Swimming Lessons

Behind closed eyes
I like to swim.
Do you?
Together we could soar
Swimming with angels
Any sense of time
lost and forgotten-
Free.

But the freefall always comes too soon.
Unexpected. Gasping for air.
Jarring us back to here and now-
With a thud.

Where screams are real.
Barely heard through closed doors
Muffled by the night sky.
Carefully placed scars -
Hidden behind lying eyes.

One day I hope the landing doesn’t hurt.
One day I hope we never land.
