Help with building paddles

I have done a bit of searching around and i just can't find a paddle that i like that i can afford. Just my i found a few that are real nice but i just cant afford to spend that kind of money.
So i have decided that i will just build my own, just like i am building my own 4 poster bed.

So the question is, has anyone made there own paddles?
What are good woods, bad woods?
Fur or not to fur?
Holes, not holes?
leather or no leather?
Etc, what has been your experience?

i have made a couple.
i use 1"by oak if i can find it. mainly cause i like how it looks once stained.

don't use pine. i broke pine on the ass of a certain partner . :shithappe It was my first paddle made of laminated plywood. don't use that either. lol.

I like a board that is 6 to 8 inches.

I liked holes at one time but i've found you can take a router and make all sorts of ridges and other shapes which leave wonderful paddle marks.;pank
the half round or the v shape bits are most excellent to me. :evil:

hrm oh and the length. when i was younger i made one that was nearly 4 foot long not counting the handle.
so i could spank two at once. i dated twins then....
still have that one.

but my last one is only 18" not counting handle. i think it is a nice length. not too long and very maneuverable in most places. :hubba:

I like leather since I like the feeling of hitting that ass as hard as I can. Wood needs some restraint, which is a bit boring.

I enjoy working with wood, and as it was stated, pine is probably the worst choice for wood there is. Hard woods are better, and I find holes are good if you wish for swift hard swats, but repetitive swats with or without holes make her hurt the same.

I once got an oak paddle as a gift for my birthday from a sub that was a professional wood smith. I split it hitting the ass of a different submissive. I told her that it is her trophy, and gave it to her. She has it on display in her house.
