First attempt at a story, High school aged theme
Hi, I'm quite new to this website and just made my first attempt at writing down one of my stories in as full a version as I could make it. I found making the setting rather difficult so it ended up being written in a fact based third person rather than in a descriptive plot. This segment was intended to be the first "chapter" or part of a larger story, and the action begins rather quickly after the atmosphere is set. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Chapter One
Setting:
In a remote area in the countryside of Northern England, still stands one of the more traditional boarding schools characteristic of the countries timeless tradition. Famous for its highly structured and severe school life, it is a destination for some of the countries and even the world’s richest children, and consequently the school has become increasingly wealthy. With the youth of modern ages becoming more rebellious and uncontrollable every year, the school determined to live up to its reputation of whipping any wayward youth into shape decided to invest its wealth in to a new system of discipline.
The school developed and purchased a sophisticated simulation system that could be used to traumatize pupils enough to force submission to the school’s severe lifestyle, while still leaving their bodies physically intact. And so far it accomplished their goal perfectly, the parents were fond of the system because it caused no real physical damage yet it was extremely effective in keeping students in line simply through fear. But with realization of how realistic the simulations really were, the corrupted headmaster willing to do anything for influence and money among the wealthy families he served began to favor certain students when it came to punishment. Male students would often be included in the simulation just for their own pleasure in taking advantage of the helpless girls trapped inside of it. The girls could neither run to the headmaster who was controlling it, or their parents who had approved the punishment already, for help and so they were helplessly at the will of the headmaster and his young male clients.
Most recently two young teenage girls Jennifer Florence and Sarah Casey, of around sixteen years in age broke one of the most sacred rules of the school. They have just been thrust awake by an unfelt force and their vision is taking several minutes to adjust to the darkness of the room they’re in. They can only make out the size of the room, about a twenty by twenty foot square surrounded on three sides by solid concrete walls, and closed off on the fourth side by tall heavy iron bars. The concrete wall opposite the bars was relieved by a single small window in the upper right hand corner, and there is a larger square room on the other side of the bars. It seemed a common jail cell, but it lacked little more than a mattress on the floor for a bed and a hole in the ground for a latrine.
Beginning to regain all of their senses as they adjusted, the girls realize as they try to move, that their hands are tightly bound behind their backs and their ankles tied to iron rings in the ground. After struggling to free themselves for several minutes, they hopelessly give up and sag down in their bonds, looking to each other for hope in their desperate situation.
The girls had heard of the simulations before, and knew their lifelike qualities. People often came out of them traumatized by the events that occurred within. It was hard to believe at first that the victims of the simulation could have really been harmed mentally by it, but through interviews with participants, it was revealed that the events that took place were so real in every aspect except affecting your real physical body, that they carried the same mental damage as it actually happening.
They also knew Mark, and his desperate envy of their not being his in school, fearing just how far he would go even in a simulation.
“Sarah, can you hear me Sarah?” Jenny asked.
“Yes! I’m right behind you, we’re back to back,” Sarah replied.
“So, this is really it, this is the simulation?”
“Yeah, I guess so, but it doesn’t feel like I’ve even ‘left my body’, you know what I mean?”
“Yes, it just feels like we’ve been asleep and woken up in this nasty place, everything feels so real. These ropes, the cold floor, everything”
“It’s supposed to be like that, everything that happens here will feel real.”
“You don’t think the headmaster will really let Mark do anything to us like they do to those other victims, the ones who committed real crimes? I mean we just, you know, were having some fun. We didn’t hurt anyone or anything. They can’t possibly let him.” Sarah questioned fearfully.
“I don’t know, but I just want to get out of hear, this cell gives me the creeps, and there’s no way I’m staying here for a weeks, or submitting to Mark for that matter,” replied Jenny in protest, and with that gave another tug on her bonds, again to no avail.
“I’m sure Mark would never do anything really to harm us, I mean this is just to scare us into behaving right? Not really to hurt us?” asked Sarah nervously.
Suddenly as she ended her sentence a door leading to the larger square room opened opposite them and two large guards dressed in full black suit coats and pants came through flanking their fellow student, Mark.
“Actually I’d have to disagree Sarah, pain may be a necessary tool in correcting the behavior that has put you in this situation, so don’t just count on fear as my only tool,” replied Mark coolly. Mark was dressed in similar fashion to his normal school clothes setting him apart form his generic looking oversized guards. Mark begins to stroll back and forth in front of their cell hands behind his back addressing the frightened girls. “Welcome to the simulation girls, I hope I can accomplish what the school has assigned me to do in correcting your vile behavior,” he pauses grinning at them, “and then a little extra. This world I’ve created with the headmaster will feel and seem completely real for all of us, except the guards who are not human but simulation, and only respond to my command. I have a set system I’ve outlined with the headmaster to first punish you, and then train you to submit to the rules of our society, whether or not you want to.” He continued.
“Stop acting like you have some sort of duty or purpose, you’re just as bad as anyone!” Sputtered Jenny enraged at Marks matter of fact tone. “You just want to get back at us to dumping you in school, this is all revenge to you!”
“Silence!” bellowed Mark, ”I will not tolerate you speaking out of line in my prison, you will only speak when I ask you too, is that understood?”
“You can’t force us to do anything, you’re not the boss of us, I’m sure we can end this simulation as soon as you try to pull anything inappropriate on us,” yelled Jenny defiantly.
“Oh,” chuckled Mark, ”that’s where you’re wrong, I’ll do whatever I have to in order to force total submission out of you too.
