    John Norman

I just recently became aware of John Norman's Gor-stories. Actually this happened by the link redEva VERY kindly supplies on her posts. Thank you, redEva

The link leads to a website with several of John Norman's novels (though I can't really tell if they are complete). I've enjoyed these stories tremendously and would like to read on, preferably without spending too much money. This is where the "poor-student" clichee kicks in! In time I'm going to buy these, but just can't afford it right now...

Anyway, my question is, wether anybody knows of another websites with John Norman's novels??

    Ebay

Look in Ebay under Books: Used and Out of Print. Type in John Norman or Gor as your search.

Expect to pay anywhere from $5 US to $50 or more US for each book, depending on the rarity, printing edition and condition of each book.

There are 25 books in all. The first five don't really have much to do with slaves and such.

Please, for the love of all that's holy, don't read them like they're supposed to be BDSM bibles.

    Duetta,

you most welcome, but that site has all 25 books - only one that is missing is the newest one (26th) and good luck with finding that one - limited edition

To the best of my knowledge - the books are complete - but i think TG would be more qualified to speak about that.

and ... yes, they are great books and nice fantasy - but they are NOT BDSM manual

    Glad you enjoying them.

I remember when those books were in all the bookshops in the late 80s, now you never see them outside a second-hand shop, are they out of print or considered to unsavoury for these conservative times?

out of print ... i wonder why could it have anything to do with the topic?

They are both out of print and considered unsavoury for these conservative times.

Well, actually, not these conservative times, but in the 90s, they came under heavy fire for their misogynistic views, portrayals of female slavery and for the idea that basically the only thing women were good for was being naked and serving men. You know? All the stuff I always thought was just normal.

Norman actually attempted to make a comeback and do another SF/fantasy series in 1996 (I think, it might have been 94). He published one book in the series, promising more, and then was never heard from again. The rumor mill had it that because of pressure from women's groups and certain "charitible" organizations, he was blacklisted from writing another book.

And he has not been heard from since.

You mean they were good for some thing other than being naked and serving men.

    Just Joking Ladies.

Well you would think that Gordbooks would let him write. There little books are selling for 21.95 a book. And the women in those books are used for alot of things other than being naked and serving men. Furniture Power generators warp cores for star ships etc. The power of the female orgasm is amazing.

I didn't realize that the website in question contained all of Norman's works. Too bad... When I find something good, I just want to keep reading.

I'll check it out, hopefully I'll get lucky.

The very first novel with BDSM I read at the age of 15 was Story of O. I absolutely loved it!! Unfortunately it went missing from my local library (imagine that ) and I haven't read it since. It seems that the Danish libraries are not too keen on rebuying this kind of books *sigh*

John Norman - the Gor books

If your not that bothered about reading John Norman's books in any format, try ebooks from www.fictionwise.com. It has most of the series in Microsoft reader and a few other fromats.

Anyway worth a try, as there about $7-8 each, far removed from the $50 or so dollars for paperback copies.

It's a Yahoo sponsored Geocities site, so it only allows so much data tranfer a day before the site becomes unusable. Try again tomorrow.

Starting from book one is usually best. You can really see how the series devolves from being a good piece of futuristic sci-fi to a nearly primitive culture with no technology at all.

The further into the series you get, the more you start to realize that Norman lost his focus on the whole thing, I think.

I assume you don't have a PDA, I find that these are ideal for big e-books and stories. I've probably saved at least £50 in paper from not printing out all the e-books/stories I've read.

ALways wanted one for that very reson. But the beginging price for a good Windows CE version arouind here is about 499. One with a good screen and enough memory to hold a 143k story or two. That is about 399 above what I can spend at any given time with my budget at the moment.

So alas it will be a dream unfofilled along with the touring the states with a Honda Goldwing, Owning a House, Getting a New Dog etc etc.

I have a palm Tungsten E which is way more powerful than I actually need for what I use it for. You can get Palms pretty cheap if you are going to use them as diary/address book/reading/pictures/gameboy emulator..etc.. you only pay through the nose for the bluetooth/fast processing/video/posh screen/massive memory which I personally don't need. I paid £120 for mine, that's about $190 I suppose, but like I say, there's more spec than I need on that.

Stop shopping in retail stores. You can get a PDA from Dell for about $250 and probably pay it off in monthly payments.

..and owning your own dungeon full of sex slaves?
    Okay. Joking aside, Mobius:
Go to eBay. Enter item number 5732321931. It's a Sharp PDA, warranty, software, USB cable, and stylus all included. The PDA has 8MB in it. And its starting bid is $1.00, shipping $15. It's on a 9 day listing, so hurry on over. I was actually looking at this for myself, but the kids need stuff, Hubby needs stuff, I can't afford it right now. You might be able to, though. Tell the parental unit that it's your own Christmas gift to yourself!!

Thanks for the tip. But allas I fear it is not fancy enough. Unfortunatly I was born with a curse. I am a "gadgit aholic" For me to buy some thing it has to have all the wisles and bells. If some thing is mearly servicable and will do what is is entended to do. Then I will not be attractid to it. It is kind of the Girl always being atracted to the "Bad Boy" thing .

The palm or windows CE (pocket pc) device I am looking at will play vids display text storys play mp3 and connect to the internet wirelessly.

I figure the budget for that is in the 4 -5 houndred dollar range and it is out of my budget. But the buety of being attracted to the bleading edge of tech.
The droppings are usaly allot cheaper. So you just have to wait a little longer.

The last PC I bougt was pretty good for its time. AMD duron 751 It has been running stable since 1998 with little or no problems. I waited until oct 2004 and parted out a home built PC with last years tech for the cost of 1/2 the price of the last pc.

    It is a pentium 4 3.0 gh
    512mb ddr ram
a little over 500gbs of storage
DVDr RW and all that stuff
    19" monitor
    and a good vid card
for a little over 300 bucks

Now that I have the memory issue ironed out it has been running stable to.

Infact it is so good that it has become boring and lost allot of what attracted me to it.

I'm one of those horrible blasphemers who thinks the Gor books are fairly silly. I only ever bothered picking up two from the local secondhand bookstore, and I picked both of them based on how cheesy the cover art sounded.

So naturally I wound up the proud owner of Kajira and Fighting Slave, and they've both got a special place on my bookshelf forever
