Growing up with the background you described, Mariko, it might very well be the case. If not physically, it could be a psychological mindset that makes you endure this longer just because you think it's 'your place' and what is expected of you being a woman. I think with growing up in Europe and Germany specifically, I'm a lot more 'selfish' (I also have my problems expressing myself in English, but I hope you get the message :)).
