~*~*~*~*~

Alura shivered in the cold night air. She crouched in the cage, wrapping her long blonde hair about her and huddled deeper in the blanket. Using her hair to cover herself in an attempt at modesty was long forgotten now. All she wanted was to stay warm.

It was hard to see --- not many stars were shining tonight and the campfires had long burned out. Their captors were sleeping now, though there were two on guard, their glares as fierce as any dragon's. They walked back and forth, occasionally stamping their feet in the chill in an attempt to bring back the circulation.

Occassionally, Alura would hear pleading from one of the other cages, though she couldn't see any faces. All of the forms were shadows, hunched like her, and shivering with reaction – as well as cold. The guards simply stopped and stared at whoever was making the noise and it would stop as abruptly as it had began.

Soft whimpers and quiet sobbing filled the night; the rustling of bodies beneath flimsy blankets the only sounds that the guards would allow.

Alura tried to remember how it had all happened, but much of it was a blur. She remembered being in her village, arguing with her mother about something; then abruptly, the sounds of screams filled their ears. Words were forgotten as they raced for the door.

The sight that met their eyes caused Alura's mother to faint dead away. Alura simply retched, unable to bear the sight of her father rent in two. His hand was outstretched, as though he had been running to warn them…to save them somehow. And instead, he had been cut down; slaughtered like some wild animal.

Fury welled up inside of her. She went back into the house and grabbed the machete; then she raced outside into the frenzied chaos of bodies gyrating in the dance of war. She rushed forward, swinging the machete; cleaving the heads from hapless bodies as she swang.

Then suddenly, everything went black.

When she woke up in the cage, she was covered with blood and still in shock. And when hands opened the door and pulled her roughly to her feet, she fought them, screaming in fury and rage, as they dragged her to the river and threw her in.

Seeing her chance for escape, Alura started swimming against the current, her arms and legs made strong by years of hunting and fighting. But the men merely laughed and dove in after her, their battle hardened bodies making short work of capturing her once again.

She fought them, kicking and howling, as they dragged her back to the cage. They laughed, throwing her back in roughly, not caring that her head struck one of the poles as she landed. She lay there, dazed; only half-conscious --- her body streaked with traces of dirt.

Three days passed. Each morning the men would lift the cages on giant poles with wheels and hitch horse to them and they would travel father eastward, towards the D'amlces mountains; father away from any hope of rescue.
-------------

Sunlight hit Alura's eyes, waking her. She sat up, stretching, her dirt streaked arms splayed wide, her mouth open in a large yawn.

She opened her eyes and closed her mouth abruptly.

Slavers!

(nice thread btw)

Namir's eyes softly flickered open, the cold air waking her, she shivered unpleaseantly and bit her lip to stop from crying out.. she did not want to think of what the men might do if she did that.

Coughing nervously she looked about the small cage she was in, the loose chain was still hanging about her neck. As she carefully shifted her weight the chain caught and tightened, choaking her. Gasping for breath she released the pressure on the chain, her eyes watering behind smoky lashes.

Long, silvery blond hair hung down her back as she wrapped he arms around her body to keep some warmth in, rubbing them at the same time.

Her torn clothing offered little protection, they were ripped all over and were about to drop off. She dreaded the thought of what would happen if you moved to quickly and they did....

Loud screams came from elsewhere and she let out a small, coaked sob, hopelessly alone she shivered and waited for the men to come back, and maybe feed her..

Alura huddled in her cage as they approached, trying to make herself invisible.

Their colorful, rich clothing, a contrast to their bleak surroundings, did not impress her much; because she knew what they were...and why they were there.

She heard a soft sob from the cage next to hers and turned her head, staring at the tiny blonde huddled there, under the covers. The only thing showing was her long blonde hair and a large pair of frightened eyes.

Her gaze suddenly met Alura's as an age old understanding passed between them. No words were spoken; for they were forbidden. But they both understood what was about to happen and clung to each other visually, trying to draw strength one from the other.

The sound of footsteps approaching broke their concentration and Alura turned, pulling the blankets over her head in an attempt to block out what was to come.

'Please god --- don't pick me.' She prayed fervently, but she knew that it was hopeless. In the village, her beauty had been a boon; making her quite desirable as a potential mate, but now, at this point in time, it was the greatest of curses. In that moment she found herself wishing that she had been born ugly, for at least, perhaps, unchosen, she would have been returned to her village or if not, been purchased as a servant rather than what she was surely intended for.

The footsteps stopped and Alura shuddered as she heard the creak of the cage door opening. A large hand grasped her arm through the blanket and hauled her to her feet. She backed up, pressing herself against the bars of the cage, shivering with reaction.

The man standing before her was young and beautiful, but his eyes were cold.

'She and the one in the cage next to her are the best of the lot, Master. We sent messengers to you first because we knew that you would be interested in these two.'

The man stepped into the cage, stalking Alura as she pushed backwards against the metal prison, wishing that somehow she had the ability to squeeze herself through the bars and escape.

"Bring her." He said abruptly, after inspecting Alura throughly. "But first, remove her clothing."

He stepped out again and went to the next cage. Alura knew that he would choose her new little friend as well, and this one thing brought her some measure of happiness, despite their circumstances. At least she wouldn't be alone.

The men grabbed her in a brutal grip, dragging her out of the cage even as she kicked and screamed wildly, attempting to elude them. Suddenly, she broke free and ran swiftly. She almost made it to the edge of the camp when suddenly, a powerful force hit her in the back and she fell forward, face in the dirt. A heavy weight pressed her into the ground cruelly.

"You will not do such things once you are in my service, little one. This I can promise you."

His voice was even, firm, and soft ---deadly soft. His knees left her back and she lay there, exhausted, unable to move.

"Remove her clothing now." He said softly

Alura tried to get to her feet again but his foot pressed her back into the ground and she couldn't move. Then hands were grabbing her and she was pulled to her feet.

They didn't even try to hold her down this time. They just ripped the shift from her body and left her, naked and trembling, trying to cover herself with her hair.

"A vain attempt, that." He said, standing in front of her with his arms crossed over his chest. "And a very foolish one as well. You will learn soon enough not to hide yourself from me."

Then he turned, motioning to the men to bind her. Alura didn't even fight them when they came. She no longer had the strength.

They tied her wrists behind her back and hobbled her legs so that she could no longer run from them. Then she was lifted and carried to her new home --- a bright gilded cage, which she knew was just her transport to a prison from which she would never escape.

She was locked in, with her new friend, and they pressed themselves against each other as the caravan began to move.

The coldness in his eyes haunted Alura until at last she found a way to escape from them in the comfort of sleep.

Namir shook like a leaf as she looked about.

Thoughts raced through her mind to escape, then she remembered the cane and the chains and froze, no, she did not want that... anything but that fate. Coughing in pain she doubled over, her coughs worsening, they had not fed her or her friend much and the little sunlight and movement was having a very bad effect on her already frail body.

Shivering in the cold air she could feel her nipples rise, when the men saw that, she shuddered at the thought. They may not have raped her yet, but she knew it would be coming soon, either that or she would be raped by the first person to buy her.

She had tried to fight them, but they had killed her friends before her, stabbing each one down one after another, with a small choaked sob she wished them well in the next life. The men had stripped her while she must have been sleeping, she hated the idea and shook more violently.

"Bitch?!" A cry came from outside the cage, now laid on the ground, her eyes snapped up, searching around for the voice, a soft chuckle came from others.

"Turn around." The man taughted, laughter coming form the others, seated round their fires. She span around, about to look when a strong arm clamped around her neck, sending her crashing back against the metal bars. They rang as she collided and let out a small cry as the laughter stung in her ears with the chiming metal.

"Please." She mumbled, drool rolling down her chin as he grabbed one of her arms through the bars and tugged at her little wrist.

"Did I say you could speak slave?" He chuckled.

"No." She sobbed, looking down, ashamed to bow down to this man.

"Then. why. are. you. talking." He tightened his grip on her neck and yanked her arm with every word, she cried out again. Looking at the other men for support. Only met by their learing faces, all enjoying the specticle she wept openly.

"Your going to your new home soon with our leader, won't that be fun?" He laughed cruelly, releasing his grip so she could let out a struggled breath.

"We'll be there by tonight once we've finished eating our evening meal we're travelling all night just so you can be there for him in the morning with your new friend. You'll like that won't you?" He yanked her round to look at the wide eyed young woman in the same cage as her, now sitting further away from the edge, fearing the same fate as Namir.

"Answer me!" He yelled when she didn't reply to him, she frantically struggled and wept. "I said answer me!" He shouted, pulling her wrist through the bars and bending it back bit by bit.

"Oh God, please stop." She pleaded softly,

"Then reply." Came his short answer.

She could feel her wrist snapping back, starting to sob hysterically at the sheer agony she muttered something; "Sorry.... ah... what was the question... please."

He growled in anger and shoved her forwards, she hit the ground in front of her and collapsed forwards. Lifting herself up by her knees she just stayed in that position, struggling for breath, bend over like an animal.

"You'll learn to obey." The man finished, strolling away, sadistical laughter filling the air.
