Since they are not their master it would be inappropriate to address the as such.
Well i thought that, i myself don't do it. Though it seems the done thing i was just wondering if it was just me being awkward :D
I wouldn't address another Dom as Sir. For me that is a very special name for my Dom and I'm only submissive to him.
I calls 'em hows i sees 'em...that is to say, by the persons name unless instructed by my Master to use a formal title. online it tends to be the persons username unless i know their real name.
Good points all. IMO:
It's different strokes for different folks.
If they are not your master, miss, dom/me, then don't feel required to use that title if it's not part of their handle (username).
Some of the doms online have earned my respect and I will call them Sir or your lordship, but it's more for fun and to honor them. Note: they are not my master. They've not asked me to use those titles.
I may be Miss to my Nathaniel, and pet to T, but to the forums, I'm just Ruby in casual conversation.
In the Lord Mobius's dungeon, that's altogether different, cause we are keeping the continuity of a storyline going.
Please note: I have spoken to a number of subs who have been told by their masters/dom/mes to always use the former title for another master/dom/mes unless specifically requested not to by that person.
So, while someone else may not be using titles, others will continue to do so.
I personally don’t use titles to other Dom/me when I address them. They are not my Dominant. I would say Sir Chuck to chksng19, but that is done in tongue in cheek, not because he is my Dom, because he isn‘t ;)
I don’t even call my own Dom/husband Sir. I did once, and we both laughed, because it was just silly to us. But that’s just us. I mean no disrespect to those who do. I have been Doc's wife, and mother to his children, a lot longer, than we have been involved in the BDSM world.
Something similar happened to me, my Master wanted me to speak in third person...how very Gorean  I was like Noooooooo.Quote:

Great comments everybody thanks for replying so soon!
I, too, have seen some subs who seem to prefer to address everyone else as Sir or Ma'am, and I have seen contracts that instruct subs to address strangers as Sir or Ma'am. I suppose it's just to reinforce their humility, not necessarily to offer themselves to everyone they bump in to.
I know that for some people, even the very generic term "Sir" can hold a lot of meaning. But remember that not so long ago, it was standard etiquette to address strangers as Sir or Ma'am or Miss! So maybe subs are just a very polite bunch. :p
I grew up with a very posh, well-off grandmother and was dragged to expenisive balls in high-heels and ballgowns (it stops being fun after the first 20 parties) as an 8 year old until recently.Quote:

LOL, some places, such as the American South, it has become a habitual sign of respect for strangers to say Sir/ Ma'am.
I recall being in South Carolina 2 years ago, a farmhouse belonging to an elderly, black friend of mine. The young, very white repairman (plumber) came in to fix something, and continually deferred to my black friend as Ma'am in a truly respectful, deferencial tone.
Like the saying goes: We've come a long way, baby!!
I decide but I can tell you, it's definitely not Master!
I reserve the formal adress of Master for my Master, but I am have been instructed to be respectfull of ppl and use the generic Sir / Ma'am titles for all others. it is also a lot easser to type Sir then to type out the full name of the person.
Right, the point of my little story was, there is nothing wrong with being respectful towards a stranger, or friend either, for that matter, by saying Sir/Ma'am. Anything else, IMO, would be totally out of place.
Southerner here!! So for me...alot of the time I am being polite...however as Ruby stated...some Dom's have earned my respect, like Sir Chuck....he will always be Sir Chuck! :) Although on occasion when we are just talking about life in general...I just use Chuck. So I guess it depends on the conversation, as well as at times I am just being polite! Your right Kats! Us Southerners do that alot! It seems that Kaori-san does the same in England tho...so who knows...maybe subs are just polite!
Guess I'm a true redneck cause in conversation I usually just address everyone as 'Darlin'. -grin
Well come to think of it Alura...I do that with Hunter, and he's a Dom...guess it just depends on the Dom and my mood...either that or I'll have to join your club! :DQuote:

I accept it as a sign of respect when it is offered.
