    Question Nature vs Nurture

Have Y/you ever wondered why O/others, (or Y/you) might be Dominant or submissive?
Vanilla: 'So, why are you Dominant/submissive?'

    Usual answers:
    1. 'Oh, I didn't choose this path. I was just born Dominant/submissive.' (Predetermined)
    2. It is my star sign. It possesses a Dominant/submissive trait, that enables M/me to Dominate/ be submissive to O/others.
    3. I was brought up with Dominant/submissive parent(s). Therefore, T/they passed down T/their genes to M/me.
    4. I don't know. I just figured i'd give it a try..
    5. I woke up one day in a 'Spank me' or 'I feel like spanking' mood.

    What is Y/your view?

Do Y/your parents or astrological signs contribute to your Dominant/submissive nature?
Or are Y/you simply born into a Dominant/submissive state of mind.

Maybe all this is just nonsense, and Y/you choose the path Y/you want; merely due to Y/your likes, dislikes, curiosity and experiences.

I think trying to categorize it as one or the other us where we fail. Both nature and nurture have an impact on your personality as a whole.

I was born liking pain and with thought processes that would lead me to being sub, but my experiences have refined those rough ideas. Some are born exactly what they will always be, some have no idea until much later in life.

    There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, any more than there's a one-size-fits-all kink.

I think that the nature vs. nuture argument is one that may never be resolved, despite the best efforts of sociologists and psychiatrists over many years. Personally, I think that there is a fundamental part of us that leans one way or another. I can remember one of my earliest "bdsm" experiences was playing a game with an older friend and having to strip naked as a forfeit when I lost. I distinctly recall my sense of excitement at the vulnerability and humiliation I suffered, and looking back now after many years I can definitely see my submissive nature in that younger version of me.

This was all long before I had any real interest in sex, and certainly before I knew of the existence of anything like BDSM.
This theme would continue into my teenage years, with lots of solo play and one relationship with a male friend that involved me playing the part of a submissive sexual victim. Even when I began regular dating and relationships with girls, this side of my personality always lurked in the background, kept very secret, but it had been present for a long, long time, and remains to this day.
