Ruby I LOVE this book and recommend it all the time. I think sometimes people are a bit put aside at the title, but I think it's a five star read on relationships of every type.

Haven't read it, intend to get/read it immediately.

Bless you Ruby, for bringing this up. I would very much like to expound on these areas as a learning guide here on the Forums.

Seriously, if I could buy it in bulk I'd send it to all my friends.

These areas, Crafty. Not to hijack this thread, but this topic is specifically why I opened this thread.

I truly want to make this entire topic a series of learning/comment section here at the Library. Thanks to anyone who helps me in this endeaver. :D

John Warren, the author of TLD, posts on a forum I'm a member of. His insight just amazes me, and even though I don't always agree with absolutely everything he says, I respect his opinions and views, and think that people like him are few and far in between. :-)

Heh. I think you'll find that the topics you listed in the other section, really aren't covered in the book. It's about relationships, and how to deal with yourself and other people in smart, loving ways. It's very emotionally oriented, and basically says you'll have to sort out what you feel safe with, disease and barrier wise, on your own.

Anyway.....I screwed up....apparently, I clicked on and ordered the wrong damn book! Now, I have to return this one, and wait a few more to order the correct one....

:o Right, well, the book has been in my bathroom for @ a month, now, so only bits and pieces are getting read.

Anyway, I have a question. Maybe it's inappropriate, as I just haven't gotton to that chapter yet? Soooo, how/where does one meet other ethical sluts? Since I live in the religious South, perhaps they tend to hide themselves better?

Anyway, although the ethical slut is who I was, in my younger years, and philosophy, before Barton, I hadn't met anyone of like mind in the 14 years of living in this area. I've even tried introducing other people to the concept. The thought itself was warmly received, each time, but the pracrice was firmly negated.

Hmm, methinks it's WHY people move into this area? To avoid such a lifestyle?

Kats, there are groups and munches all over the place.

If I was searching for like minded folks - not online - I'd find a local munch and start checking out the group as a whole. You may find others who were looking for a friend like you.

The downside, is that depending on where you are located, you may have to drive several hours for a "big city" group.

Right, my thoughts exactly. I'm attending my first "city" Munch next week. However, it's more of a BDSM scene. It's just funny, that the authors tend to talk about "running into" someone who is doing 'such and such', almost as if they (the ethical sluts) were common types of folks.

I guess I was just wondering if it's because they live in places like San Fran. In my years of traveling around, I have never hidden my sexuality (in concept), or desires for intimate contact. I always get a "hey, great idea!", but then, nobody actually wants to practice it. (The open relationships, I mean, not necessarily sex with me.)

Even the most forward thinkers are very closed to the open sex ideal. Pity, as most of them are from the hippy days, when they practiced that lifestyle without qualms. Go figure. :rolleyes:

Anyway, I think my question is this. Is this book a tad outdated, in practice?
