So, I have a question regarding blood play (obviously).

About two years ago, I quit cutting cold turkey. After six years and numerous attempts to stop, I actually succeeded in fighting that urge. Then, I met my current boyfriend who has some slightly vampiric tendancies. The didn't bother me because I like biting and everything.

We had known each other for several months before blood was exchanged. The little bit of blood play I'd tried before was more of a side-effect of cutting while I had Dom/mes that liked blood, but this was a deliberate try at it and I really enjoyed it.

Obviously, it's not something we do all the time, but it is a tool of our sex life. My question actually came about because of an arguement I was involved in when one of my friends saw the marks from our play. She's of the opinion that this is just a way for me to make cutting acceptable, but I don't think it is.

So, I thought I'd post on here and see what other opinions there are. I know that a lot of subs (and probably a fair amount of Doms) have a background involving self-harm. To me, cutting is very different than blood play. I was cutting because I was angry or hurt or scared, it was a way of coping with emotions I didn't want to examine. Blood play is pleasurable, it makes me happy to know I'm giving my Dom something he wants.

I hope I explained that clearly enough. Your thoughts?

Well there is in my opinion a big difference between cutting yourself (which is considered a common psychological symptom often associated with certain disorders) and participating in some blood play (vampire or otherwise).

This makes me think of an experience I had while in the hospital many years ago. It was just for a minor operation, but it was such a horrible place, which treated patients badly and humiliated them, and I felt awful a long time after having come home.

I had just begun bdsm experiences, and humiliation was part of it. It made me feel good, and free, and happy.

You see my point. Things may look or sound the same, yet be totally different. Only you know how they make you feel.

My Master and I participate in blood play. I did a lot of research on it prior to trying it. A lot of it was that it was a way for a Dom/me to take in their sub and vice versa. I too was a cutter. Mainly on my arms. So, when we decided to try it, we agreed that my arms were off limits. We prefer the area on my inner thigh right by my who-ha. And on Him, His chest was where I drank from. We took this as a firm of branding as well. I now have a scar where I was cut the deepest. It is only seen when I am in a bikini and when I'm asked Wtf, I use the excuse that I was climbing a fence and git caught :/... My cut did not heal straight and people rarely question my answer. My Master is into vapirism as well. It is not something we do on a regular basis. It's one of those erotic occasional things that we really enjoy. It is not the same as cutting. Cutting is an emotional and psychological problem to where blood play is a kink. Maybe try to do the play in a spot different from where you used to cut and one that isn't in plain sight of the people you interact with. I would say that if you insist that the blood play be done in an area that you used to cut in, you might need to self reflect on if you really are allowing it to happen based off of old habits. If you are able to try a new spot on the body, it may be better for you mentally. I know I didn't want old scars on my arms made thicker and noticeable.

Thanks scarlet.

You're probably right. My biggest problem is finding a place that I don't associate with cutting. Primarily I did it on my arms, but I also did it on my chest, legs, and my shoulders. It's just hard, but I can always tell when I want it because I want the cut or if I just want him to take my blood.

But your suggestion was very helpful :)
