With apologies to Geoffrey Chaucer, this is a take-off on one of his tales. This is my version of:
The Wife of Bath
The Wife of Bath, the infamous woman who gained control of each of her husbands by gaining sovereignty over them watches the proceedings at her fourth husband’s funeral, and smiles inwardly because she can hardly keep her eyes off a young clerk named Jankyn.
The lengthy service gave the upperclass Madam time to reflect about her life. She had always followed the rule of experience rather than authority.
