Ever met a Scotsman and thought you might need subtitles?

Nevermind Edinburgh, try Dundee, Aberdeen and the wonderful speak of Glasgow

Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody as it would be sung by a Native Glaswegian:

GLASWEGIAN RHAPSODY

IS this the real life? Is it the methadone?
Stuck in the Gorbals, wae nae credit in ma fone
Open yer wine an talk wae a whine like me
Um jist a Weejie, gie us yer Sunny D
Coz al chib yer pal, rip yer Da,
slash yer dug,ride yer Ma

Anyway the Clyde flows disnae really matter tae me, tae me

Haw Maw, jist chibbed a bam
Buckie boatle tae the heid, noo the fuckin bastards deid
Haw Maw, ahm jist oan parole, an noo ahm headin back tae Barlinnieeeeee

Haw Maw, oooooh oooh
Didnae mean tae steal yer purse
But if ahm no full a smack this time the morra, carry oot carry oot
An we'll go oot on the batter

Too late, the pigs ur here
Sends shivers doon ma spine, gubbed 10 jellies jist in time
Goodbye aw ma muckers ah goat tae go
Got tae go an chib some wanker up the scheme

Haw Maw, oooooooh oooh
Ahm a jakey bam, u sometimes hink ahv never been washed at aw

ah see a little silhouetto o a bam
Adidas, adidas, can ye get us a kargo?
Thunderbird, whitelightening, very very frightening to me

Twenty Mayfair, twenty Mayfair, twenty Mayfair and some skins
Magnifico oh oh oh

Ahm jist a fat boy naebody luvs me, he's jist a fat boy fae a fat family
Spare us a pound fur a wee cup a tea

Get tae fuck skanky slob will u get a job?
Fuck sake ah willnae get a job
Get a job
Willnae get a job
Get a job
Willnae get a job
no no no no no no

Oh gonnorrhoea, gonnorrhoea, gonnorrhoea and the clap
Then doon the pub has the barman put aside for me, for me, for meeeeeeee?

So ye hink ye can slash me and pish in ma eye?
So ye hink ye can chib me an leave me tae die
Haw Bawbag, can't dae this tae me Bawbag
Jist wait til ahm oot, wait til ahm rite oot ma nut

Fuck aw really matters any prick can see, fuck aw really matters, fuck aw really matters tae me
Any way the Clyde flows.......

This is for every Scot I have loved

Aye, that character was Begbie (actor Robert Carlise), and he was (surprise, surprise) portraying a Glaswegian.

I moved to Scotland 11 years ago and I still get that yummy feeling when I hear most of the accents. And let us not forget Sean Connery - an Edinburgh man and of course, Billy Connolly.

I find abbrasive and harsh accents (including German, Russian, Bulgarian, etc.)to be simply divine and erotic

LOL. I experienced the same thing, but i found that i had to concentrate throughout the movie or i'd lose the ability to understand the dialogue. (says the guy with the southeast US accent) "yall youngins take the polk over yonder and dont fall in the crick. Aint no reason for yuns to be fallin in no crick!"

My dear Q,
The auld age question lies in the pronouncation of that delicious cake, is it:
Scone (rhymes with 'bone'), or
Scone (rhymes with 'non')

If I ask for a Scone (bone), no one serves me unless I say it the Scottish way - I love it!

Asia my lovely lady,

Were you from Morningside (posh bit of the fair city of Edinburgh) you may well say scone as in bone, but my granny was a domestic science teacher and a fine maker of the scone and she lived in Newton Mearns (posh bit of the perhaps not so fair city of Glasgow) and she and the other guild ladies said scone as in non.

Accent is a funny thing here in Scotland, i agree that a good Scottish burr really makes me purr but having moved further north of late the way that some people this way talk affects me like sandpaper to my face! I have found myself having to walk away from conversations because the grating sound is too much!

Give me a west coast lilt anyday!

Hurrah - clarification at last!
Reside in Auld Reekie (worked at the REH in Morningside many years ago) but mostly work in Glasgow now (the reason this post was started!) My man is from D&G (shivers at thoughts of West Coast accents)- harsh enough to get me excited at 'tha nicht hen' *smiles*

Here is a slightly sensible question!

Is it just a Scottish phenonemon that when using the past tense of jump we say jamp instead if jumped?

I tried for years to justify this to my parents by using the example of come/came but it doesn't really work properly - but i loved saying it to them! "today i might come, yesterday i came" *sniggers like a wain*

Is this national or even international?

Just you, slave-number!

I've never heard that in any Northern English accents, which tend to be pretty wacky. But the good thing about your tenunous use of grammar is that if the thought of licking jam off someone makes you damp, and encourages you to jump someone, then that's jamp all over.
