I have never done anything like this and am very curious ...looking for someone who can help me discover myself a little more...

"New" is normal and "curious" is good. "Very curious" is, well, very good.
Perhaps a useful starting point for the journey would be reflecting, a bit, about where you are now? What have you already discovered? How did you discover it? Were you surprised, appalled, delighted? Where do you think you'd like to journey?
Like you, others are shy. Perhaps it would serve you well to be (shyly) bold. Each time you visit, reach out. Look at the "Members who have read this thread," at the bottom of the page. you'll see your name and (currently) six others. Those include five doms (thunder262 is also new and also a bit shy) and one sub (lovelyandsad, one of the community's best authors and the proud possessor of a black soul). Send a private message to one of them each time. Thank them for reading and ask a simple question. you might be surprised by what you learn. At the bottom of the Library's name forum page you can also see who's currently online (148 guests, me and subserviant, a Canadian sub whose been visiting for a decade). Go poke her! Failing that, spend a bit of time in fun and games.
Remember, people are here because they want connection, not because they want isolation. In that sense, every name is an invitation.
