Now . . . I will admit that I also write childrens poetry. . . in fact, I have two illustrated and in print, but that is a whole different story. I have a character named Freddy who shows up often in my children's and youth poetry. Here is one of his escapades. Unfortunately, this was the end of Freddy as you will see.

Freddy and the Spaghetti

Freddie
likes spaghetti
it is his favorite food.

"Feed me"
then out screamed he
it sounded very rude

Said his mom
with great aplomb
"Fix it for yourself"

So he
found spaghetti
and took a pan from off the shelf.

Then he got
a great big pot
the largest he could find.

Filled it
at the spigot
to what he spilled he paid no mind.

Boiling
now he's toiling
to get the pasta in the pot.

Cooking
while he's looking
for the sauce (he wants a lot).

Stirring
in the seasoning
he has to climb up on the stove.

Slipping
as he's sipping
into the pot he dove.

And just then
in comes Ben
Freddie's younger brother.

And seeing
the pot steaming
he calls out to his mother.

Said he,
"Is this spaghetti
ready to be eaten?"

Mother said,
"Your brother
was going to put the meat in."

Ben shrugged,
a spoon he tugged
from the drawer to fill his plate.

And tasting
what had been basting
Ben licked his lips and said,

"Freddie
makes good spaghetti.
It's the best I've ever had!"
