Being Remembered

I assume some of the readers here are also amateur authors, and have shared the same experience I had today. I just got an e-mail from a fan of one of my stories, posted on another site (without posting dates). He noticed that there hasn't been another chapter in many months, and requested one.
It's a wonderful ego boost to be remembered - I've been inspired to write another chapter just for him. Sending authors even a 2 or 3 line e-mail can be an inspiring thing; I highly recommend it, you never know what it will bring!

Does anyone else want to share their experiences?

I agree, a personal email is a big deal. I posted two stories and got a few reviews, which I appreciated tremendously, even if a couple were somewhat cursory. But even one of the smallest emails (two lines, I believe) gave me a huge boost, and indeed, will affect the continuation of my series.

Given my reaction to emails though, I've been quite surprised by the lack of response I get when I contact other authors - and when I email an author, believe me, I'm enthusiastic about their writing! Maybe they are inundated with positive emails. I nice problem to have!

I've often wondered if it is because many of them are females. I particularly love the f/f domme/sub genre, and admire quite a few female writers on this site. I've always assumed they get a lot of pesky emails from men, and I get lumped in with the rest.

I posted the beginning of something I wrote just to get it out of my head, and the next day, I was getting emails and PMs about it. Now I've written almost parts to it, and started two other pieces. The support is what's pushing me to continue, I'm addicted to it.

It is hard to write if I can't tell it's being read. I wrote my first story for myself and posted it on a yahoo group just for the hell of it and people liked it...so now I'm writing one here. I totally feed off of responses, good or bad. That counter is a fair indication on how may hits to the story page but not much more.
