So me and my wonderful and beautiful, (and fantastic) slave is getting married August 4th.
We've found matching rings that look good. Now's the problem. We want to engrave something on them that is very symbolic of our relationship, comitment and love.
Our names don't really aply since we've changed her name to "slave". I don't want a ring saying "slave". It would feel silly, (kind of unmastery).
We don't want "Master" and "slave" or "owner" and "property" either. It just doesn't feel right, because it's too stereotypical.
Any ideas are very welcome. One idea that stuck though is having one word with connection to BDSM devide it up into two and have each part on each ring. Now here comes the reason why I'm making this long winded post.
We can't think of a good word.
If you have a better idea up your sleave, (or slave) don't hesitate to share it with me. How did you do when you married your slave?
thanks

Will try to think - but currently distracted by the idea of having ideas stored in one...

How about using the word consensual. It is obviously used in the BDSM term SS&C, but more significantly is a foundational value of your relationship. It has the added advantage of being explainable, albeit to a limited extent to vanillas.

I like cariad's idea! Dividing up the word is a great idea, but doing it in the way she suggests- that's just perfect!
And congratulations to you and yours, Tom. :)

You're a star darling. Off-course that's genious. But consensual isn't particularly specific for our relationship. It's basically true for any relationship outside rural India.
How about?

What do you all think of that one? "Obedience" is definitely an importand facet of our relationship, if not the most important.
It's still open. We're far from making a choice. More words that could work? Please share.
I thought I'd add a pic of the rings. The text will go on the front of them. In big letters.

love the rings!
and i like cariad's idea as well...very unique
or..
you could take the first letter of a few words that define her love/service to you...as well as yours to her and put them on the rings...
so her ring has the letters S O L (submission/slave, obedience, loyalty/love) just as an example...and yours could have D L T S (Dominance/Discipline, loyalty/love, training, strength....)
just examples...you don't have to use all of those words and each letter could mean something different or have multiple meanings to you and her...but it would be nice for her to look down at the rings and always be reminded of what you are giving and sharing with each other in your relationship. :)

Hmmmmm, obedience does not work for me, since it is only a one way thing - you are not obedient to her.
How about the word service since that is a two way thing?

Tom,
I like cariad's idea, but I am a romantic at heart. You should consider it as I am sure your salve would be most appreciative.

Well i was thinking that marriage is a form of bondage, you are binding your lives and hearts together. So what about something like bound heart or something in that vein? i will try to think of something more poetic.

Great idea. But. We had a discussion and came up with this demand on the text on the rings. What we write on the rings must mean something in it's own right. I don't want it to need an explanation. It needing some thought and need to work it out is all right, (like Cariads suggestion).
Thanks for your effort anyhow.

You mean a word that also shows my emotional commitment? Wouldn't it be better to have two different words then? Service is a little bit....vague? One with "obedience" and the other with.... "loyalty".... or something that means my dedication to her, and willingness to take responsibility for her.

I was trying to come up with a word which was applicable to you both, although may have slightly different meanings for you both. I agree service could be a bit vague, although, assuming your relationship is as I imagine it to be, is applicable. Whatever word(s) you choose I think it is important that it is not gimmicky, it still needs to be powerful, stylish and classy in 30 years time!

Hi Tom,
Well, I don't really know you or your slave very well, so comming up with a word that describes your relationship uniquely is a bit difficult, but an idea is to use latin words. A few examples (and I don't speak latin, so you might want to check these with someone who does if you like them):
tutis: trusted, protected, safe
inservio: to be a slave, serve, be devoted to
pareo: to be obedient to, obey.
dominus: master, lord
ardor -oris m. [flame , burning, heat]; of bright objects, [gleam]; of feelings (esp. of love), [heat, eagerness]; meton., [an object of love, loved one].
confido -fidere -fisus sum [to have complete trust in , be assured]. Hence
partic.
... just throwing the idea out there... I wish you both all the best!

30 years!!! Now I'm swooning. God that would be wonderful. Sitting with my slave on a porch, raisin skin. Me in a rocking chair, her on the floor....both of us looking into the sunset.
Where was I....em....ok. I think 30 years is a good goal to aim for.

Thanks, those are nice. We've decided that if we have two words it must be what we want to tell the other we feel.
She's settled for having the word "obedience" on hers. I on the other hand would like to have something that's a combination of "authority" and "loyalty". "Care" would be nice to fit in...but it may get a bit crowded. Got any latin ones for that?

If you want to use the same word for both, I'd go with devotion.
For a counterpart to obedience, for some reason I really like dominion.

Just been searching for ideas for the wedding bands inscriptions and came upon W.I.I.W.D. 'What it is we do'. Some great suggestions coming in and I'm sure you'll find the right one that works. Good Luck.

If you wish to take the Latin route...
Dominus (Master) and ancilla (house slave) or obsequor (obedient).
That is based on rusty school girl latin. If you are going to go down the Latin route I will check with ColinClout first for you, since he is a professional in such matters, unless someone else here is a wizz in ancient languages.

smiles... I painted a pic of us sitting in a double rocker, both old and outlines of kids and grandkids off to the side.. was very similiar..tot he thoughts here.
Well, the wedding bands do resemble the links of a golden chain. My idea would be to engrave them with something like "love chain". That would sound romantic even for those who have no idea you are into BDSM.

I really liked cariad's idea of a Latin word. So, following that theme, I found these that I thought you may consider:
debeo - to be morally bound to
spondeo - to betroth, promise, pledge
perennis - everlasting, uninterrupted
sempiterna - eternal
verus - true, real, proper, right
perfectus - complete, done, without flaw
iunctus - connected, joined together
conjugium - wedlock
licet - it is right, just
totus - whole, entire, complete, all
plene - completely, wholly, fully
Hope this helps you out!
So will you share a pic when after you have them engraved?

Tom congrats and great job on the rings Hope you both are happy. Sorry I can not help you with advice here. Because I haven't thought about marring my slave yet. But I do know one thing tho. She will never leave my side her choice. Grats again and May your days be happy.

That's wonderful news, Tom. I'm so very happy for you both.
I like the idea of the safe word, but like Avely, I lean towards something in Latin. Semper fidelis- always faithful, Non sibi sed dominus - Not for one's self but one's master, Do ut des - I give so that you give back

...and then we've got the issue of space. We're not doing the normal squigly engraving. Too gay for my tastes.
We're doing it with old fascioned type writer types. The engraver told us that it will look crowded with more than ten characters. We're also engraving the outside of the rings. The point with the ring is to tell the world of my love.

inservio: to be a slave, serve, be devoted to
pareo: to be obedient to, obey.
dominus: master, lord
love love love these ones....why not all 4 of them, all the way around the rings so that no matter what way the rings turn on your finger, you will see a part of your relatioship?
congratulations to You and yours, Sir

just as a thought, you might try literally engraving what you want, do not worry about the word slave ect or what ever, but the catch is what ever you engrave have it engraved in LATIN, you both will know but nobody else i assume unless they are a pharamists or a teacher will know it is in latin and or what it means, and the most important thing is both of you will know what it means which is the most important thing
Just an idea
