sweetdreams
Sometimes it feels like you never left
I swear I hear your voice
I swear I feel your touch at night
I can feel your breath on my neck
Your legs entwined with mine
The rhythm of your heart beats fast
Pulsating through my spine.
I swear I still breathe you in
And try not to breathe you out
I feel the warmth of your skin
Your body twitches so slightly
Laying close to me
Sharing the same pillow
Our flesh keeps us warm at night
I fall asleep convinced that you’re here
I wake up screaming
Covered in sweat
My heart is pounding
Thinking you never left.
Then it hits me,
You are gone
and not coming back
So I breathe in deep
Lay back down and put my mind at rest
I can sleep peacefully now
I remember you finally left.

"I swear I still breathe you in
And try not to breathe you out"
very nice lines.
Interesting...I'm unclear whether it's someone missed or not: it seems at first like a lover that's left/died, but then wake up screaming thinking they're here, and rest when they know they've left?

Yea, I get why it is unclear, it is a lot of mixed emotions. Basically it is about my first love, but it was a really bad relationship with a lot of bad situations that I decided to blind myself from at the time. So I guess the poem is me saying how I miss the love and closeness I felt from the relationship but the person I was in love with scared the hell out of me and hurt me in ways that still haunt me.

Thank you violetgem, for sharing such a deep part of yourself. I liked this very much....and can understand the emotions, from my own perspective...

Very Well Done. I like this. There is more said here than the words would convey. I think it speaks to many of us who look back or a first love and wonder what it would have been like or miss those feelings.
