    I have a little problem :s

    Where do I start??????

I have a little (well BIG) problem with MSN messenger live.

For the last 6-7 weeks now messenger live has been messing around. From Mon-Thurs inc and between the hours of 8pm - 10pm it has been disconnecting and reconnecting every 4 minutes. Until last week.
Where it started disconnecting and reconnecting early and finishing at 11pm.
Also it happened over the weekend...started at 1.45pm and finishing at 11pm.
Before you guys say anything, I have tried everything from totally uninstalling it and reinstalling it......going back to an earlier version of messenger....disabling windows messenger...to system restore...to even contacting microsoft themselves.

Hell I even spent most of last week backing up everything onto disc...and then i REFORMATTED the blasted pc on sat.
But........even the reformatting has not solved the problem

Its not my server or modem like some people have suggested.

Oh I also hasten to add that while all this is happening with messenger... I cant access any Java based programmes like chat or yahoo games. So i even uninstalled java (before u lot ask) but nope.....with no java msn is still messing about.

    It is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Driving US nuts!!!!

Does anyone else have any ideas or clues as to why I have this problem with windows messenger live????
The version I am running is the latest one...8.1.

    ceegee

ps: during this time i can access any web site...download and upload everything .......even access yahoo messenger and others that I have

*makes Twilight Zone sounds* That's just weird! I have no idea, but VoodooMan wants me to start using Skype.

Try using windows messenger, it comes pre-installed with Windows XP. Also, there are a variety of programs to allows for logins to multiple IMs (yahoo, google, msn). The one that I have seen used it trillian messenger (just google that, and go to the first hit).
Sometimes, even the most insignificant thing might be causing you to disconnect. You're anti-virus may have had an update that just conflicts with some software. (TRY THIS WITHOUT WEB SURFING) disable your anti-virus software, and log on to msn, see if you are getting disconnected. If not, that was probably your problem, and see if your anti-virus software has some constant screening for IM software, or better yet, switch to symantec v10 if you can somehow get your hands on that. From experience, it is the fastest and most efficient protection available for your computer.

Also, check your firewall, if you are on XP, and using your Windows default firewall, block msn, restart your computer, and try signing in, when prompted about the firewall, allow it to permit msn.
If you are using some software for firewall, try disabling it and seeing what happens.

    Hope this helps.

tried all that even after i reinstalled msn after i reformatted. it was still disconnecting and reconnecting...with no firewalls and anti virus software.

everything has been set to allow msn...skype and YIM.
I even disabled windows messenger on start up cos that can cause a conflict with msn messenger. then i tried windows messenger before installing msn messenger and the same was happening.

my anti virus is set on constant scanning on all messsngers.

I had hoped that the reformat would solve the problem but it hasnt...so now i am trying to put stuff back that i had saved onto disc....sighz
music...pictures...program files...web building stuff etc etc
damn my program files thingy looks empty.

Your anti-virus is on constant scan. What anti-virus program do you use? Have you tried a different one?

Check your ISP and just let them know, they might have some suggestions.

If nothing else, switch to Apple or Linux

    Hi cg,

Thank you for contacting Windows Live Messenger Technical Support. My name is Jordan and I will be glad to assist you with your concern.

Based on the information that I received, I understand that you are frequently being disconnected to Windows Live Messenger. You tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Messenger to solve that issue but it still persist. So you then tried to reformat your computer but you are still encountering this issue. I can imagine the inconvenience this issue is causing you but please rests assure that I would try to do my best to help you resolve this concern.

cg, looks like your Microsoft .net Service is experiencing service or maintenance issues that is why you are frequently disconnecting to Windows Live Messenger. Other probable causes that may affect frequent disconnection are as follow:

    - The settings on your corporate network or Internet service provider (ISP) have timed out.

    - The router firmware is out of date.

Here are the steps for eliminating all the probable causes mentioned:

    1. To determine the .NET Messenger Service status, visit http://messenger.msn.com/Status.aspx.

    2. Determine what version of Messenger is installed on your computer, and upgrade if it is required. To determine the latest version and download information, visit the following Web site: http://spaces.msn.com/messenger-supp...53F!3772.entry

    3. If you are using a third-party firewall, temporarily disable the firewall or reset the firewall configuration for Messenger to Permit All or to Allow type.

    4. If you are using a router, make sure that you have the latest firmware from the router manufacturer. Try to connect the computer to your Internet connection instead of through the router and verify.

    5. If you are on a corporate network, and you are being disconnected from Messenger, the connection settings may time out. Ask the system administrator to adjust the corporate Internet sharing solution or the corporate firewall.

cg, let us also try to refresh your storage account information or cache for Windows Live Messenger. Please try to follow the steps below:

    1. Change the Windows Explorer settings. Windows XP

    a. Right-click Start, and then click Explore to open Windows Explorer.

    b. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

    c. Click the View tab.

    d. In the Advanced settings list, select Show hidden files and folders under Hidden Files and Folders.

    e. Click to clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box .

    f. Click OK to close the Folder Options window.

    2. Delete the Contacts Cache folder. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. Right-click Start, and then click Explore to open the Windows Explorer window.

    b. In the Windows Explorer window, locate the folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows logon name\Contacts\Your Messenger e-mail address

Note Windows Logon name is the logon name that you use to sign in to windows. Your Messenger email address is the address that you use to sign in to Messenger.

    c. Delete all the files that are in the Your Messenger email address folder.

    d. Right-click Start, and then click Explore to open the Windows Explorer window.

    e. In the Windows Explorer window, locate the folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows logon name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Your Messenger email address

Note Windows Logon name is the logon name that you use to sign in to windows. Your Messenger email address is the address that you use to sign in to Messenger.

    3. Delete the real and the shadow folders that are in the Your Messenger email address folder

    4. Try to sign in to Messenger again.

ccg, lastly if you have an anti-spyware, please try to let it detect spyware on your computer. If you don’t have yet please try to download Windows Defender on this link http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...r/default.mspx and install it and run.

I hope these steps will resolve your issue with Windows Live Messenger. Should there be any questions, please feel free to send an e-mail to us and we will be more than happy to be of assistance.
