Gor and Afghani jewelry???

As some of you know, one of the major passions in my life is Middle Eastern dance. Well, back before I had anything to do with the BDSM community (I had fantasies, but hadn't really put a name to them), I used to spend a lot of time on eBay looking for tribal jewelry for dancing because, well, I lived at home and had disposable income. :p
One thing that came up a lot in item descriptions for Afghani tribal jewelry was KAJIRA -- GOR. At the time I always assumed that those were the names of tribes. Now, of course, I know better. What I can't figure out, though, is what the jewelry has to do with the Gorean community. Gor is not my thing (no offense to the people who *are* into it, but for me D/s has very little to do with gender), so I haven't read enough on the subject to make a connection, but when it recently occured to me where I'd heard that word before, I got pretty curious. :) Anyone care to educate me?

Go to the a - z thread, we have a thread on gor there actually. Kajira is reference to a female slave, there are different kinds as I understand it. Gor did have male slaves too I believe, but I'm in no position to be of any kind of authority on the subject.

Thanks, but yeah, I know what kajira is. :) Just wondering what it had to do with the jewelry.

My guess would be that style of jewelry fits the image people into the gorean lifestyle see their slaves wearing.

Of course many buyers of that style jewelry may be women who like the fantasy of the gorean world and it helps her feel like she is a kajira when she wears it.

The cover art on the books probably shows a style similar to the type you describe.

As I understand it the kajira wore a belly chain of sorts, or an ankle chain... so that it made noise. This way their Master would know where they were, or if told not to move, if they had moved.

Ah! Makes sense now. Kuchi jewelry is often decorated with bells -- which is also why it's so popular with belly dancers, because we like the sounds to accent our movements. :)

... although I don't exactly relish the idea of walking into my local BDSM club and seeing hordes of girls in belly dance outfits with the crotches cut out... :eek:
