I agree with ~hellish one~'s suggestions and you might also wish to think about adding a MSN, yahoo or AIM link into your profile. There are a lot of conversations which go on behind the scenes using these.

Another route is to get posting - some of these threads, particularly the ones in Fun and Games are fast moving and are a great way to way to get to introduce yourself.
