Hello,
I got a question from a newbie sub recently that I couldn't answer. He lives in a major metropolitan area (New York, actually), and has seen a lot of ads for professional dominas on places like backpage.com and so forth. is question, which I couldn't answer: are those safe? Does a reputable looking web site predict a safe, professional, and *discreet* environment? Is giving out personal information in advance okay to do?
Thanks in advance.

That's a yes/no kind of question. From what I've seen, most of the ones that actually advertise are, the biggest issue with that is finding out if they're actually Dommes or a hooker with a whip and some nipple clamps honestly. A wayto separate them is by the information they give you. These are the things reputable Dommes have in common:

-They ask you to meet in a public place at first (don't forget, their safety can be at stake as well)

-They'll probably ask your name/age/kink, but they wouldn't be asking for your social or a credit card number before you met them

-They'll have more than one option of where your session can be done. A lot of them rent play rooms at kink clubs or might ask you to book a room at a good hotel near you (if they suggest the local no-tell that rents by the hour, they probably aren't very good, a good one would know that paper-thin walls can be a problem)

-Their prices will be based on sessions (most will be an hour to start, some will let a second meeting go on for two)

Another way to find out is to talk to others in the local kink scene. If the Domme is legit, she's probably met the local players. If you come across one who no one has heard of, it might be best to pass it over for someone a little more well-known to your fellow kinksters. Also, look at any links on their sites, also contact the publications they advertisein and ask what sort of requirements they have for starting the add. If a Domme's advertising in the personals instead of with escorts, they might not be much of a Domme.

Just be smart basically. When it comes to personal info, a Domme wouldn't need to run a full background check (the one exception would be if sh was employed at a kink club or dungeon, but the club would be the one asking for that and the documents would be official) so giving a Domme your social security number wouldn't be the best idea because they wouldn't need it.

Hope that helps :)

I agree with what has already been said. I can' t comment about the USA scene but I know in my local scene many of the Professional Dommes are very active and known. Attend a local munch and ask around
