Functions of Bondage

I recently talked with someone about bondage and he was surprised I considered it 'helpful for keeping a position'. He told me that it could force someone in a position but that was usually not meant to be helpful so I thought I should share this with everyone:


In certain situations I consider my dominant helpful if he restrains me... If I have to take a punishment it can help me keep position, if my arms are tied behind my back my breasts will be shown more prominently, a position that gets easy to forget sometimes, espescially if you are exited. Also in some positions it can take the strain of your muscles if you relax into it..
I think it depends on the intention of the dominant if you are forced into a position or helped to keep it up even if you forget/strain..
Also sometimes it can help me to reach subspace. That always works faster for me in restraints (wired that way ;-))

But of course bondage can be used to force someone into a position, it can be used to restrict movement, to remind someone of their position, it can be decorative, arousing, used for creating a predicament for the sub and many more.

What are your thoughts on this?

Bondage bypasses the scenic route to subspace for me. It is a straight path from the first slip of the rope around my body to starting to feel 'floaty'.

I read a Dominant's explanation of this recently. This Dom is Someone I respect a lot and is very experienced.

He wrote that bondage; restraints, rope, leather or cuffs, puts pressure on the limbs.
This pressure is percieved by the brain and endorphines gets dispatched. The tighter and the longer the bondage, the more lovely hormones gets released.

This also happens when kneeling.
No surpise that I love kneeling also.

Being restrained also works with my mind... I always say bondage 'ties up' my mind also. It focusses me on my Dominant.

Sighs...the bite of the rope...being bound in humiliating and often painful ways...so vulnerable...ummmhummm.

Its no surprise being properly bound enhances the experience, as said above...the body as a whole works best when physical and mental aspects are in balance so to speak.

How many people who think its all about the mental get to experience holding position when they get a muscle cramp while bound. The intense pain the unavoidable anguish the sweating and twisting in one's bonds to try to alleviate it, the eventual surrender to it and acceptance that your not getting free, you must ride the cramp out...the feeling of triumph and relief when the cramp subsides.

While bondage is a powerful experience for many, I would hesitate to proclaim it as a no-fail dispatcher of endorphins, same with kneeling.

They originate in various parts of your body -- the pituitary gland, your spinal cord and throughout other parts of your brain and nervous system -- and interact mainly with receptors in cells found in regions of the brain responsible for blocking pain and controlling emotion."

Not to be a wet blanket or anything, just to say that different people react differently - not too much is known about how it works in humans - so I'd say keep an open mind and see what it does for you/to you, but do not expect other people's experiences to be the same for you, whether good or bad.

Another thing about bondage is that as it does in fact make you helpless, you may have unexpected reactions of panic or fear, which is not to say that it would not eventually work well. This can happen even if you trust the Dom/me absolutely. Just that again, it is different for different people.

Ehm, not to be a wet blanket here, but people react differently to all things, including bondage..
