Three Cheers for the new server and those who helped get us there!
Glad to see the Library up again, cheers all!
Good to see the library back up in the air.......thanks for all of the hard work!!!
.......A bigger server??............lmao.........servers that are submissive.........lol.......just struck me as funny.......
Ok Alll,
Tiger has completed about 90% +/- of re-doing the new server,, you should see Forums refreshing and reacting much better. There may be a few "restarts" but otherwise things are looking ALOT better !!!
Thanks to all for your patience.
GREAT JOB TIGER !!!!!!

The last few days since the place moved to a new server I've had lots of trouble getting in, for long stretches the site's been totally down and by the time you get in, pages will often load ultra-slowly. Hope this is just "children's diseases" with the new location.
sadly I am getting the same issues with logging in every morning. When it is noonish I can log on just fine but in the mornings I get timeouts. Strange things
umm.. the only way I can get here is by a proxy server, which doesn't allow java script, so no chat. been getting 'forum is closed sorry for the inconvenience' message since the weekend if I try and log in normally. Not moaning too much :) theres bound to be teething troubles, just letting you know about the problem.
Server upgrades are about 99% complete, a little tweaking left to go. If your still experiencing difficulties, try a few of the following.
1. Clear your internet cache/cookies files
2. If your running Windows XP or older make sure your "internet" files are set high approx 2500+
3. Make sure (if you use chat) that you have downloaded the latest version of Java, I beleive its 10.1 or 11 version
4. Make sure you log completely out of Forums on occassions this allows the site and your system to "refresh" / update.
5. If your computer is more than 5 years old OW,, time for an upgrade LOL, kidding.

PS THANKS again Tiger great upgrade, system seems to 'fly' alot better.
Hopefully all is well now,, please advise if your still having issues.
Also see thread, "New Server" for suggestions
Thanks

Just for the record I fixed my problem. Anyone who followed the advice in this post
As a workaround, I've added www.bdsmlibrary.com to my system's HOSTS file (a text file, /etc/hosts on Unix and Mac OS X systems, system32\drivers\etc\hosts in the Windows directory on Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista machines).
You should see lines like:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Add one for www.bdsmlibrary.com as follows:
208.53.170.232 www.bdsmlibrary.com
Now, your computer can bypass the buggy DNS servers and go directly to the bdsmlibrary server itself, without asking directions. (Downside: if the bdsmlibrary.com server ever moves, you'll need to update or delete that line so your browser finds the new location.)
to fix an earlier problem now needs to delete the line they added...
can't believe it took me so long to figure out lol.
Well, all right! Seems this move has been good for me, anyway. This past weekend, when you were apparently just switching over and still working out the bugs, there were some problems with time-outs, slow responses, dial-up speeds (and I mean ROTARY dial). Since Monday, though, things do seem much better. I haven't gotten a single one of those nasty "Cannot Find Server" notices that used to plague me, especially when I tried to post something to the forums.
Good job Torq and Tiger. This more than makes up for my (minor) disappointment in the new look.
Again it happened! An untold number of auto emails finally arrived after many, many attempts to log-in failed. Not once, but too many times has this same issue occurred. "Locked Out" seems to be the favorite expression of the robots at work. In fact, one of their so-called automated messages to me to reset my "forgotten"-NOT password even included a new password that failed, as well, leading once again to the "Locked Out" label! Per just_annie's suggestion to Thorne on this very same difficulty, i.e., to clear cookies, that also did not work. Who knows why a certain password finally did work???
Really!
Yes, like a plague...
FYI for Alll,
The password issue was and still is completely resolved approx. 6 weeks ago.
The Forum program was reset NOT to ask for a new password at any time.
IF you are stillhaving issues, please send me a PM or E-mail with specific details as to what is happening.
As alot have said clearing cookies, internet files, etc, does indeed help,, BUT keep in mind once you do that you MUST re-log in even if you checked the "remember me' box before.
In addition the new server is operating great, its capacity should hold us for quite awhile.
Issues of "getting kicked" is now 95% NOT the server. The server does "recycle" periodically and "weak" connections do drop, And "periodicially" is a rare occurance.
Thanks everyone for your patience and contributitions,
Be Well

Hi, I don't know if the move to the new forum had anything to do with this, or if there is a setting that needs to be adjusted, but, I used to receive e-mail notices of any private messages I got from friends, etc, via my e-mail address that the forum has. Although I know I have "Receive e-mail notices of private messages" checked in my profile, I don't seem to be receiving e-mails notifying me of my messages. If anyone has any idea of the reason for this, or any setting I could adjust to make this feature return, it would be appreciated. Thank you.
Mitch
Thanks for the reply, warbaby. Actually, before the forum reconstruction, I used to receive e-mails notification from the forum. I still get e-mail notification currently from other forums I belong to, so I dont know what the deal is.
Mitch
I still receive email notifications and haven't had a problem since the changes here.
So the new Thanks feature is cool, but how can I find out which posts of mine were tagged with a Thank you? I see that I have some...but how do I tell which?
Just curious! Ummmmmmh Did curiosity kill the cat or get the pussy beaten?:span:
Nevermind..figured it out! but the other question still stands...
Just wondering if work was still going on with the new server as it seems to be slowing down every now and again. It's been fine for the last 30 minutes or so and then it ground to a halt, wouldn't let me post anything - and I couldn't log on again when I closed the program and tried to access it again.
Anybody else having the sdame things happening?
Thats odd. I wonder why my e-mail notices arent coming. I wonder if I can change my e-mail addy without forum interruption.
Mitch
Thanks for the reply. I have Comcast high speed, and what perplexes me is before the forum change, I always got my e-mails, now, I don't receive any at all.
Thanks again,
Mitch
I'm getting email notifications of pm's but all out of order and sometimes a long time after they've been received at the forums.
I've been having that for the last few months, so I don't think it's a new server thing. I've often had emails about a PM 5 minutes after I've read the message.
go pick up a free e-mail account, like Hotmail or Yahoo, change your e-mail address on here to the new e-mail account, I have never had a problem getting e-mail from the forum through Hotmail
Having solved-at least for the time being, the issue of log-ins, I now find that any attempts to access profiles during chat all seem to end up with members' buddy lists, ( rather than their profile info).
Any answers to this would be highly appreciated.
Faibhar
When you access the profiles, it is set on the buddy list - but you need to click on the 'about me' tab and it'll bring up their profile
Thank you Tufty for your hint.

How can I delete visitor messages? I know there's the 'delete' option but it leaves a 'Message deleted' message. I can't turn the radio button off to permanently delete messages.
Is there any way of doing it?
im not admin so i cant really help ya there but *sniffles* why would you want to delete messages? especially mine! giggles
Looks to me like you put a check in the box in the upper right hand corner then go to the bottom and click on delete messages.
No, the trouble is that move only "soft deletes" the message and it'll turn out the way Tufty put it: there is a "trace" showing what was recently there. I had the same problem when I was on staff and would do some trial posts at a staff-only Forum to prepare what would come out in the Hall of Fame (because fixing anything once you'd posted the real thing in HF could be tricky). Those "pre-posts" and try-out posts were meant to be scrapped afterwards, but I could only soft delete them, had to ask cariad to do the permanent deletion.
Hello tufty.
I tried for you, but as a Moderator we can only do 'soft' deletes. I suspect Admin can remove them fully, but I am not 100% sure.
"'Soft' delete - Leave "Deleted" Message"
with love,
angel.
OK folks tried to set it to allow all to "hard" delete your messages answer is NO !!
It's set up that way in program for reasons,,,, IF anyone wishes to completely "hard" delete any messages it will be necessary to PM an Admin to have them removed, otherwise soft delete only.
Thanks for your patience

does anyone know how to edit list of interests and stuff?
Yep. Lot's of people know how.
Oh! You want to actually know how. ;)
Go to the User CP (in the menu, top left, next to Chat)
There's a menu down the left side and you can change almost anything from there.
You can even change your name and not lose your other info, posts, etc., just PM an administrator.
