A Hand Dealt Foul
---
In pioneering a love lacerating gestalt,
We tread the battlefield, stepping precarious,
Amongst the gray, lifeless headstone flowers,
In your beautifully vibrant garden.
We dread history’s Siren echo.
Vacillate hearts calibrating affliction to ecstasy.
Meditation on self-sacrifice and purpose:
Ameliorate the maimed,
Rejuvenate the abused heart to “healed?”
Or will these steps lead to a stage,
A cheap, imitation, ill-prepared MacBeth,
Unsure in script or direction,
Exacerbating the infirmity,
Metastasizing the malaise,
To a catastrophic curtain call?
Encroaching upon entrenched passion,
Over my mental white noise, static lull,
Anxiety curling our knuckles white,
“Extend” and “Engage” call out,
Simultaneous, delusive to disrupt.
Squawk boomerang, 1200 to 7700,
And back again in heartbeats.
Where land mines found underfoot
Lose not easy limb, but hard lives
In a dissociative nightmare-circus downfall.
Reasoned, assuaging the cautious Protector,
A hug and a curled fist,
A kiss and a knife,
A touch, and a scream not your own.
Nurtured, fostering the playful Child,
Charmed, amusing the quiet Observer,
Discussed, assisting the grateful Helper,
Embraced, consoling the crying Terrified,
Supported, rallying the insecure Timid,
Pleaded, paroling the self-loathing Persecutor,
Restrained, guarding the violent Executioner,
Solidified, bolstering the unstable System
In delicate gestures of integration.
Terminal and clinical,
These abrasive random outbreaks,
Plaguing and glittering you socially caustic,
Against a healing and positive background life.
Stuttering an otherwise resilient and gorgeous existence,
By a cosmic hand dealt foul,
By a predatorily mortal dealer.
Oh, these teeth ache for jugular.
And in the violet dawn,
Your mind paints the world brighter.
And in the indigo morning,
Your caring of others reminds me why I give.
And in the blue mid,
Your beautiful words captivate and entrance the crowd.
And in the green noon,
Your love heals the broken met along your way.
And in the yellow evening,
Your strength attracts the weak under wing.
And in the orange dusk,
Your depths call to mine.
And in the red night,
Your body alights mine with a fire, foreign to this world.
I’d give 6 months of recovery,
If it meant I stood in the way and you were spared.
I’d give 10 years for murder,
If it meant your ignorance to such intimate injustices.
But we’re chained powerless to history,
So I’ll give a lifetime of friendship
Because it means I can listen and aid your healing.
And whenever I’m near
Know that these eyes prowl this forest,
And these sharp weapons grind to points,
Always weighing for signs of predators.
And pray it’s never needed,
But point and these teeth will sink their deepest,
And I’ll give you my 6 months,
And I’ll offer my 10 years,
And this lifetime of friendship,
Will be forever sealed
In Love.
