I don't normally ask for help but I'm going to anyway.
I have a sub that I would like to brand but I am unsure of how it is normally done.
I have gotten conflicting information from people so I'm putting it to the masses, and I'll go with the general group consensus.

My 2 cents: If it really has to be, get someone to do it who actually knows what he/she does.

My brand altough very clear at first, faded into a scar like blemish after about 6 months and was more fun getting than keeping if you know what I mean.

The tattoo I got to replace it, is several years old now and still almost looks like its brand spanking new.

It is also much prettier than my brand ever was.

Originally branding was done with an iron. As denuseri said, the scarring usually faded or scarred in a weird pattern. Plus, burns are at high risk for infection. It would have to be something that you could care for. These days, most people prefer tattoos or even piercings. I have a scar that was created during blood play (touchy subject. I know) and even though the cut was completely straight, it did not scar straight. Cutting the sub for branding is also an option. In all honesty is was the option we were going to take. The one cut we made was kind of a tester... And it was for experimental purposes as well. When we saw the final outcome after healing, we decided that a tattoo was the best route to go. Also, as denuseri said, tattoos stay fresher and heal better given that you find a good artist. Ask to see their work. It never hurts to be too safe. I gave heard Doms says they felt tattoos as a brand isn't given by the Master (unless they're a tattooist) and it takes away from it, but I disagree. If you both agree on what's being tattooed, it still maintains its significance.

Nothing says a mark has to be made by the hands of the one holding dominion either.

This seems like quite a good opinion to consider and I agree wholeheartedly with it. I think a tattoo could serve pretty much the same purpose and be safer, cleaner and be more long lasting than a branding.

I think the best way to brand any slave is to use Cold Branding.
Hm that would be cool to test it on a slaves head or other place with hair.... ( the hair turns white)
