There are lots & lots of works in progress but some stories just seem to have been left for dead. One that springs to mind was The Orphan which just seemed to involve a young lad getting filled full of hormones so his guardian can, I assume, eventually have her wicked way with him.
It just dropped off (the story I mean), possibly due to unfavourable reviews...I always wondered where the author was going.
Any others that fall into that category?

There seems to be a few of them ---and yes I would say unfavourable reviews have a lot to do with it ---instead of encouraging new authors we seem to want to destroy them---remember all authors had to start somewhere and please be constructive in your reviews

Rabbit1,
I agree with you on the reviewers seeming intent on destroying new authors. There again ,some of the harsher reviewers,I seem to note, make a career out of writing harsh reviews, yet have never bothered to post any of their work in the Library(if indeed they have written anything to begin with). There is also the issue of certain readers engaging in name calling via e-mail.Hey,it's not like they didn't know the theme of this site and the stories to begin with.Adding in the fact that that each story has a set of code words and a brief description preceeding the stories. One would hope that these general and specific indicators would warn some of these name callers away from these stories and thus curtail this name calling and other such labels.
The two stories i posted in the library remain unfinished due to the fact that both these stories started life as "custom" stories, which are extensions of long held fantasies by two females. These two females were quite verbal in their correspondence for the early chapters, but as each story progressed, the correspondence either declined to one word feedback,i.e. "Wow","Nice",etc or
no reply at all.Hence, the stories are left in limbo due to the lack of feedback
from these subjects.
Certainly, i received quite a few e-mails from readers who liked these stories and in fact many encouraged later chapters. However, when i replied with a note of thanks and then asked then if there were any ideas they'd like to see in the story concerned there was little or no response regarding this inquiry.
I certainly do not intend to sound like this post is some personal rant, but rather an overview of the sort of things I have run into since the publication of my two stories.Rest assured,I do appreciate the high number of reads both works have received .I also appreciate those reviewers who were kind enough to be constructive in their reviews by suggesting what I could do
to improve my writing.

I agree with that --or ones who have never tried writing anything in their lives-so they have no clue of what it takes ---they just know what they like and dislike

I like your buddy's quote as it indeed relevant to my original post. There again,i often wonder if indeed some these have ever written anything beyond these reviews.Sort of like thay don't mind eating the bread and then complaining about it,but they sure as heck have no idea how to make the bread!

After I posted my first story I kept getting IMs from my readers into regards to my lifestyle. I found this annoying. Many think that these stories are true and fail to realize that these stories are fantasies. Some may have real experiences but most of the stories are fantasies. Since then I have taken my IM information off my profile so I don't get IMs from readers. It's not that I don't want to be friendly and communicate but I don't want to be inindated by readers. I have had some very good reviews. WAY more readers than reviews but that's ok. I am just glad that those that read my story and gave a review liked it. Although I am always looking for ways to improve my writing.
Ok so this wasn't about the unfinished stories but some writers might just get like I did but instead of taking a step to keep readers from bothering them they just decided to not finish what they started so they would be left alone...what do you think? Ok I don't beleive that either; but hey, if we are speculating.....

I used to get beat up (elsewhere) for criticizing grammar and spelling... (because they detract from the reading experience...) so I don't critique anyone anymore.
I just say whether I liked the set up or not.... of course it's easier to read if I don't have to differentiate between
heals/heels
they're/there/their
pail/pale
and other interesting hominyms. LOL

Ozme52...I promise not to "beat you up" if you were to critique my writings...although don't leave it for everyone to read...PM me or email me. I do have a story at the library if you would like to read it.

While personal taste does have a lot to do with a critique, it should not, necessarily be the overwhelming factor in the story.
Personally, I dislike snuff, pedophile and incest staories. If I do decide to read one I do not allow those factors to come into play in my review. If it was a well told story I review it that way. Otherwise, Lex Ludite and Mad Lews would get big fat zeros when I read their stories.
Frankly, I post because I want critisism. I want to improve. The only way to do that is to step back and hear what other people say. So, I am with you, Ozme. Feel free to trash any of my stories - hammer on the grammatical errors and context issues. Do what you have to do. I want the reviews.

HDean,
Your point is ceratinly well taken and I fully respect it .To refine my points earlier,it is those reviewers who seem to make a career of noncontructive
trashing type reviews that I have a real problem with. These professional trashers do nothing to encorage further contributions from the authors.
I have never had a problem with those that suggest I could do a better job in the grammar, punctuation department. But as I have pointed out in earlier posts,I do not allow these grammatical matters to block my writing of stories.
I know some reviewers are academics or have advanced degrees in English
and sorry to say they enjoy an advantage I wish I had as far as grammar
and the like are concerned.I well remember over the years in various composition classes in school and college, the great frustration of being told to write as I talked, yet when the compositions came back, they were often covered in red ink.Yet I had followed the very instruction to -write as you talk.Go figure

I agree with this as long as you are just not out to totally destroy the author--I mean if the story has merit --you could always say ---I enjoyed the story and I suggest you get a proof reader to help make it more enjoyable ---or you may just need to use spell check ---because the spelling errors in your story distract from the story itself---there is no need to just tell an author that his or her story is shit ---that they wasted their time writing it ----hey they are publishing their stories here for you to read for free---if they all were pros you would have to pay to read them---so cut them some slack as they are learning and constructive criticism--should be welcome.

Sorry to admit this, but I'm one of those authors who haven't finished a couple of my stories. I get writer's block and deal with it by taking a break, then work on a short take, or start a new story. Then, I get motivated and inspired to add another chapter to an existing story. It's not a recommended method, but it works for me.
Also, shoulder surgery can put a real cramp in productivity.:bondage:
Thanks to those of you whose emails have cheered me up. You've encouraged me enough to do some hand editing...(with my right hand.):hubba:
Hope to post some updates soon! I needed to see this thread. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

I'm the same writers block is a killer just lately. But instead of starting a new story or short take I move on to the next chapter (Not always possible but I've got a good idea where I want the story to go.) At the moment I've got three chapters started but not finished.
One minor pet hate on critics that say my spelling is wrong just because the words are spelt different in the USA to the UK.
Hopefully the writers block will lift soon so i can get the next chapters posted.

A buddy of mine always says that harsh literary critics are usually failed authors.
This is cliché and it is not true, not as a rule. You can check on number of acclaimed literary or movie critics who do not write themselves – and they can be VERY harsh and mean.
However if one makes a habit of writing bad reviews or picking on certain authors…. That is another matter.
Fantazmaster, in my experience many non pro writers say they will love to get ‘constructive trashing’ but when they get one … hey are not happy with it at all. Unless it says what they want to hear. But detailed review of any kind means someone had taken time to REALLY read the story and that to say something on it.
Please, all of you who write: do not stop writing (and posting) because of the comments. Enjoy WOWS and occasional positive feedback! And ignore pointless reviews and personal comments and silly IMs. That is also artists’ lot …:cheerlead

Well it goes back to why you really write---I write because I enjoy it and hope someone else might also ---I have had bad review--not on this site because the only story I have here was a contest entry---but it would not have mattered to me if I had. I basicly write for me, what I like and when I want. I do not get caught up in errors ---hey my story does not look the way I sent it ---I typed it in 12pt and it shows in 14pt. --- or hey they made an error publishing the chapter number ---and spelled chapter wrong---
I write because it is fun for me to write--if no one like it ---oh well ---I do use spell check ---and try for good grammar ---but hey ---this is a free story ---if you do not like it you lost nothing reading it. Oh yes I like positive comments ---who doesn't but I do not let the negitive ones bother me at all.
I do hope I will get some time to write some stories and publish them here -- but until then I am content with reading and publishing other's stories .

I must admit to being in two minds when I review a story. I'm keenly aware that I have no work on display here; the person I am reviewing has at least been published that far, which is more than I.
But at the same time, how can I be less than honest about what I see? I have a strong knowledge of the English language, and a love of the literary. So, I speak my mind.
I am occasionally harsh. I am occasionally brutal. But I am always attempting to give good advice, and I am always honest.

just a few things I have to say on that note--one is not evey writer's first lanuage is english ---and second of all this is sex stories mostly peoples fantasies not a literary library. so you can be brutal if you want ---but hey lets lighten up some are just begining to write---if you are too brutal then it may be the last they write. If you expect perfect Literary stuff you might want to check out some pay sites---yes I think authors should use spell check---and even a proof reader---but get real with your brutal Literary comments---and use them on a Literary site where the Pros get paid for their work.
