I enjoyed it a lot but it didn’t completely satisfy. (This is not a criticism, just a point I’m wondering about.)
What I’m wondering is the difference between Porn and Erotica? I like more story not just sex. Does that mean what I enjoy is Erotica?

Has to be my favorite at the moment.
I enjoy the back story as much as the sex if it’s well written. I can deal with almost anything but Snuff as long as it has a little romance. Could that be the real thing I need in a story to be sated is romance? Hummmm. Maybe romance is even not exactly right but at least the worship of one for another.
I’ve learned not to expect happy endings but must admit I much prefer them. Even if the happy ending is the victim chained to her/his master/mistress’s bed in complete joyful surrender.

In general, "erotica" is used to imply artistic quality, sensuousness, or implied sexuality, whereas "pornography" tends to signify explicit sexual acts.

There are a number of essays out there on the subject. For me the short version involves the writing style. Are we reading about the senses and emotions of the people being described or is it more, insert stick A into slot B?

About plotting...

I think that well written PWP story - that's "porn without plot" or "plot, what plot?" can be very erotic.

I was nervous about sounding a bit full of myself, but I really am curious about this subject. No one knows I write this stuff in real life. They know I write racy vanilla romances. (Giggle) It's nice to have someone to talk about this subject with.

I really do enjoy some PWP, but it leaves me feeling like somethings missing. It's a quick snack instead of a meal. Hummmm, food and sex, interesting.

When looking for adjectives to use in my own writing I ran across a website called darkerotica - http://darkerotica.blogspot.com/
According to them the difference between erotica and romance is that sex has to drive the plot in erotica and not just be thrown in gratuitously, if the sex isn't necessary to tell the story, then it isn't erotica.
I found this very interesting and useful for myself.
As for the difference between porn and erotica, I agree with Ruby and think that is a more personal opinion.

I know what you mean about having lots of unfinished stories. I have about 5at the moment, but have had more. I tend to get a great idea, type away and then think - oh, how do I end this. I am struggling with one story at the moment. I almost feel like making the ending like a choose you own adventure and then follow up with what people what to read. Mind you, then you would never be able to please everyone. ;)

I am starting to appreciate more stories with what would be termed romantic elements in them, but still like a more full on tale as well. I even to try to write both types.

I have to agree. I don't always like the whole content of a story but if there is some romance in it I almost enjoy it on some level. Maybe it is a female point of view on the stories.

I wonder if men feel the same way about the content of the stories or if they prefer the stories to just get right to the action.

I can say, speaking from a man's point of view, that romance in a story has its place. I do enjoy it if it is presented properly. However, there do tend to be differences in men and women when it comes to erotica. Men tend to like more descriptive sex than women. Women tend to enjoy less descriptive sex and more description on the motives and emotions.

My preference is to have a little more emotional description and slightly less descriptive sex than most men. However, I will definately tend towards more descriptive sex than emotion, given my druthers. I will also tend to enjoy the stories labeled as NC as oposed to a tale labeled "Romance" or "Consensual".

Another factor is the NC or Modification coding. I can get romance and consensual sex in my life. I don't think I will ever have those NC or Modification fantasies in my life. I don't read erotica to find what i already have/have had. I read it for what I don't/won't have. And I think that is the main factor in what I enjoy.

I also tend to gravitate to stories that I would never do or want done to me in real life. With most stories there is almost always something I will like on one level or another as long as I can identify somehow with a character or a scene.

For the most satisfying stories though I still need to feel somehow an emotional connection.

I was suprised when I could read the stories by 2nn. His writing style made it possible to connect with the characters even with the extremely harsh actions.
If I'm not emotionally interested in the character by 200 words I just close it and go on to the next.

Any other men want to tell us what they think. :)I failed to note that one of my preferences in a story - romance based - is to have the romance up front and the details coming later. That is, the motivation of the characters is what draws me into a tale. However, if the details aren't there after the motivation and characters are established, I do not find much thrill in a story. This is how I attempt to write, as well. I offer more details and less motivation as the story progresses. Belaboring the motivations and the romance by instilling it into every scene is not particularly enjoyable for me, nor is it realistic. Sometimes we make love and sometimes we fuck.

Incidentally, it might be nice to hear what you all think of *my latest offering to the BDSM Library. It is an effort with *Aussiegirl to create a true romance based story that integrates BDSM. It made the list today, the 10th of July and is submitted under her name.

GiggleAh, it's done. We are just in the editing stages. After we got the story done I began editing it in parts and sending it to her for a final edit. I just sent her part 2 for her edit and she will submit it from there. I already started editing the third part and may be finished in a day or so and will be able to give it to her for the final edit.

Jess, I appreciate you getting to the story and reviewing it. Glad you like it. I just hope the rest doesn't disappoint. Aussiegirl has become a pretty damned good author and her style really lends to this sort of tale.
