Slave Auction

The title is pretty much self-explanatory. I'd prefer a one-on-one roleplay with a literate (that is, someone who is reasonably studied in area of spelling and grammar *cough*).

I'm thinking of a Medieval setting without electricty or modern equipment. You know, with the branding irons, chains, big dungeons, and the like. If there's something else you'd like to do, feel free to suggest it. My preferences aren't law. :D

Claudia was walking down a quiet, stately hallway. Mahogany doors, reminscent of the ones in her previous home, lined the corridor, and her slippered feet made no sound upon the plush red carpet as she walked past them. Ahead, she saw a figure. It was her husband. Joy and longing burst into her heart.

"James! James!" she cried out, her walk turning into a run.

He turned at the sound of her voice. His face was covered in crimson dye. His bloodied hand reached out to her, its fingers decayed and rotting.

Claudia opened her mouth to scream, but a sudden jolt of the cage woke her from her dream.

She opened her eyes, then closed them quickly again when the bright sunshine blinded her. Weakly, she forced herself to turn over so that she crouched in a fetal position, her face turned away from the light. She blinked a few times and was able to regain her vision. Her unclothed knee scraped against the bottom of the sharp metal cage and she yelped a little in pain.

"Quiet, bitch," a gruff voice told her.

She peered angrily at him, but quieted. It would do no good in her condition to begin an argument with her guards. Instead, she glanced around her surroundings.

The cage in which she had inhabited for roughly a week had been placed on some kind of cart and was finally being taken elsewhere by the two men. She tried to discern where they were headed through the metal framework of her little home. The place held the cheery bustle of people as they hurried here and there in search of who knows what. She heard the call of merchants and smelled the scent of spices. Caravans traveled sturdily through the street despite the puddles from last night's rain.

It took no genius to figure out that she was about to be sold off in the auction block. She had probably been transported to the market place by a caravan and then taken the rest of the way by the two men. Sure enough, she saw the block ahead and several slaves beside herself.

Despite herself, the feeling of fear and injustice rose in her heart at the sight of all those slaves, chained and lined up in a single row, waiting to be bought. And she was one of them. Human cargo. Chattel. Without rights. She forced down the tears that threatened to surge. How did this happen to me? she wondered. How could it?

She remembered all too well. She had been a noblewoman, of rich and high status. She had lead a good life. But then fate struck. Her husband, James, whom she had barely been with a year, had caught a deadly disease. The doctors had been unable to find a cure, and he died within a month. Claudia had mourned his death and wondered how she would be able to run a large household of servants, manage the money, and make a living. A long-time friend of James, by the name of Peter, had offered to help. She could still hear his poisonous, honeyed voice in her ear.

"These are not a woman's jobs. It needs a man's doing," he had assured. "I'll help you. You can trust me."

And Claudia did trust him. She had turned all the power over to him. It had been such a foolish move. But she had still been dazed over Jame's death and had been willing to accept help - any help - from anyone. She had been so desperate.

She still wasn't sure what happened next and how he was able to do it. All she knew was that Peter had sold her into slavery, somehow managing to cover her disapearance, and that the house, all the money, and the servants, now belonged to him. The thought could still make her livid.

She was interrupted out of these ponderings when the men stop moving the cage, unlocked the door, and barked at her to get out. Startled, she realized that they were already there. She scrambled out of the cage as quickly as she could and stumbled onto the ground. Her legs, which hadn't been used for quite a while, protested, and she almost fell.

One of her guards grabbed her by the arm. As if I could escape in my current condition, she thought bitterly to herself. Cool metal locked her wrists in front, rendering her hands immobile. She was herded along to the lines of waiting slaves.

The auctioneer was already talking. He was taking bets for a young male slave that looked less than happy about his position. After a while, Claudia's attention drifted from the auctioneer's words and the crowd's response. It was the same over and over again. A slave was introduced, the bids were taken, and the slave was sold.

A particularly ugly slave went up. She looked as thin as a stick. Absentmindedly, Claudia wondered how she herself looked, having gone days with proper food or any baths. She had been an attractive woman before becoming enslaved, but she had no idea if that still showed. She knew she'd definitely be thinner and more frail, and probably dirtier too.

The slave before her went up to be sold. Claudia was suddenly nervous of her predicament. What if she was sold to someone cruel? What if she wasn't sold at all? Would they try again at a different location or simply kill her? The introduction by the auctioneer ended and the bidding started. Could she run away? There were no guards beside her. She saw several surrounding the area, however. Well, that idea was gone. Besides, she was stil handcuffed. She'd be able to survive a very short amount of time without the sue of her hands. Maybe she could pick the lock. With what?

These thoughts continued to race through Claudia's minds as the slave before her was sold and the auctioneer came for her. He hauled her up to some sort of stage. Claudia stumbled again, but managed to retain her balance. Once there, she glanced warily at the sea of people that swarmed before her. Would one of them bid for her?

The auctioneer led her to a tall post, seemingly unconcerned whether or not she was hurt along the process. He took hold of her handcuffs and attached them to the metal loop on the post. Claudia's hands were now raised over her head and she felt quite helpless.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a fine lass here," the auctioneer began in his grating voice. "A little thin and dirty, but nothing a good meal and bath wouldn't clean up." The auctioneer glanced over Claudia's form a little. She suddenly became aware of the scant clothing that she was wearing - a torn tunic and a ragged skirt. They were the only things she'd been allowed to wear, and they did a terrible job of hiding her form. The earlier night's rain only made things worse. The tunic and skirt clung to her like a second skin, revealing all of her rather enticing curves.

"Auburn hair, green eyes, lustrous, pale skin," the auctioneer rattled off, as if he was describing an item. "A good one to play with for you men, eh?" he asked, sniggering at his little joke.

Claudia glared at him and before she could stop herself, spat. The auctioneer wiped the spittle off his face. "A feisty one, though," he continued, unpreturbed. He hit her smartly on the cheek and she winced, turning her head away in pain. Having been a noblewoman, she was unaccustomed to this abuse, and tears stung her eyes. "Nothing a good whipping wouldn't take out of her. Let's say we start the bidding at....15 pieces of gold."

A few seconds passed without sound, and Claudia thought that her earlier fears were in danger of becoming reality. But then, someone spoke. "I'll take that price."

Claudia looked quickly at the bidder. The man was standing close to the stage and she could see him quite well. He was missing several teeth and was covered with dirt, grime, and sweat. Even from the distance, she could smell his rather unpleasant scent. Oh please, she thought to herself, please let someone else bid.

Naba chided himself for not jumping in first. Toothless had started the bidding at 15 gold, way more than Naba had intended to pay for the girl, but now he had to decide. This would cut his profit by half… but the green eyes and red hair could bring him a good price if he took her far enough east.

He unconsciously hefted his purse, checking it’s weight and estimating how high he could go. Maybe if he also took a couple of Damascene blades back too, some of the local spices… No not enough… unless he could get the price back down.

“Twenty pieces if she has all her teeth.” Naba walked up to the dais and climbed up the steps.

“I want to see for myself.” The auctioneer nodded his assent and grabbed the back of her head by the hair and bent her head back and pried open her jaw.

“See? A full set.”

“Is she pure? Or have you already ruined her with your prig?” The auctioneer assured him he had not touched her but alas, she was the woman of a dead westerner, an infidel who had brought her to this land where he had died and left her to fend for herself. A noblewoman… Naba doubted the story but used it to his advantage.

He returned to the crowd and stood beside Toothless and muttered to himself, but loud enough to be heard.

“Not even a virgin and he wants so much gold for her… she’s hardly worth 5 pieces of silver.” Toothless’ grin faded. “Did you see her spit? She’ll never be trainable. A noblewoman, she doesn’t even know how to cook or do house chores. Though she is very, very pretty.” Toothless got a worried look on his face, thinking about what his churl of a wife would say… and withdrew his bid.

An argument ensued, the auctioneer objected but Toothless walked off.

Before the auctioneer could start again Naba opened with a low bid.

“I’ll give you five coppers for her.” The auctioneer sputtered but the bidding instantly became lively, so he had no choice but to let it continue. By the time it was over, Naba had won the girl for eight pieces of gold and 20 silver.

He pulled his cloak from his shoulders as he regained the dais. When he tore the meager rags from her body the crowd roared its approval. Naba looked up and down and nodded his own approval. A very good buy. He put the cloak over her shoulders and lashed her hands together. She could hold the cloak mostly closed if she followed closely or could resist and expose herself to every man and boy in the marketplace as he led her away. It really didn’t matter to Naba. Naba grabbed the remaining length of rope and used it as a leash and led her roughly away.

The silence had stretched on for such a long time that Claudia had begun to accept that she was going to belong to the toothless man. But then another spoke. She turned her gaze to the potential buyer, studying him intently. Despite her condition, she found him rather attractive. Surprised by the audacity of this sudden thought, she chided herself for these ponderings. What am I thinking? she asked herself, Do I have no dignity at all?

But before she had time to chastise herself further, the second bidder had demanded whether or not she had teeth. She grew indignant when he asked to see for himself. She grew even more so when the auctioneer pried open her mouth, handling her a little too loosely for her comfort. She might have bit him if she hadn't remembered the earlier blow dealt to her.

Her face burned up when the bidder asked if she was "pure". Just who was he to ask such a question? The auctioneer answered truthfully, however, to her relief. She had been embarrassed enough as it was. Up until now, Claudia had wondered why the guards or her seller had not taken advantage of her helpless state. Now she realized that they hadn't wanted her to appear too damaged or used for the buyers.

The next few moments went by in a flash. Before she knew it, the toothless man withdrew his bid, the auction resumed, and then she was sold to the second bidder. She supposed she should be relieved that she hadn't gone to the toothless man, but she wasn't sure if the alternative would be any better. This second bidder held a shred of cunning that was going to go against her. He had managed to haggle the price down to nearly half the original, after all.

Claudia watched with growing trepidation as her new owner returned to the stage. He ripped off her clothes. It took a moment longer than the crowd for her to register what he had just done. Her jaw dropped in utter surprise as the crowd grew louder. She would later realize how silly she must have looked, completely nude with mouth agape. But having lived in the sheltered life of a noblewoman, Claudia had never, ever felt so exposed. She stood, still stunned, as her hounds were bound together.

A tug of the rope awakened her senses. She quickly stumbled along after her new owner, blushing furiously. She realized that she had been supplied with a cloak. Claudia followed closely and wrapped the cloak around her figure as much as she could. It would do little good to try and resist.

After a good while, Claudia's head began to clear. The scarlet blush that had painted her cheeks was now a tint of soft pink, but the humiliation of the circumstances almost sent it back into furious red once more. She was wearing nothing but a cloak, her hands were bound, and she was following a stranger. And one none too kind either, if his actions towards her were any to be judged. But the worst part was that she was being led around by a leash. Animals were suppose to be leashed. Was she some common mule now?

Claudia tried not to think about that too much. She had to focus on trying to get out of this situation. As thought of before, escaping seemed like a small possibility. Trying to resist and giving a hard time would do nothing except annoy the man and earn herself some more pain. Perhaps she could reason with her new owner. He didn't seem like a fool or idiot.

"Please, sir," she said timidly, straining to be heard over the din of the market, "Could I have some water? I haven't had any since yesterday morning."

There were two motives to this question. One was that she really was thirsty. She hadn't lied about when she had last gotten water. But she also wanted to see if he would give her any. It would let her know how much compassion she was dealing with.

"Please, sir," Naba heard the plea for water and smiled as he continued to lead the girl through the market streets but said nothing to acknowledge her request. In just a few minutes they approached the city gates. Naba entered the livery and tied the girl's rope to the rear of his cart, hooked up his onager and paid the bill.

Tapping the onager lightly on her haunches, the cart lurched forward and they left the city. The pace was modest and Naba allowed the cart to pass him knowing Rika wouldn’t stop until he requested her to do so. Following the cart and walking next to the girl he reached into the rear of the cart and pulled out a piece of cotton broadcloth. He draped it over the girl’s russet hair and with a flick of the wrist covered her head and face from the sun. Another quest into the cart produced a water bladder. He slowly drank about half of it. He wiped a few drops that had dribbled down his chin back to his lips and sucked in the extra moisture. He tossed the bladder to the girl. As she grabbed for it, her cloak briefly flashed open, reminding him of the great prize he had won at the auction. Naba smiled again at his good fortune at finding such a prize in the shoddy little city.

“Don’t waste any.” As Naba returned to the front of the cart he could hear the girl as she swallowed the first gulp of water. They trekked on for the rest of the afternoon until Naba turned Rika off the trail and up a small gully. He stopped at a place he had used as a camp before, near a small stream. The girl was clearly weary as she slightly swayed on her feet. He pointed to the stream.

“Wash. You smell like a pig.” Naba untied the girl’s hands and pulled his long-knife and put the tip under her chin.

“If you run I’ll have to beat you. So don’t run away. Understand?” He pulled the cloak off her shoulders and pushed her towards the stream. Though he turned his back as he began setting up camp, he actually kept close tabs on his property.

Besides, she was very pretty to look at.

So much for compassion, thought Claudia to herself when the silence passed and he had not said anything in response. She wondered if he'd heard her at all. Perhaps she should say something else? But what?

She was forced into motion as the onager moved. It was not a fast pace, however, and she found she could keep up with it without becoming too uncomfortable. However, her unclothed feet were unprotected by the roughness of the road - or, for that matter, the sharp, jagged pebbles that lined the path, and she winced in pain, though remained silent. She doubted protests would do much good.

Claudia had already gifted her new owner with the classification she reserved for uncaring brutes who took no interest in her. She was surprised, then, when he covered her head with the cloth, somewhat lessening the intense, piercing gaze of the sun. She watched intently as he reached into the cart once more and withdrew the water bladder. For a few, hellish moments, she had to watch him drink, and her parched, dry throat protested at such a sight.

When he tossed the bladder ever so casually to her, she grabbed it as if it were a lifeline. If she had noticed, Claudia would have blushed when he glanced at her briefly nude form, but her attention was elsewere. The blessed, lifesaving liquid flowed down her throat in that wonderfully refreshing way, and she thought of nothing else for the next few moments. Gradually, her thirst began to diminuish, and much later, she stopped drinking altogether. She took one look at the bladder. It was nearly completely drained. Some much for drinking sparingly.

The rest of the afternoon was a test of endurance for Claudia. She was unaccustomed to walking such great distances, and besides, her feet hurt, her stomach growled for food, and her tired body demanded that she stopped and rest. She was about to agree to the latter when they finally stopped at their destination. Relief poured into her.

She froze, however, when the cool metal of a knife touched her skin. Her eyes widened and she could have sworn he was going to kill her right then and there. But no, instead he made a comment about her smell and pushed her towards a stream which Claudia hadn't noticed until then. Fool, she chided herself, Why would he kill you right after buying you? She muttered a shaky "yes" to his question and stumbled towards the stream.

Again, she was naked. Claudia was beginning to get used to this. She wondered silently to herself whether or not that was a good thing.

The cool stream water washed over her tired, worn body, relieving not only the grime, dirt, and sweat, but also the sores and aches of being cramped in a cage so long. Claudia scrubbed herself meticulously down to every crevice of her body. It felt so good to be clean again. As she dipped her hair into the water and rinsed it out with a twist, she spied her owner out of the corner of her eyes. Despite the fact that he was setting up camp, she noticed that he was also paying attention to her whereabouts. Continuing to wash her hair, she turned her attention to her surroundings. They didn't offer much for means of escape. Even if she did manage to push her exhausted body to run away, somehow avoid his capture (which was a small possibility in itself), she would be unable to survive alone for long. Besides, the man was likely to have food with him, and she was very hungry.

I'll think of a plan later, she assured her troubled mind. I just need to rest a little first and regain my strength. I'll escape. Somehow. Although doubtful of herself, she accepted the notion for now and began wading back towards the camp.

Awkward, in her unclothed state, she approached the area and looked for a means to cover herself. For the moment, however, she appeared quite unconcealed, and, standing there in the open, her beauty was seen in full detail. Her beautiful, rich hair actually held a tint of gold along with the deep red. Covered in dirt, it had been hard to noticed before, but now it was plain. The tresses falled casually along her face in a brilliant cascade, stopping a little before her waist. They framed her visage very naturally, contrasting with her rather pale skin. The light complexion, however, complimented her physique. It went along well with the demanding tone of hair, the refined features of her face, and the overall look of delicacy in her figure. Her curves were far from subtle, however, and they stood out quite well. Her breasts were young and supple - on the large side, actually, and by no means a disappointment to any man. Her sex was covered in a small triangle of red hair.

A gust of wind blew suddenly, causing Claudia to shiver and wrap her arms around herself feebly for warmth. She spotted the abandoned cloak out of the corner of her eye and quickly walked reached for it, draping the garment over her form swiftly.

Naba watched the girl wash away as much of grime as she could without any cleaning lotions (soap) and she spent a lot of time cleaning her hair, which was longer than he had originally thought and even more colorful than had been originally apparent under the dirt. She would wash some, look around, wash some, watch him, look around, and wash some more. Naba knew she was considering her options. He also knew she could not go far if she tried, not without taking more food and water than she could carry. If she was smart, she would know better.

Naba slowly prepared a light meal, some pieces of meat seared over a small fire, a melon cut into bite sized pieces, and some figs. He went to the cart and got out the shackles he would put on her later that night. Tomorrow he’d give her sandals to wear and a simple tunic to wrap herself in under the cloak. He put those near the rear of the cart so they would also be handy.

He watched as she finally finished bathing herself and reluctantly returned the short distance to the camp. Cleaned up she was even more beautiful. The slavers had certainly diminished their returns by not presenting this beauty under better circumstances. They must have been anxious to dispose of her which could only mean they had gotten her illegally. Again, as had happened so many times before, Naba could only speculate on the cause of his good karma.

A breeze filled the air as the sun sank below the hilltops and the girl shivered. Her nipples crinkled in the air and she tried to cover herself. Naba watched her skin pebble with goosebumps. He was surprised as he felt his lingam grow at the sight of her red thatched yoni. He’d bought and sold other women before, even enjoyed training them for their eventual owners. But that was just business. He’d only rarely found himself actually lusting after them. But this one was the finest looking woman he’d ever bought.

She bent and scooped up his cloak and wrapped it around herself. None-the-less, as she bent for it, Naba saw how nicely her buttocks swelled and how her yoni peeked and beckoned to him from between her legs.

She looked around as if unsure of what to do next. Naba beckoned her over to the small fire.

“Come. Sit. Eat.” Naba sat on his haunches, knees spread, as she approached. He put some pieces of meat on a small square plate fired from modest pottery clay, but painted and glazed in an unusual manner that had reminded him of the lights that sometimes shine in the night skies of the far north. He pointed to the bowl with the melon and figs.

“As much of the fruit as you want… Don’t be shy. I am hungry so I know you must be too.” Naba began eating as he watched her. Later…

“Do you have a name? What did your last owner call you?”

Claudia felt much warmer and comfortable under the protection of the cloak. She donned it with haste, trying to cover up as much of herself as possible. The task done, she glanced this way and that, wondering what she should do next. She realized a moment later that she was waiting for his orders. Not even a day and she was already behaving like a slave, she scolded herself resentfully.

He did not disappoint her, however. "Come. Sit. Eat," he'd said. Gladly, her stomach responded eagerly, and, complying, she approached the small fire. She hesitated, then, wrapping the cloak yet tighter, sat across from him.

Claudia gave him a look of thanks when he offered the fruit to her. He had no idea how hungry she was. She then turned her attention to the bowl and studied its contents briefly. The melon and figs were meager compared to her former life's pleasures, but after eating the tough, barely edible bread while she was caged, this was a very pleasant change. She took a fig and daintily nibbled on it. The sweet taste filled her mouth before she swallowed gratefully. Then, abandoning any more attempts at manners, she bit viciously into the fig and for the next minutes or so, concentrated entirely on satisfying her hunger. After all, he had told her not to be shy.

As Claudia's appetite began to decline, she ate slower and looked a little about her. She had noticed that he had only offered the fruit to her, not the meat. That was reserved for himself, it seemed. She eyed the small plate that the meat rested upon. She had seen finer pieces before, but its rather peculiar design caught her interest. Maybe she would ask him about it later. She was feeling a great deal more pleasant towards the man after being fed.

His words, sounding strange after the long silence, interrupted her reverie. She looked up at him, studying him with large, observant green eyes. Her pride writhed in pain when he said "last owner". He assumed that she had been owned, that the auctioneer had spoken a lie, that she could not possibly have actually been a noblewoman.

"My name is Claudia," she said softly. Her voice was more audible here than in the loud market place. Her speech was too refined and lofty for that of a commoner, and it held somewhat of a musical lilt. She continued, in slightly stronger tones. "My last owner didn't call me anything, because I never had one before you. I wasn't a....slave." Her voice faltered a little, and she broke eye contact with him. "I'm not a slave," she added, so quietly that it could barely be heard. The last words seemed to be directed at herself more than him.

Naba was quite surprised. If the girl had not been a slave perhaps some of the story the auctioneer had told him was true. Maybe she really was a noblewoman. If she was noble and could act like one... Naba's mental abacus went to work as he contemplated an even better price for the girl. He might even be able to sell her to one of the minor rajahs east of the Indus river.

I'm not a slave... it was almost a whisper from her mouth.

"This is a most unfortunate situation." Naba saw a possible glimmer of hope in her eyes. He continued, to disavow her of any confusion.

"Whoever sold you to the slavers made a slave of you. Make no mistake. If you cannot accept that you will only suffer. You will have to learn how to be a slave."

Naba watched her expression change as he told her these things, wondering what she was thinking.

"I said it is an unfortunate situation because it means you have not been taught any of the love arts." Naba rocked back and forth on his heels. He would probably even have to teach her how to fuck enthusiastically. He would have to stretch her ass. She probably didn't even know how to use her mouth.

"Can you dance? Take off the cloak and show me."

A most unforunate situation. That was an understatement. Still, Claudia felt surprised and a little hopeful at these words. Maybe he was more sympathetic than she thought....maybe he'd help. The hope was crushed immediately as he continued to speak, talking of her becoming a slave. It was just as well. Not only had it seemed too good to be true, but there wasn't much in his power to help her anyways. And after all, why would he care where she came from? He had paid the a price for her just the same.

Love arts? Claudia repeated wildly to herself. What did he mean by love arts? Surely he couldn't be suggesting....he couldn't possibily be suggesting....

The man was saying something. All she had caught was "dance" and "take off the cloak". Some panic rose into her eyes. "Dance?" she repeated wildly. "Without a covering? Like a common whore?" She was obviously very distressed. It didn't seem to matter now that she had already been displayed nude in front of a crowd of people earlier that day. But before, she had had no choice in the act whereas now, he was asking - no, telling - her to shed his cloak and dance for him. The indignity of it all!

Claudia managed to get into a standing position and backed away from him. Instead of taking off the cloak, she pulled it yet tighter, as if it alone would save her from her peril. Even though she was retreating from him, she had not ran or tried to escape, though the idea passed through her mind more than once.

"Dance? ... Like a common whore?"

Naba sprang up after her and grabbed the front of the cloak in his fist, between her neck and where she had it clasped between her hands. The move effectively trapped her arms withing the cloak so she was more or less helpless unless she was willing to slip out of the cloak altogether. He slapped her face, not hard but no doubt stunning to the likes of a noblewoman... and so fast it happened almost before she could begin to react to his jumping up.

"You are no whore!!." Naba roared. He let her take that in. He shook her by his grip on the cloak as he raised his hand, ready to slap her again.

"Naba does not buy and sell whores! I train and deal only in the finest concubines available. My customers expect it." Naba didn't want his future customers to think he dealt in low women. Nor did he want to hear her imply it.

"Understand?" He shook her again.

"Understand?" Naba lowered his hand, then grabbed the cloak below her hands as well and lifted her bodily, using the cloak as if it were a sling. His muscles bulged but the strain of her weight did not show on his face.

He laid her on the ground, setting her down hard, pulled the cloak open and stripped it out from under her. She tried to hang onto it, got spun around before she lost her grip. Naba snapped the cloak out like a blanket or rug and let it settle to the ground.

"Now. Get up and dance or lie down and spread your legs. I don't care but you're going to show me somethng of value tonight, one way to the other!"

The man moved so fast that Claudia barely had time to register what happened before he sprang up, grabbed the cloak, and slapped her. She gasped, more in surprise than in pain, turning her face away from the impact of the blow. The auctioneer had hit her harder than this, but his actions had not shocked her as much. She hadn't anticipated this at all. The man had seemed quite calm a second ago, but his reaction was so violent - at least, to her standards.

She shook slightly when he yelled in her face. His words, however, were more unexpected than his actions or the strength of his tone. "You are no whore!" he'd said.
