For some reason, all of a sudden, I cant get into the chat room. I get a message saying that I need to download the Java for runtime. I click the button, it downloads, I verify it and we start the cycle all over again. I have deleted cookies, restarted, deleted temp files, restarted, nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

That's weird. I've gone in and had java errors, only to just go right back in and have no problems.
PC or Mac?

Well, I can second that I've had nothing but problems with IE and chat. Firefox on the Mac is iffy. Safari works just fine.

I did a "find" on Java and there were about 100 files and folders.........I'm afraid to delete it all.

Wouldn't you do it through 'add/remove programs?'

Tojo
Would be the best option if you want to remove it, and install a new version.
I use both IE and FF. With FF the banners at the top of the chat had casued the entire page to refresh, forcing me to click inside the typespace with each refresh in order to chat. In IE I don't have that problem, however if I try and alter the chatrooom avtar, or change the font style settings during the chat. I get an error that closes the entire window. It's not enough of an issue to me to replace the java or use another browser. However, if I wanted to try another browser I would attempt to use Opera.
Hope you resolve your problem!

I have a similar problem... everytime I go into the chat room it says 'java applet failed'
I've deleted the version I have, and downloaded it again. Deleted cookies, the works... it just doesn't seem to like me T_T
try the latest version of IE from yahoo. I downloaded that, and it fixed the errors I was having. I am expecting the same results from FF when the final version is released on the 24th of Oct.

Its just wierd, because I go into other chat rooms I'm part of, and although the chat is operated by Java, it works fine everywhere else. Its just here.
As I said... it hates me.:30:

must just be that Aussie version of Java ---lol
Kewl and I have not been able to get into the library chat room since it changed servers. So it is not just an Aussie only problem. It happens on both of our puters at home and hers at work.

HELP!!
Have you tried upgrading your version of your browser? They have all updated recently. Additionally, have you tried using a different browser? IE vs Fire Fox, or vice versa?
We will get it figured out for ya, just takes some try this try that steps for us to eliminate the possibilities.

We have unloaded java and reloaded it several times. The problem is in the Library as we can get into the sample chat room on RealChat and out Java works everywhere else. This is the same thing that happened to Curious the las time the library switched servers. Thank you

Could simplely be a problem server end. The program thats written in Java might have some kind of fault in it, and as it loads something happens and causes problems. Maybe its not talking with the server properly perhaps?
This is happening on 3 different computers and 2 different ISP's. I normally use IE but I did try Firefox but it did the same thing.

I"m having the same trouble. I can't get chat to work.
i've upgraded Java, have the latest IE fixpack, although refuse to upgrade to ie7 because several sites I visit won't support IE7 until January.
even using firefox it doesn't seem to work.
I havn't been able to get chat to start for the last week. even when it did start, it would only start 'some times' usually after I posted something on the forum, but lately that trick doesn't even work.

THINK I got a possible solution.
what firewall/anti virus are you using.. ??
It just hit me that my firwall and antivirus software might be preventing the chat to run..
I killed zone alarm and chat started right upt he first time.
After it got going, I restarted zone alarm and have no problems.
also found out zone alarm was blocking some pictures because they are hosted off a different site (3rd party) and I have zone alarm set to block that.. i forgot I had set it up that way :)
try killing your anti virus/firwaall software, start chat and see if it works.
I have tried it with the anitvirus and firewall both completely off and it still does not help.

What anti-virus software are you running?

avg
pj - I looked at the software, and it appears to have an internet security feature. try disabling that feature, if you are still unable to get into the chat room, try completely removing avg from your computer. If you are able to get in after doing either of those, then we can narrow down the cause.
