Ok, let me see if I can explain this so that you can understand and see if anyone can help

I use Internet Explorer and XP and just in the last week or so, if I close an IE window down I get an message - saying Unexpected problem, have to close, and do I want to submit error report.

Then any IE windows I have open, all close :(

I have Avast antivirus and run Ad-Adware too and they aren't coming up with anything

I also clear cookies and file each time I log out

Any ideas as to what else I could try?

Thanks and any ideas would be really appreciated

~hugs~ minx x

Sounds to me like an plug in is freezing up and causing an error. Does it happen on every page or just ones with allot of graphics or flash running?

no pattern to when it happens just if I shut one window they all disappear after the message comes up

Not sure, could be a corrupt operating system

May sound wierd but try updating or reinstaling your flashplayer. That has been the culprit of that kind of error, but it may not be here. It can't hurt.

sounds like a plugin....

I would check for updates for all plugins, or uninstall them... IE will alot of times install toolbars, that are not needed. Remove them if you don't use them.

Smiles. I agree with minx, a "non-techies" guide would be useful. I had the same problem recently and it's mostly fixed itself, but I'm not sure what the corrections you suggest mean.

The report informs Microsoft of a problem with IE and XP. This is how Microsoft learns of any problems. You will eventually get an automatic update to fix the problem.

First thing I'd try is to upgrade IE minx.

Go to 'Help' up the top of your web page, click on 'About IE'

See what version you are running- if it's not version 7 SP2, go to this page & dl that. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

The only way most of us fix our PCs is to try one thing at a time...

Keep us posted!

to remove any plugins you would need to go to

start>control panel>Add remove programs>

Once that window opens you would need to find the list of things you have downloaded and installed for IE. Remove them one at a time. After each removal see if it corrected the error you have.

The Yahoo or Google tool bar are examples of installed plugins. I don't have them installed, as it reduces system resources, and I don't use them.

Here are some pics to help you in your steps.

**CAUTION**
ANYTHING YOU UNINSTALL IS PERMINATELY REMOVED

Don't remove anything that you don't know what it is. There are programs in that list that make your computer function.

To manage plugins in IE you would go to IE and on the menu bar at the top select Tools>Manage Add Ons.

In that menu, choose one add on at a time, disable it, and then repeat the action that gives you the error.

If it didn't fix the error. Go back and enable that.
