View Full Version : Sunset and Moonrise

Last night I missed you as I watched the sunset,
Blood red in the burning sienna sky,
And watched it slowly sink behind the gorse gashed moors,
Loss clawed at me tearing and tight,
Until tears pressed from the eyes that had been so dry, bitter and scalding.

I remember walking with you here in happier times,
When life seemed so endless,
And death was just a wicked tease, sent to disrupt our contentment,
That we placed firm behind us and did not turn to see,
Maybe we didn’t dare..

We climbed the hills one balmy summers day,
And looked down on the world at our feet,
Feeling like giants as ants crawled below,
We were proud, we were happy, our smiles reflected in each others eyes.
Gone now till we meet again, someday, sometime, somewhere.

But even as I mourned the moon rose high, helping me to see,
A gentle mellow light soothing and softening the jagged edge of grief,
And in its fullness I saw your face, watching over me,
And in a sighing breeze that dried the tears,
I heard the wind whisper your words.

“Still here, though not here, still with you my dear”,

And as I saw its reflection in the mirroring lake, all became clear
We are still somehow together as long as you are in my heart.
