Behind the Curtain

I have been put on guard
By words that have been spoken
I hide behind my curtain now
Because my heart is broken
I won’t let myself be hurt
These curtains are my walls
I don’t let my true self show
Until the curtain falls
On stage it’s just an act
To hide all my fears
Behind the curtain though
I can shed all my tears
When I’m on the stage
I play my part so well
They’ll never know my knees are shaking
And I’ll never tell
When the act is done
And the curtains down
Then I can be myself
When no one is around

Better to be your true self.

Life is full of competing demands that need complex decisions. Sometimes those decisions mean we have to deny a piece of ourselves. And that may be good. Bur every time we deny something about ourselves, we become that much more diminished.
