Obscene Images, What do you think

I have just finished a bit in national papers here in the UK, that the government are going to pass a bill to make obscene images agaist the law.

if there find any on your computer then you will be taken to court, but they will not stop you from looking that them on-line.

I would love to know on who is going to draw up the guide lines on this, as most of the ministers are into Bondage and kind games behind close doors. :D

I feel that this could be a infringing on my human rights of expressing myself as a Dom.

The only images that I feel should be block are images of children.

What do you Think about this ???

thank you for posting.

so by the look of it, anying images that looks or are Violent. eg. bondage then they are going to case that as obsence.

in that case then I better hide my images as I have over a 3g of images and movies of females of ex-partners and images from the net of girls in bondage of some sort.

I think although in theory the idea is a good one (why should the internet be exempt from the law) it isn't very clear, all these things are subjective how will you know if your comitting a crime? I have seen perfectly legal mainstream porn that has obvoiusly vunreable women in it being called names etc that they are clearly uncomfortable with (by no means was any of these films violent but I considered them abusive) yet bdsm films were clearly everyone is consenting and acting are deemed illegal (although this could be beacause of the male nudity).

Anyway the point I am (very badly) making is that the laws are stupid anyway so anything else they say really makes no difference.

so you can look at anything you want to online...but you can't save it onto your computer? Is that what the law is going to be? I think that's still going a little far, assuming that the pictures are legal acts, not pedophilia or anything, and it's not like you're showing the pictures to a 6 year old kid. I think people should be able to have whatever they want on their computer if they do it right. What are they going to do if you actually print out those pictures? they aren't on your computer then, is that legal?

This is quite interesting. I don't know on how there are going to deal with printer images. It will be interested in seeing on how there are going to define the term obsence.

Does anyone have a link to the actual legislation? I have lawyer-type friends who could go through it and make it readable ^^

There's a "consultation document" from the Home Office - I guess we should all respond to it. The only question is, what should we say? :/

If you're looking it online, it's being saved to your computer whether you like it or not.
Even if you clear your browser cache, the files are still recoverable by the police.

The anti-paedophilia law used in the appropriate cases is often "Making images". The interpretation of the law is that by viewing it online, the perpetrator creates a copy on your hard drive therefore an image has been "made". Wouldn't suprise me to see the same thing applied in this case.

If you think this is nothing to worry about then you're very wrong. Sorry.

(obviously I use the paedophilia example as a parallel. I in no way condone (in fact utterly condemn) those who make, spread or encourage the creation of these images by viewing them. I simply use this as an example of how another aspect of illegal internet pornography is tackled. The danger here is that people viewing consentual images, perhaps even those on the picture thread, will find themselves prosecuted for "Making" images of "violent sex")

This is in my opinion a complete kneejerk reaction to a single tragic murder - a teacher killed by a mentally disturbed man "obsessed with violent porn". As usual instead of tackling real threats, they tackle the current tabloid flavour-of-the-month.

Aha. Now we get to the heart of it. Why battle boring killers like smoking, obesity, and stress when we can talk about VIOLENT PORN? It's so much more interesting. Besides, "normal people" don't indulge in violent porn. They indulge in harmless things, like smoking, overeating, and overworking.

Thats odd. But the british law can only close down sites that are run in england. So it will hardy afffect anyone. And.. the first thing that crossed my mind is this 'how are they planning on finiding out if people have violent porn on their comuter' :confused:
That will be hard. And they can only moniter the download from english sites anyway! I think only child porn should be gotten rid of really. People do have careers as 'porn stars' its not like theyre made to do the acts they do!
And why do they want to get rid of it anyway. I mean; when young children can play video games involving sleeping with hookers, killing everyone they see and such violence.. why can't an adult look at a violent pornographical picture?!

regarding you points about, on how there can see on who is download the porn, is by placing spyware software on the internet nodes to monitor on what type of data is being tranmited. In doing this task is very time and mapower intensive but it can be done, as I do this for the MOD.

I also feel the sameway about allow people view any types of imags they like, and only some sites like 'child porn' sites as they are firms and porn stars out there who are making a living out of it.
