, I have always seen it as leather for the rich, PVC and latex for the poorer (though the latter can be really expensive) and normal clothes for a Dom/me who simply does not feel they need props to look dominant (I am looking at you, Jennifer... :) ).
Seriously, I think many seem to assume that what you wear and what you do are all part of the same kink but in reality they are not. BDSM includes Bondage, Domination, Sadism and Masochism and you can do all of those in any dress at all. Wearing of latex or any other kink material is a different thing altogether - thats a fetish. There are people out there who ONLY wear latex clothes. That's their kink, thier fetish, but they have very little interest in anything else other than having sex while wearing latex. Some may endure other things such as Domination from (or Dominating) someone in order to compromise with someone who may allow them to fulfull this fantasy but they are still primarily fetishists.
So, my answer: latex is nice to look at (it gets used a lot in porn) it is sometimes less nice to wear (some enjoy it, some don't) it is certainly a faff to wear but it is not essential for BDSM. I am always interested in the differences between the sensual feel, look and smell of latex, leather and PVC.

I used to have some latex clothing. I loved the dresses and skirt I had, hated the panties...but it all became irrelevent. We have five cats. Between random cat hairs sticking to it and their sharp little claws..... it just doesnt stand up to the abuse my clothing needs to put up with. Rubber might work.. am looking at a rubber corset right now actually... but leather and fur for me is pure sensuality in a way that latex and rubber can't be.

Agreed... I don't like latex or pvc... it's just hm... 'sticky' to me you know what I mean? But I guess bondage tape is a type of latex and my Master and I use it all the time. So I that's how it fits into my lifestyle hehe
I love my corsets, I love my Japanese gothic lolita style and I love my ropework (see my avatar... though contrary to it, we don't do petplay lol)

Who, me? I am completely innocent; I don't know what you're talking about. Lots of things can be made of cotton: ropes, blindfolds, gags, sexy undergarments... I was just mentioning its versatility.
Also, I distaste the feel of silk, is anybody else in the same boat with me, or am I alone with that one?

I don't mind silk, depending what's made of it and what's being done with it.
But the reality is, BDSM isn't really about clothing. I have a leather vest that I like to wear when we're out on the scene, and sometimes to play in as well- but I don't use it all or even most of the time, and I don't feel any less dominant because of it.

I in the minority here it seems, but I love latex! Although my love of it is not so much about BDSM as it is about my love of dressing up and costumes. I like leather as well, but latex is just more fun to play with. I mean all the fun colors and options you get are great, plus there is liquid latex to play with too. I will occasionally wear latex when we are out at parties or clubs, but I'm just as likely to be in a petticoat and corset. For playtime we find latex often just gets in the way of things we both enjoy far more, like rope (ok maybe a pair of stockings now and then make the cut).

I'm with the majority, totally not into latex, pvc, rubber. Shiny, artificial, smelly and I hate that sweaty/clammy feeling in them.
The smell and feel of leather is just to die for, and I love the feel of fur, I just feel bad for the animals. I keep my rare purchases to things I'll use regularly and not get bodily fluids on.
Silks and satins I'm not that into, my mom had a lot of pajamas in those and the association is too strong. It's also kinda cold and slippery for me.
I do whatever victoria secret and other retailers make their stuff out of, along with some additions from the craft store. Looks good, fairly inexpensive and I don't want to feel bad for any bunnies, cows, snakes, minks etc while feeling sexy.

I find it interesting to see what is considered sensual/sexual to people. For me, fur is nice, but not a turn on. If tailored well it is very elegant, but IMHO, doesn't deal well with fluids. :)
Leather is about 5th in line for me and fabrics/materials I like.
Lace and rough fabrics are at the absolute bottom. Same for translucent ones.
But like I said, it's interesting to see what catches aperson's eye.

Well... I DO have a couple shoes in pvc (good for rainy days and they were really nice looking!) I also understand that pvc is good for playing in because it is easy to clean so ok to get fluids on lol

Is it against protocol of this board to out and out call someone a liar? I don't think so, especially if they're lying. Are you accusing me of something? *innocent face*
I find it interesting to see what is considered sensual/sexual to people. When you said this, it got me thinking about what materials make me feel "turned on," and I came up with spandex. Probably for the same reasons some people like latex; form-fitting yet flexible, but spandex breathes some and you don't get all sweaty in it.

Yep, Jennifer, there is a much larger fanbase for spandex. If they could make it able to be polished like latex and as smooth, it'd supplant it easily I think. Latex is all about the feel and the look for me. The downside is how delicate it can be from 'popping' by an errant fingernail or snag which destroys the garment usually. And sometimes how difficult it is to put on, which is what makes endurance wear so important. Not to mention its sensitivity to sunlight. Spandex conquers most of that, but it still is a weave and therefore a rougher texture.

i must be the only one then lol...i adore latex, not that its not without its issues, but its tight and shiny and feels erotic as well as catches the eye in the right circumstances.

You may not get sweaty wearing spandex.....but I get sweaty watching it!
